i need info. in black & white to send to my brother and his wife on why NOT to do it! anything from an m.d. would be very swaying, i feel, as they're already sucked in to the "typical" birthing proces via hospital, ob/gyn, etc. (if you could see me, there's actually smoke coming out of my ears at their decision, but i'm trying to be supportive and gracious.) however, i'm really upset for my nephew, who's due in late july!!!

OMG, are you me? My SIL is also due with her first, beginning of August, and is doing everything the traditional route so far. She hasn't found out the sex of the baby (dh didn't want to), and even though I think it's a girl, I'm worried about it being a boy and being circumsized. I don't have the links handy that you want, go through this forum. You will find a lot! Good for you for trying to educate them. My SIL doesn't listen to me about anything:crying

Well, I'm sure your SIL listens to Dr Sears and Dr Spock, so here are their thoughts about circumcision:
http://faculty.washington.edu/gcd/DOC/spock.html
http://www.askdrsears.com/html/1/t012000.asp
And here's an article from a Pediatrician who is a clinical instructor at the Medical College of Wisconsin and a consultant to the American Academy of Pediatrics Task Force on Circumcision.
http://www.acsh.org/publications/priorities/0904/circno.html
This is an organisation called "Doctors Opposing Circumcision":

Here's another interesting website, called Health-Central:
http://www.healthcentral.com/centers/OneCenter.cfm?center=circumcision
And here's another powerful article, from the unbiased CNN:
http://www.cnn.com/HEALTH/9712/23/circumcision.anesthetic/index.html
And one more from CNN:
http://www.cnn.com/HEALTH/9903/01/circumcision.recomendation/index.html
And I definitely think they should read this consent form, formulated by a pediatrician:

Good luck to you!!

Oh geez... tomorrow we go in for our 20 week u/s & hope to *find out* ...
We have decided not to circ if we have a boy, though it took a little bit of educating for dh - but that's ok - he was open to just doing the 'right thing,' so it wasn't that difficult.
I am just crossing my fingers that *IF* it turns out that we have a boy, we don't have any family issues over this! Of course, with 6 boys in the family all circed [in-laws & nephews], I can't imagine they won't ask and that they won't 'get it' if we say we're not.
I guess the biggest argument sometimes that seems to get through ...The national [US] circumcision rate is 60%, less than 40% in some states. So it's getting better... slowly. I think.
I'm sure you've mentioned that over 80% of the world's men are intact...?
Sometimes that everyone *isn't* doing it anymore seems to mean the most to some *sheep...*
Also, the AAP no longer recommends it, though I think their stance is a little to wishy-washy for my taste, that might mean something to some folks hard to sway.
I believe all the major health organizations, including the World Health Oraganization opposes it [but I can't find an article at that their site - I hope someone has a link, if it exists...].
Sorry if I haven't been of much help...
Best wishes to you in your endeavor!! ;)

You can also go to www.nocirc.org and click on "nocirc publications." There you will find some very informative pamphlets, including one that spells out the potential complications of circumcision. They are not under copyright , so you can print them all off for free!
