Hope you don't mind, I took this out of the other thread....

My midwife charges $2900 for a homebirth and knocks off 10% if you pay cash up front. So we are paying a monthly payment to her now of about $250. It's worth every penny! Now if we had insurance that would cover it, I would look into it. But we don't have insurance, so we are just sucking it up - cutting corners wherever and finding money wherever. My FIL has offered to help financially too although we have refused him so far.

I also know that midwives sometimes will barter AND some will allow you to keep paying after the birth. My friend took a year to finish paying off her birth center birth as it was that important to her.

In my case I will never birth in a hospital again unless I want to be strapped to a bed with an epidural. The hospitals around here are only accustomed to that kind of birth. Dallas is a very medicated place. But I know that in some cities (Denton, Austin) the birth experience could be better in a hospital than here due to a different attitude overall about birth in that community.

Toddler calls....

I am sorry you've had such a bad birth experience....

It really depends on your area of the country... Boston isn't so bad and they really tried to stick to my birth plans as much as possible

Saralynn- I hope you can work out a payment schedule for the homebirth!
