I have read off a lot of names to DH and the names he likes are in the top ten. It's a good thing I have 34 weeks to get him used to a name a choose.:thumb

I can't think of any good boy names yet..I think my lust for a girl is going to make the child a boy and he'll be nameless :)

For a girl I love Lily but my son is Eli so I don't want a little pharmaceutical company in my house..sigh...

So..we also have the great grands option of Lucie and Helen..I don't know..

It's early yet and I have time :)

Meg- DH swears that I will have another boy because I want a girl and I am only looking at girl names.

We do have one possibility: Donna Claire

DH's mother is Donna and Father is Clarence. DH wanted to name DS Clarence and I was against it and said that we could name our girl Donna Claire. Now I'm not so sure.

LOL..my DH (Tom) wants a girl as much as I do..he knows we aren't getting any younger here. I have a pretty good feeling this one is a girl, but I've been wrong before..

Anyway..I think if it is a boy, William would be nice..but it's getting really popular again..I also like Daniel and Nicholas..I like popular boys names I guess.

I love lots of girls names so narrowing it down will be tough...:)

We already have the boy name picked out ~Graeme~ not sure on the middle names but I am leaning towards either Nicholas John or Nicholas Charles (middle names have to be after or in memory of actual family members so that narrows the field a bit LOL and this time we want to honour DHs dad because last time we honoured my brother :D)

For girls we are on MUCH shakier ground LOL...we have a HUGE long list of names that we like and have never managed to narrow the field...when DS was born we had 1 boy name and still had more than 15 girls names...

Right now the leading contenders are Esme (with the accent but I can't remember how to do that on my computer LOL) as my top choice and Eowyn (with the accent again) as DHs top choice.

...hoping for a boy (at least he will have a name LOL!)

This is hard! Took us about 38 weeks with Kaia. We had to find out her gender at the u/s because coming up with two names would have been impossible! lol

I have pretty strict criteria which rules out a lot of nice names. It has to be uncommon. The child should hopefully only meet a handful of others with the same name in thier life.

So I really like Issac but that's out. I also like Isaiah (note, I can't spell lol). That's uncommon enough but still is too closely known for it's religious origins. We're athiests and a strongly religious name doesn't sit well with me. We do live a very non-religious area though so it's not like most people would even think about it being religious. It's a dilema.

There are many more girls names I like. I like Lydia atm, but I think it's a bit too common.

As you can see it's a good thing we've got another 34 weeks to work this out :LOL

We have funny naming rules here too LOL...

Boys names must be one syllable, must be from the British Isles and must not be spelled the way most people would expect (but must be authentic not made up spellings), and they must be easy to pronounce...Rhys is pronounced Reese and is a Welsh name.

Girls names...they are a free for all (thus our problems!!) but the must be more than one syllable and must not be in the top 100 (preferably top 1000 LOL) names. They can be popular in the British Isles as long as they are not popular HERE (which would be Canada). Oh and they again must be from the British Isles....

The British Isles thing is just because both DH and I have ancestry there and it "fits" with DHs last name. DHs mother was born in England and his paternal grandparents are from Ireland. In my family we can trace our lines back to England (my grandfather was a war orphan), Ireland and Scotland....yep absolutely no Welsh blood...but they have all the funky names LOL!

Graeme is actually Scottish so we will be on stronger ground with that name than with Rhys (culturally speaking LOL). Eowyn is actually a made up name (made up by JRR Tolkien granted but still made up) so I am trying to get it booted from the list on those grounds...but DH is like a dog with a bone! And Esme is actually latin....but hey rules are meant to be broken right??

Our dd was named after people in our family, and we'd like to keep with that tradition with this child.

Our "working models" are William John and Anna Elizabeth.

Not sure about either of those, but we're going to live with them for awhile and see how we feel. I love my dd's name so I feel like I've set the bar really high!

the best for a girls's name.

For boys, I like so far, Ethan, and I kinda like Duncan too!

Uh oh..we were also contemplating Sage..I like flower names a lot, but Salvia just doesn't do it LOL..

Basically, Elijah came to us for the silliest of reasons, and I'm sort of hoping to be inspired again somehow..

My other kids already got all the family name things..Alexis Catherine has my mothers name as her middle, and Jacob Paul has my stepdads name as his middle. My father George has requested a child never be named for him..happy to help out there :)

I love the Graeme...I love british names..I know a gal here with a son called Taran and I'm dying to steal the name but I won't!!

Well I like Zion for a boy, but dh doesn't. We have to think of something that goes with Kiri, LOL! If we have a boy his middle name will be Louis. I'm ok with that as a first name, too, not a whole lot of them around, but it's a little bland for a first name. Dh likes Nathaniel Louis and I do, too. I like "Nat" as a nickname - nobody's called that anymore. I like Norah for a girl, or Zenia (which is my aunt's real name). We don't have any good family names except Annie. My BILs middle name is Earl, and I'm growing fonder of that, but it's a little stuffy. We're a long ways a way from anything final! :rolleyes:

We're already set on Sam for a boy. His full name will be Samuel, not sure about the middle name, maybe James. I want to keep one syllable nicknames for the boys so it would be Will, Ben, and Sam:).

For a girl, first we liked Kennedy, then it was Isabel, and now we really like Amelie. Her middle name would be Arwen. We're basically just trying to decide between Isabel and Amelie right now. I like Amelie because it's less common, but I'm afraid people would mistake it for Emily or not know how to pronounce it upon seeing it.

Kaia's middle name is Luthien, also a JRRT name. This kid will also have a LOTR middle name. Dion's a huge fan so he gets to pick a middle name from there and I get main say over first name. I wasn't sure what girls name to use next from LOTR but now you mention it I do like the name Eowyn. I didn't really like it before the movie, but I do now.

Hey All:

It's funny about Eowyn..I really like it, too. Mostly because of Tolkein, but also because I had a nurse in my last hospital birth who was amazing and named Eowyn!! Her family had been big fans..she was pretty young, maybe 25. It just makes me think about it more.

DH and I really like Daisy Jane if it's a girl..but with 8 months to go I'm not settling yet LOL

The only rule we have is that their middle name begin with an "A" .

Riley is my middle name, I just liked Darian and well Trapolin. Trapolin is a long story. Back in college while obviously in some sort of altered state, dh and his best friend promised to name their firstborn sons after one another. His friend's name was Clairbourne "Clay" Trapolin. Since I didn't like Clairbourne Trapolin it is.

I like Gaia a lot but there is already a girl named Gaia in my daughters class. I told dh if it was a girl we could name it Galadriel or Arwen:LOL

Being a huge Tolkien fan myself, I like all those lovely girls names that have been suggested, but dw sadly is NOT a Tolkien fan. She's come up with a lovely compromise though, also a Welsh name: Anwen.

Middle names are already picked out because we want to recognize my stepmom (last name Campbell) or my mom (maiden name Nancarrow). Dw's father who died tragically when she was 3 is James, which is a very nice name.

So: Boy: James Campbell
Girl: Anwen Nancarrow

The only thing is, we also have criteria about not wanting it to be too weird or too ordinary. I think we might have blown our criteria on both of those first names :LOL !

Lately dw hasn't been so sure about James, I think she wants something more creative, and so we are leaning towards other versions of James --Seamus, Hamish, but Seamus or Hamish Campbell is INTENSELY British Isles for two people who have mixed German/French/Irish/English ancestry...hmmmm...

I also love Rebecca (which was also the middle name of my beloved great grandmother) and dw has a great aunt who was Emma-Kate which is a really pretty combination in my mind and quite unusual....

Oh wow!!! I think DH and I have found the girls name :D Now we have to decide how the heck to spell it LOL!

The name is Eilis/Ailis and is pronounced Aye-lish. DH was thumbing through the baby name book listing names aloud and said that one and I said "I :love that name!" I have said it to him at least a dozen times and always gotten *the look* and a heck no...but somehow when he is the one offering it as a suggestion it goes down like butter :LOL

That actually happened to us with Rhys. I had know about the name Rhys for YEARS and had suggested it hundreds of times...nope nope nope. At 8 months pregnant we were watching Legally Blonde and DH said "I like the name Reese"...I said "So do I but its a boys name and she spells it wrong LOL"...he said he would give me gender and spelling if I gave him the name....sure honey...just cause i love you :thumb

DH was sulking last night because I wouldn't give him Rhiannon...not because I don't love the name (I do) but because I don't like siblings names that aliterate KWIM? It sucks too because there are soooo many nice names that start with the letter R!

Aaaah, names. We had the HARDEST time figuring out names for our first one! It was about a week or two before he was born that we were finally able to agree on what to call him. I was a teacher before becoming a mama, so I cannot stand anything too common, because I have associations with so many names. It couldn't be a name that had been a previous student's. Not too bad, except my husband really loves traditional names... Sigh. What a nightmare! We also weren't sure if it was going to be a boy or a girl, so we had to have one of each picked out. We finally settled on Kaden Kenneth Michael for a boy, and I just love his name. Now, of course, we've set a precident that our kids are going to have three names, so it's going to be fun. Our girls name from last time was Kayleigh Jessica (My maiden name was Lee, and my first name starts with a K, so I used to be K. Lee, and my husband's middle name is Jess, so Jessica is after that). Now we just have to come up with a third name for her. I chose Michael for Kaden's middle name because it was a biblical name I always loved, so now I have to come up with a biblical third name if it's a girl. I'm tossing around Kayleigh Jessica Elizabeth, but I'm just not sold on it yet. Our runner up boy name last time was Keller, so I'm pretty sure that's what we'll go with this time. I want Keller Ross (Ross is my dad's middle name), and I'm thinking that maybe Keller Ross Joseph, or something. Sigh. Why does coming up with a name have to be SO STINKING hard??? :) And I just found out I'm pregnant, so I feel like I've lost out on several weeks of name searching time!! :)

We've got a hard time with names because

We hyphenated when we got married, and this kid is going to spend so much time spelling their last name for folks that it's got to be a simple to spell and pronounce first name just even things out.

We don't want anything that starts with the same letter as our last name. Plus it's got to sound good with our last name

We both have the same first letter of our first names, so we don't want anything that starts with that 'cause it would be hopeless cutesy.

Many of the names that are beautiful and not incredibly common have been used either in the family or by close friends, and I don't want to do that. I wouldn't rule out Sarah because someone else has it, but we have friends will children named Talia, Lila, Lily, Julia and Zoey. All favorites of mine.

We probably want to use parts of my parents names in the kids names, so we'd like something that works that way.

I like the idea of gender neutral names, but DH doesn't like any of those that I've come up with.

I also don't want to get to settled on anything because I want some leeway to look at the kid and say "this fits".

We're having a really tough time with names this time. We hyphenated, but my last name is pretty neutral and all you notice is my husband's ver irish last name. We love this irish names, but unfortunately everyone loves them and they're getting so over popular. Everyone is using them. To make matters worse - for those of us with boys - lots of the irish boys names are used for girls in the US. For two years everyone commented that they'd never heard of our oldest son's name, now people tell us they know 6 of them. uggh!

We really want different, unusual, and yet easily pronounced names. Not too wierd for US ears. Both our names end in the "an" sound - Karen and Aidan - so that rules out all the Brendan, Devin, etc. We have two boys so we've never used our girls list. It's huge. We struggled to come up with a name for our second son. Now if it's a third . . . Oh, and this will be the 17th grandchild on my husbands (irish) side, so names are getting tough.
