I'm in the very early stages of pregnancy but don't want to go off of my Prozac. I just don't feel ready at all. Anyway, my dr. says it's safe to take during pregnancy and since I won't see my midwife for at least another couple of months I thought I'd see what you all thought. I know it's not ideal but I don't think I could handle the panic attacks right now.

Thanks!

I have continued taking Zoloft through two pregnancies. For me; it was a miracle how good I felt (even though I tossed my cookies 3-4 times a day). No anxiety attacks, no feeling like I wanted to die, no freaking out when the sun went down.

I finally understood what others were talking about.

Yes! I am so prone to all of those things that you mentioned. I really feel like staying on my Prozac will help me through this pregnancy and keep me sane. Esp. with my last baby I would wake up in the night and think he was dead b/c he wasn't moving. It was awful!

I took Paxil throughout my first pregnancy and continue to take it now in my second.

I also feel like I truly need it.

I took Paxil through my pregnancy and through 18 months of nursing. I needed it for anxiety and depression. If I hadn't had a little pharmaceutical help, I would never have been able to have a child, and take care of it like a normal mother. I would have been in a pit of blackness and probably put the baby in daycare immediately. I definitely would have been a danger to her, and to myself.

ekblad7, congrats on your pregnancy!! I've heard Prozac referred to as "vitamin P" because it's considered so comparatively harmless, and it sounds like your doctor okayed it. My feeling is, if something inside you is telling you not to go off your meds, then I'd say follow that voice - it knows.

Even though you aren't going to see your midwife for a couple months, you might consider calling her now and talking to her about Prozac and so on, if it would give you peace of mind. Also it would start a dialogue with her about your situation, which would be helpful.

Congrats again.

Thanks for the info everyone. Unfortunately the pregnancy didn't "stick" this time but it's good to know for future pregnancies (I hope!):)

Amy-

I am sorry to hear of your loss.

For your next pregnancy- yes, take it.
I am on lexapro right now because pregnancy caused more depression.

Sending you hugs...Sorry again...
