Medi-Cal??? Got answers?

Any moms or families out there on Medi-Cal? My cobra insurance expired May1 and I have been trying to get info re: MediCal from the DPSS and they are clueless! I've been calling and asking since May 1 and they still can't figure out an answer about what MediCal covers. I also called a Blue Cross HMO that is under MediCal and they saidthey can't tell mewhat it covers either.

I can't afford an individual plan right now - luckily my baby is on Healthy Families and so far it's great.

Anyone out there have experience with MediCal and can tell me if it's good/bad - any stories welcome. I'm trying to decide b ythe end of the week or so what to do.

I wonder if some one would have an answer to this in the finding Your Tribe Forim? Not that you didn't put it in the right spot, it's just that no one here seems to know. Maybe someone from your area would know?

All I can say is its free so you cant really complain about what the dont pay for, besides its better to have medi-cal then no coverage at all:) I have one of there HMO plans and so far everything has been covered:)

I have Medi-cal...had it for a year now, and all my doctor's visits and prescriptions, a dental cleaning and a filling, my whole birth in a birth center, all of dd's well-baby visits have been covered...But I too am in the dark about uthe extent of coverage and would like to learn more...I'm especially curious if you could get it to cover any alternative methods like acupuncture or chiropractics...there must be a website or hotline or something...

Try logging on to "100pecentcampaign.org" or "childrennow.org" for more information on Medi Cal and/or Healthy Families. They'll give you a link. You can also try the Calif. state website. They should also have a link for you.

Hopefully (if the proposed state budget passes) , Healthy Families will be made available to parents of children who qualify. I am with a community organizing group that has been working on this issue and, so far, has been winning.

Let me know what your status is, and I'll try to find more info for your area!
