... i picked up an issue today at the grocery store... i'd been meaning to flip through one for awhile, and today just seemed like the right time...

i'm a bit disappointed. it seems completely geared toward... well... people with money. lots of it.

one section is about wallet-friendly ways to buy organic food... and in one part it says to "think like a hippie." :scratch it also totally disses the long hair / bare feet / natural thing... like, you can only be cool if you shave and wear nice -- BUT ORGANIC -- clothes? you still have to be trendy?

i mean, i get that it's called "Organic Style" but still... the whole magazine seems a bit... pretentious?

has anyone else read it?

Yup, I totally agree. I found very little organic about it. Sorry I wasted my $4 on it.

yep, It is about as "organinc" as Real Simple is simplistic. Some good recipies in Organic Style, but I quickly commit them to memory in the Wild Oats check out line :LOL

i got a free subscription to Latina awhile back... :scratch i wish i knew how stuff like that happened. i could take advantage of it more. ;)

i agree: It is about as "organinc" as Real Simple is simplistic. i read Real Simple for a few issues... until i saw what they thought of breastfeeding. :angry

Got a free "trial issue" and made them CANCEL and remove me from their list. Organic Style is definitely not my style!!

yeah, i think the title is a bit off as well. however, i find that it makes for good fluff reading...doesn't everyone need some fluff to read every so now and then? i equate it to a fashion magazine, but geared toward people who hate the traditional fashion mags like glamour and cosmo.

I ordered a free trial issue from this mag, too. I got a bill before I ever saw a magazine, then a few weeks later I recieved the April and May issue on the same day. The next day, I recieved a free cookbook as "a thank you for subscribing". I was sure they were going to hasssle me about paying, but when I called they just canceled my subscription. I wasn't impressed at all, so I probably would've canceled anyway. The whole transaction felt very manipulative though. On the plus side, some of the recipes in the cookbook sound really good! :D

Mere ~ it's funny you would say that. this morning i was just glancing through it again and thought, "you know, this is like Glamour, but about organic stuff." :LOL

I actually like this magazine....The subscription is cheap (about $14 a year), the articles are interesting and I've found a lot of good resources for things through their articles and advertisements. I really liked the article with tips on how to save money on organic food - what's wrong with that? They also have interesting articles on travel....places that you wouldn't hear about it a normal travel magazine. Yeah, some of the columns are stupid (like how to give a celebrity a "Green" makeover? wtf?) But I just flip through them and read the things that interest me. FWIW, I am not rich or pretentious.

Isn't Organic Style published and edited by the same staff that produces "Shape" magazine? They also do weight lifting and bodybuilding mags.

I don't appreciate all the darn ads!!!! IT is soooo mainstream, corperate organic, promoting too many low carb supplements.

Its redundant. Just my opinion.

TranscendentalMom, the piece on saving money when buying organic was pretty good, but i don't like how they phrase some of the stuff (i.e., "your hippie cousin doesn't even have a paycheck and she manages to fill her net mesh market bag every week") ~

the subscription *is* cheap. i realized today that a 1 year subscription (10 issues) is $10 :eek and a 2 year is $15! yet the newsstand price is like, $4.

HMM. :scratch

My mom got me a sub. I think it is good fluff reading, but not what I expected. It has disappointed me a lot and yes, I think it caters to the rich people who eat organic. Definetly not me!
