There's what looks like a good job for me at UVM, but we've never been (the farthest north I've ever been is Thetford) & I don't know much about it.

We're currently living in Madison, WI, but b/f this lived in Providence, RI. DH's family lives in southern MA.--he grew up there, and we both went to college in western MA. I'm from Oregon, where my parents live still. We'd like to move closer to family.

I guess I'm going to apply for it & see what happens--what's the harm, right? I know Burlington's supposed to be a good place to live, and maybe we could finally get the old house in the country we've been daydreaming about. But I'm feeling REALLY conflicted. My library is about to move into a beautiful, brand-spanking new building. DD is 1 year old, and we have tons of ties to the community now, mostly through my prenatal yoga, but also some college friends who live in the area, and we just got a plot in the community garden...

I guess I'm getting ahead of myself, since I haven't even written the cover letter. I think this would be a good job, but I just can't get excited about it.

So tell me about Burlington, and get me excited about it!

I'm not a Vermont mama but I've been to Burlington & its great. Its a cool town with lots of convienences, cool restaurants and yet has a feeling that its faraway from things. Vermont has a pretty liberal atmosphere and people are very enviromental. (on campus they use recycled goods: such as toilet paper) The only things I think going against it are 1) its too cold - but if you are coming from Wisconsin you are probably used to that and 2) there is a LOT of pot smoking at UVM. I mean A LOT. And I am not a pot smoker so that's not really my scene. Good luck!

I grew up in Vermont but have never lived in Burlington. But I have been there countless times. I love Burlington. There's lots do do, lots of good restaurants, etc, but if you want to live in the country you can do so and have just a short commute into the city. I've visited UVM lots of time while in 4-H, but I don't know that much about it. The campus is pretty, that's about all I know. :D

I'm sure the cost of living is higher than some parts of the country and the pay scale for some jobs is lower according to my father who until recently worked in Burlington.

But if I could ever convince DH to move to Vermont we'd be living close to Burlington.
