The sex of your child? If so, why and if not why?

Well, I voted yes. I am so terrible with surprises!! I have a level 3 u/s at 25 weeks because a serious heart defect runs in dh's family (dh has it, too) and it's something we need to be aware of in case baby needs surgery after birth. These level 3 u/s are so detailed at 25 weeks and I am such a sucker. I can't just sit there and NOT find out.

I think I could do it if we didn't have to have that u/s.

Yes, purely because I am impatient and can not stand not knowing. It makes very little difference to me other than names, but I still want to know.

I voted no. I have done it both ways - I found out with #1 and #2 was a surprise. I liked the surprise at birth - it was just so much fun, plus it's an incentive to push... :D

Though, come to think of it, my husband will have to watch the kids if we have another ultrasound later along the line... I don't think I'll find out separately though! That'd just be too much. LOL

So in a nutshell, we want the news at birth. :)

I knew with Elijah and that was great for planning or whatever..but as I said in the other thread..i just don't care what this one is so I think I'll just wait for the surprise this time :) I'm even only buying yellow duckie things..though I don't need anything for a boy..

Oh Christine. I like the idea of waiting and using that as an incentive to push. I just might wait!

1)I've always liked the idea of the surprise.

2) I'm pretty ideological about the non-gendered thing-wanting my child to have as many choices about who they are going to be that comes from inside of them, as opposed to how their are supposed to be because to the equipment they come with.

This feeling got much stronger watching alot of A Baby Story, and seeing parents and families who had found out plan their whole kids futures, "I'm so glad we're having a boy so I can have somebody to throw a ball with" or "I'm so glad I'll have a daughter who I can go shopping with, and bake cookies" I just wonder what about the boys who like to go shopping or the girls who want to play ball. So for me I feel like I'm giving my kid those extra few months without the world telling them how to be.

Yes will find out the gender. I just like to know, like to pick out a few possible names. I like surprises, but not this one.

i said maybe. i really like the idea of letting the little thing be genderless until it's born--it's really the only time a person can do that. on the other hand, if we need to have an ultrasound later (and by need i mean--there's some concern that we need addressed, not just we're really curious), i'm not going to turn my head away!

i really do like the idea of finding out at birth, too. like, "what'd we get?"

Nope. We're gonna go for the suprise!
(plus, I'm with Gonnabeamom... once the child is here, we still won't really know what gender they identify with. That will be for them to decide. It'll be tricky in this world, but we're hopeful about trying to keep the gender space as neutral as possible.
It will be hard, but I guess I'll turn my head at the 20 week U/S.

No way!

DH wants to know a little bit, but if he finds out he'll spill the beans for sure. I want to be surprised and not have everything picked out beforehand. I want to hear the dr. (or DH, that would be kind of cool) say "It's a .... !" and be surprised by what he says! Just my opinion. I think it's very exciting!
