Hi,
I've been posting a little bit lately without formally introducing myself. My name is Leah, I live in Melbourne and have a 10mo daughter. We are pretty "by the book", (no not Babywise) and it works great for us, breastfeeding, slinging, co-sleeping, and other alternative like things such as not vaxing, cloth nappies and as much organic food as possible.
I'm also part of a excellent group named MAAP, which is the Melbourne Alternative and Attachment Parenting group. We speak online a little but have a great playgroup in Richmond and are starting up local groups in various other suburbs shortly. The details can be found at http://maap.alternativebaby.net . If you click on the discussions link you will see a picture of my bub feeding in the sling :) Noone will look at you like you've got two heads for any of the weird and wonderful things often mentioned here . Would love to meet other Melbourne Mothering Mums :)(mods, i looked to see if it was ok to post a link to a non mothering site, I assume it is because I can't see otherwise. Please delete this paragraph if i've gaffed)
I love these forums! Though the cloth diaper ones makes me a bit jealous, trying not to be too materialistic when I check them out, cause I waaaaaaaant them. Have to tell myself we're doing fine in our odd collection of this and that. That's my only complaint ;)
Cheers,
Leah

Hi Leah ~ Think I know you from somewhere ;) :hippie
(I love that hippie smiley!)
Following Leah's lead, I thought I'd register an introduce myself too, as I've been lurking for a while. I'm Jayne, WAHM to Liam. We also live in Melbourne, Australia, and attend the same AP support group :) I have my own home based business making baby slings, and I run a parenting site. I'm also a student (studying Professional Writing and Editing)
I'm a passionate advocate of Attachment Parenting, and also try to incorporate other philosophies into my parenting, such as The Continuum Concept, Non Coercive parenting, and treating children with respect, nuture and dignity. I'm also a proud "lactavist" (my almost three y.o still loves his boobie :D ) and am vehemently opposed to any form of CIO, or sleep "training" scheduled feeding, Ezzo etc:splat
Finally, I just wanted to say this is a wonderful place, and any Melbourne mums from here are very welcome at our play/support groups :)
cheers

I'm definitely going to be in touch when we get back to Melbourne Leah...I'm totally nervous about being treated as though I have two heads. I know I'll cop some flack from my in laws about the co sleeping, and probably the fact that I'm still breastfeeding too...so anyway, can't wait to meet some like minded mummies...or at least non judgemental ones (we don't need to think the same, just respect one another!)
I'm known here as Frances but just to be confusing I'll be Rachael IRL!
When does the Richmond playgroup meet up? Is it a regular thing?

Hi cinna-mum, do I reocgnise you now?? Did you make your way over to Alternative Baby?? :)
Rachael/Frances, look forward to seeing you :) Peers who do the same stuff really helps innoculate you somewhat from a lot of the crappyola you encounter I've found :)

Thanks for posting the MAAP site address. Although we don't live in Melb at this time (we're in North America in fact :( ), my husband is a Melbourne native who proudly slings and cosleeps with our lovely daughter. His only problem with AP is that it has a name-he just calls it "doing the right thing and loving our daughter" :wink
Anyhow, we hope to move to Melb permanently in a few years (rather raise our kids there than here), so it is great to know that there is support for attachment parenting there when we make the move.
