Does anyone have any thoughts on green tea during pregnancy?
I was sort of on this green tea kick, but when I got pregnant, I quit drinking it because it has caffeine, and switched to other pregnancy-recommended teas like rasp. leaf and nettles. I've never really heard one way or another if it's a good or bad thing- or just sort of a non-thing to drink it while pg? Anyways, I'm just curios if anyone has any thoughts.

Well I drink it when I feel like I HAVE to have some caffeine or I will fall over (like during my midafternoon class), because I figure if I have to drink the caffeine I may as well get the good benefits of the green tea at the same time.
That said ,I have no actual knowledge of whether or not it is good/bad for you in pregnancy. I just think it's probably better than Diet Coke. :LOL

there was a thread some time ago about it and the fact that it had estrogenic properties, so *I quit. But, when I continued to read about tea, it seems that its the same leaf just the way it is treated. I'm not sure if black gets the same rap. I hope not. I need to buy some organic black decaf. I'm goin into dts not havin my sweet tea! :crying

For those who love black tea, (I must have my iced tea!), black tea has been found to be as good for you as green tea as far as the flavanoids and antioxidants go. Here's one of many links about it Tea (http://www.teahealth.co.uk/th/facts/1.htm)

Brewed coffee has about 120mg caffeine per 12 oz serving.
Espresso coffee (2 oz) has about 100mg caffeine.
Most caffeinated sodas/pops have about 50-60 mg caffeine per 12 oz serving.
Black tea has about 60 mg caffeine per 12 oz serving.
Green tea has about 30 mg caffeine per 12 oz serving.
Hot chocolate has about 10 mg caffeine per 12 oz serving.
(These are averages I found a variety of websites with caffeine charts.)
Black and green teas do have lots of beneficial antioxidants, so take that into account when deciding whether to have tea or coffee.
warmly,
claudia

Rooibos is safe for pregnant mamas? I love rooibos, but I never knew whether or not you should drink it during pg, so that is good news! I'll pick some up next trip to the hfs.

There's a decaf green tea, Celestial Seasonings, which is delicious ...
But is green tea not a good thing for pregnancy?
