I was confused at first and thought I may have gone to the wrong forum.

But one extra click is not a problem. And it just may stear me toward a new dipe I just have to try.

Not sure I like the extra click or extra temptation either! This place is bad enough! :LOL

I think the only thing I don't like is that if I click diapering from a post within diapering, I get taken to that page. It's annoying, but those mama's are gonna get a lot of advertising :LOL

I might be simple but...

I like the pretty colors. :D

Yeah, the extra click is a little anoying! But the colors ARE pretty!

I really like the colors and set up. The only thing I didn't like was how when I read a post, then click on diapering to go back to the main diapering page, I get that page again and have to click on "click here" again. But, I could get used to it, and when I see wahms up there, I will enjoy it better.

I did click on "Advertise Here" and it took me to the same page.... opened it up in another window, but it was still the same page. I'll bet they are still setting it up.

Anyway.... I like it! If it wasn't set up so nice with such pretty spring colors, the extra click would bother me. I am all about eye candy.

OK, I thought that it was *OK* this morning, but now I am getting irritated at having to go through the front page EVERY time I go to the diaper forum!!!

I had the same reaction to it as I have when I have to watch ads before a movie.

Not one for commercials here either.. I think the banner ads are enough... maybe those little square ones in the corner of pages would be sufficient, but I bop around to lots of forums and one more click full of 'spam' kinda bugs me.

This is really annoying -- to have to go through that page every time you are trying to get back to the index page when you're already here, but I bet that could be fixed to just go back to the index.

Otherwise I'm just hoping for some kool deals, which I really need.

I use my bookmard and it doesn't take me to that page. Also, when I click on the forum jump at the bottom it doesn't take me there either.

I didn't even see it till you said it!

I'm not too fond of it actually only because everytime I go to the diapering board I have to go around it and I have a slow connection. I guess its good cause it helps limit my computer time but for me I don't care for it. I prefer the banner ads at the top.

feebeeglee
03-01-2004, 01:37 PM
I predict it is largely ignored.... click-thru rates will out the truth as to whether it is effective at all.

I don't care for it either... I'd prefer to see the little banners next to the big one on top. I guess this will be diapering-specific ads. I wonder if they are going to do this on other forums too?

This morning it wasn't so bad, but now it's starting to bug me. If it didn't take us to that page every time we hit "Diapering", it wouldn't be so bad, but the extra click every time is really getting annoying. I do love that this community supports wahms, but this page should be seperate IMO and not "forced" on us so to speak.

Cassandra M.
03-01-2004, 01:46 PM
I agree...it feels much like a pop up and my gut reaction is to get it off the screen ASAP.

chellemarie
03-01-2004, 01:47 PM
It should be a cookied thing. "Click here to go to the Diapering Forum and skip this page." Or something like that.

But I totally dig the colors. I'm going to look at it again! Oooh. Pretty.

add another one to the "hate it" category.

I guess one time through would be tolerable. I assume this is a way for mothering to offset the cost of these boards by increasing advertising revenue, so I understand their urge to do this, but there has got to be a better way. Having to click through it every time I want to go to the index, however, is ultra-annoying.

JennInSeattle

Not enjoying it either because I push "diapering" often when I'm done reading a thread but don't respond and I keep getting that page!

Jennifer Z
03-01-2004, 02:54 PM
:bang :bang :bang

ok, I understand the concept and why it is there, but now I have to remember to navigate the site differently because the way I jump back to the diapering page when I am done reading a thread is to hit the "Diapering" button above the threads so it reloads the current diapering page. I have seen that #$(*&^! page 4 times and have been on the site less than 5 minutes. grrrrrrrr.

I hope I can retrain my fingers soon, because I am to the point now that I am just ready to go to a different forum to avoid the frustration.:splat

You can bookmark the diapering page and just navigate that way instead of clicking the "diapering" link.

Is there anyway that link could be fixed to go straight back to the actual forum since a person that is allready in here has obviously been through the ads?

4boybarians
03-01-2004, 03:48 PM
I do have the diapering page bookmarked, but I still just click on "Diapering" at the top a lot of times.

:bang And if I see that page about one more time today, I'm gonna throw something.

Uh oh. I just signed up for advertising on it but if everyone hates it that bad then I dont want to be hated too. Maybe I should ask for my money back.

Retrain your fingers to go down instead of up... click "Go" on the View Forums menu, it'll shootcha back to Diapering with no frontpage :D

4boybarians
03-01-2004, 03:58 PM
Honestly, though, what's the point if we're all already trying to figure out ways to avoid that page?

cortsmommy - I'd never hold it against the people who advertised there. :D

03-01-2004, 04:00 PM
thanks fee! i didnt know that was down there :LOL

the point? hmm well newbies to the diapering forum would still hit it beforeing coming to the forum.... AND everyone who lists there HAS to have a special just for MDC mamas....so its a neat way for mamas who want to shop to know where to start :)

Thank you feebee, I never really noticed that before...much better than the "back" button on my browser!

Maybe if the button to the forum was bigger it wouldn't be so hard to get used to. As is, I have to really squint to see it. My eyesight is going maybe.

I like it.

What if I promise to put a REALLY great special that is only available to you MDC mamas....would that change your distaste for it????

Nada, crazy?

03-02-2004, 12:23 AM
OK add me to the list of mamas it's driving nuts. :splat I also hit Diapering to go back to the Forum after reading a thread and I HATE having to click through one more time. ITA with the poster who suggested it should be a cookied thing so that you get it only once every session. And then maybe a banner or something on all the pages that you can click to go back to it anytime you want.

But PUHLEEZE, not everytime I hit Diapering !!!

Be sure that your feelings will be seen and considered by Heather and Cynthia.

Heather made it so purty, by the way. :) Doesn't she have a flair?

We are working on the code for it so I've taken it down for now. My apologies to those of you who find it very irritating. :(

We are simply trying to create revenue to help us pay for the very expensive hosting fees we have now among the other monthly operating expenses. A bunch of small banners up top is not a viable solution. We want to limit further advertising to specific forums according to product interest.

When we do return the page if you don't want to click through it I suggest you keep the Diapering threads home page open in one window and right click on threads to read them in another.

I just wanted to add that the response to this new advertising opportunity has been tremendous. We are already taking placements for the waiting list three months from now.

This new advertising page provides exposure that is very valuable to our MDC WAHM mamas and not only are we glad to offer that to them we are thankful for the revenue it will create to support MDC and keep it running.

If you do have suggestions for or complaints about things of this nature please direct them to my attention by PM or email or post them to the Questions and Suggestions board. Thanks so much!

~Cynthia

Well, as a consumer who spends many nursing moments on mdc now, I have to say that you guys did a wonderful job on that page! The colors are very appealing, and the idea is too.

I can't wait to see who advertises on there, and I am always a sucker for a special. :love

I'm also happy that there is a way to support this community. I guess one way we could look at it... instead of being frustrated at an extra click (cup half empty) we can appreciate the efforts to keep this board up and running so that we can all participate in this community. (cup half full)

Thank you guys. :thumb

I am waiting with paypal for some good deals!

Moving to Questions and Suggestions. Thank you for the input ... we do appreciate the feedback.

Many come through to Diapering through subscribed threads received in their email inbox and do not go in and out of Diapering in the same manner. Forum Jumps, Searches, View New Posts ... these are different ways that bypass the Diapering Frontpage.

We anticipate some nice offers for MDC offers ... please be watching!

I just wanted to be clear, because now I feel bad. I am not upset that the page is there...I am glad there is a way for MDC to find financial support so that we can continue having the benefits of this community free of charge. I was mostly upset at myself for not being able to retrain my fingers once I was already in the forum so that I did not have to click through every single time I wanted to read a thread. Plus, I am PMSing...doesn't help. lol.

Cynthia Mosher
03-02-2004, 01:52 PM
Jennifer, thank you for your words and support. I hope I didn't make you feel bad. :hug

I just felt I should explain and offer my apology as we were so excited to get the page up and running and didn't think about the irritation factor of a blah blah blah page all day.

We did stipulate that the advertisers offer a special specifically for MDC mamas so that it would not be simply addvertising but something our members would benefit from and hopefully enjoy as a feature of the board. We do welcome your ideas and input. :)

It's growing on me. I just wish the advertisers would rotate more, or that more wahms would advertise. I'm jonesing to spend $ and don't know where to go right now! LOL! :)

HeatherSanders

Rebecca, it is a 3 Month placement, but the advertisers' spots do rotate once a week from top to bottom to change it up somewhat and give equal amt. of exposure to all the advertisers. Our spots for June are nearly filled ... and we'll start a new advertising cycle then. :)
