DS starts in his crib (usually) and comes to our bed when he first wakes. This works great for me -- I feel much better rested not having to go upstairs to nurse/console him -- and I think DS sleeps better in bed when he is cuddled up with me. But DH is a very light sleeper and is majorly cranky when he is tired.

He recognizes that co-sleeping benefits me and DS and is very supportive, but it's getting to him and he worries that we are setting up habits that will continue for a long time and that he will never get any sleep!

He's slept a couple of nights upstairs on the futon, but I really don't like us not being able to sleep together.

It's mostly a noise issue but also sometimes a getting thwacked by DS when he is moved to the middle to be BF on that side. Of course, the cat has been crazy in the middle of the night as of late, so that isn't helping either.

So any suggestions to help DH sleep better in the bed with us?

Thanks!

Hi Shannon, I just saw your post. I hope I can help! I co-sleep with my DS in our bed. My DH is works shifts so we are all over the map with sleeping. I am the light sleeper in the family - I am like your DH - I awake from baby's noise, movement, our cat, bright light, loud snoring, etc. etc.

Suggestions? Well, I find it easier to dull out noise with a fan going - the white noise helps me sleep and stay asleep. similarly, If there is really loud noise, I even play a white noise cd which helps block out sound. However, if your DH is as light a sleeper as me, the best suggestion (I know you don't like it but ...) is to try sleeping in separate rooms. My DH, DS and I were all sleeping in one bed in the beginning and it was a nightmare for me. Between my son who wakes every 30 minutes to 2 hours a night and my husband who tosses and turns and SNORES, I couldn't sleep - and that was even with the white noise on. It is much better for all of us while my son is still nursing if we just do what gives us all the most sleep. The way I look at this - it's all a temporary coping solution. I hope this helps a bit!
