It has been 8 weeks since I lost my daughter. I stopped bleeding from the delivery at about 4 1/2 weeks. Then my period started on Jan 25th. I thought it had ended about a week and a half later, but I am still sporadically bleeding. I am also having some wicked cramping on and off. I am fairly certain I don't have an infection I don't have a fever or sever uterine tenderness. What could this be? Is it normal to have spotting during the first few cycles after a loss or should I be concerned?

Oh no! I don't have an answer for you but I think you should call your medical provider. I hope you get an answer soon. Take care of yourself.

I agree you might try contacting your healthcare provider.

i don't remember if you had a natural m/c or a d&c, but if you had the former you might still be getting rid of some retained material. i know the first two or three cycles after my natural m/cs were more tender and harsh... more crampy, clotty, and painful.
i'm sure my mental attitude of sadness and grief didn't help things, either.
if you feel like something is not right, though, you should definitely contact your caregiver. if the things that normally give you relief during a hard period don't help, maybe they can offer some other ideas.
good luck and let us know how you're doing!

Well I am still bleeding some. It is strange because One day I won't bleed at all and then the next day I will start bleeding again. I called the ob/gyn practice I use yesterday and left a message, but I haven't heard back yet. I am going to call again tommorow if I haven't heard anything before then. I don't know whether I should be worried about this or not.

Shannon, I've had similiar experiences since my m/c last fall. It took 7 weeks to get my first period and I bled for nine days. My second cycle was 4 weeks later (which I was thrilled about!) but then the bleeding lasted a full two weeks (though some days were very sporadic). Just when I was sure it was gone, I'd see more blood. I called my midwife last week on day 11 and she said sometimes it just takes a while for our bodies to "reset" themselves. She wasn't overly concerned since I wasn't feeling sick or feverish (though I did experience more cramping that usual.) So, that's my guess with what's happening with you -- your body is just taking awhile to regulate itself. I know how frustrating it is wanting normal cylces back (especially if you want to tcc again asap!)
Just be good to yourself, take it easy, and try to be patient with your body (that's what I'm telling myself everyday!).
My thoughts are with you,
Kate

I bled for 12 weeks after my miscarriage last year. I called my health care provider and we did an internal ultrasound. It seems as though I had a uterine cyst that was bleeding - somehow it got activated during my miscarriage (I did not have a d&c). I had the cyst removed with surgery. I was also prescribed a drug given to women with heavy periods - that slowed/stopped the bleeding until I had the surgery.
Hugs to you, mama. It was hard for me to deal with so much bleeding for so long after my miscarriage. I kept thinking it would stop, and then it didn't stop, and I was frustrated and upset.

Well I spoke with one of the nurses at the Drs office. She said that I shouldn't worry about it yet. She did say if I was still bleeding by the end of the month, and hadn't had a second period I needed to come in and get checked out. The bleeding seems alot lighter now so hopefully things will even out soon. i am hoping my cycles will go back to their normal 28 days soon. Thank you for all of the suggestions on what it might be. For now I am just hoping that it is just my bodies way of trying to cleanse itself.
Thank you
