Hi. Friends of our are in the process of applying to adopt and they asked us for a reference.

They are wonderful people, would make wonderful parents and we want to do everything we can to help make that possible. We're honored that they asked us, and this is so huge that I don't want to mess it up!

The question I'm worried about is one that specifically asks about their personal limitations. That's a toughie! They have a few quirks (just like everyone does) but nothing that I can see that would keep them from being good parents. How do I answer that question? I know I have to be honest, but if I say they don't have any - is that bad?

Does anyone have any advice?

We had the same question when we filled out a reference for friends adopting from China. I hated it because it seemed like a trick question! I simply said that I didn't think they had any qualities that would prevent them from being excellent parents.

I agree. I think it's fine to just say that they would be great parents and you can't think of any personal limitations that would be a problem.

I answered honestly. I think it made the rest of my words worth more because I was (obviously) not pulling any punches. And it showed that I really did know the person well enough to see lots of sides.
If it's something that's a deal breaker, you should mention it. If it's small, why not mention it?
Although I like the "nothing that would prevent.." as stated above. That's a nice thought, too.

Thank you so much for the input everyone! I really appreciate it! :) My DH and I are going to sit down this afternoon and fill out the forms.
