Diaper Sewing--frugal use of flannel on hand, or buy more fabric?

I'm about to venture into the land of diaper sewing. I've got some flannel--both new fabric & old sheets. Can I make nice diapers with these fabrics, or should I buy some stretch terry, hemp, cotton velour, whatever.....

i've made some flannel diapers when i was first learning. they came out really trim, but you need a LOT of layers, especially with a heavy wetter. i thought it was a great fabric to learn on and then you can venture out into hemp, velour, organics, etc. good luck!!

I agree, flannel is great for learning. If you have a light wetter if may work full time for you.

I agree too, play around on the flannels first. If you have some old towels around they'd make thirstier soakers than the flannel. After you've made a few, tweaked your pattern and made a few more, etc, then get into the more expensive fabrics.

Fabric can be expensive, but time is priceless. I didn't want to put a bunch of effort into something that wasn't going to be nice/useful.

If you want to try working with knit fabric, old t-shirts make great dipes!
