My DS is almost 3 years old, and we have coslept his entire life.
He has his own bed (a toddlerbed from IKEA), but he very rarely sleeps in it for long periods of time. We parent him to sleep every night, and will continue to do so.

BUT, tonight he will be sleeping in his own room alone for the very first time!:eek

I have always had MY bed in his room. So that we have always coslept in his room. He starts out in his own bed sometimes, but always joins me in the big bed when I go to bed (or sometime during the night).

Tonight, I will go to sleep in my own bed, in my own room. Its right next door to his room.

Both doors will be open, and I have told him several times today what to do if/when he wakes up. We even tried it once earlier today...:LOL I was lying in my bed in my room, and he pretended to be sleeping in his bed. He "woke up", and came in to my room, where I pretended to wake up and help him get settled next to me.:love

I really hope this will work!

It would be so great to be able to sleep in my own room again.

But he will ofcourse be welcomed into my bed at any time any night.

Wish us luck!:wave

Good Luck! Let us know how it goes. I have a 9.5 month old cosleeper and I can't even imagine the day I can sleep alone again. What bliss! :) and sadness :(

Hey, last night was ds's first night in his room, too! He told us one day that "in five days I'm gonna sleep in my room" so we did a count-down. He was nervous at first, but stayed there. I had to check-in a few times before he fell asleep. He's so stoked now... oh, yeah, that's because I let him have a spoonful of ice cream with breakfast to celebrate. :D

How'd it go for you, Tamara?

It went pretty good, actually!

He fell asleep in his bed (with his daddy sitting in the rockingchair next to the bed) at 7.30 PM last night.

I went to bed around midnight. About 1 hour later, I heard him cry for me. I told him (thru the wall) that he could come into my bed if he didn`t want to sleep alone anymore. And he wanted to sleep with me. So, he did that for the rest of the night.:love

And thats totally ok with me. I have no realistic hopes of him sleeping alone all night yet. He always wakes at night to check that someone is with him, and thats ok.

But, its so great for me to finally sleep in my own room. :D

Good luck with your DS, too!:wave
