Hi,
is anyone else getting totally excited. This is my first baby and my due date is August 17th. I can't wait. It is not too much longer. How are other first time mommies dealing with the anticipation? What kind of preparations are you still making?

Hi Sandy! :wave :D I am also a first timmer. And I am really starting to get excited as well as anxious. I think I have started to prepare mentally. It has actually just hit me that I am going to be a mommy soon! :eek It is relatively easy to take care of this little one on the inside. I am concerned I won't be quite as effiecient when he/she gets on the outside, IYKWIM?
I have also started getting clothes, diapers, blankets, etc. And been preparing for my home birth by ordering birth supplies, confirming my birthing tub and just trying to figure out where everything will go! :)
I am meeting with my doula for the first time tomorrow! :thumb and my friend is throwing me a baby shower the end of June. I am trying to hold off buying more stuff until I know what I have after that. I am also sewing (just learned) baby clothes and hats.
Other than that just trying to relax, stay healthy and really enjoy the miracle of life growing inside of me! It is so amazing and miraculous. I still can't believe I have been so blessed.

Hi Cheryl,
it sounds like all your preparations are well underway. I wanted a midwife home birth, but I have pre-existing high blood pressure and no midwife would take me. I have accepted this fact and found a likeable doctor and suitable hospital.
I, too, can't quite believe that we are going to have our very own little baby - a person! It seems absurd, surreal, unfathomable. Making people is both too commonplace and too profound to really wrap my mind around. Just to think that every single one of us is here because some woman went through this whole pregnancy and delivery process.
I am anxious, too. Of course there is the physical care of the baby, hoping baby's health is good...but then I also think about giving the kind the intangibles - enough love, stimulation, opportunity, healthy role modelling, structure, etc... to build a happy, whole personhood.
Take care and good luck. We will only be first time mommies once!

Hi Sandy! Looks like we may be the only first time mommies here for August! :D I met with my doula today. She is a friend of mine and is getting her DONA certification so we aren't paying her anything. I am sure we will get her some kind of gift though... That is too bad about the high blood pressure. I have seen women have very wonderful births in hospitals also though so I send you good birth vibes.<<<<<<pleasant hospital birth>>>>>>>>
My dh set up our "crib" today. Now it really seems real! :thumb. We are actually setting it up as a daybed (it is one of those convertable cribs that goes from crib to daybed to full sized headboard and footboard deally's) and sliding in right next to our bed to use as a co-sleeper of sorts. I think it will work well. We still have a tiny gap between the crib and our bed but my dh is going to rig something up to fill the space.
I also just bought another maternity dress on ebay! I really need to stop shopping for clothes! :LOL
I never thought I would be this anxious about parenthood. I am less anxious about labor and delivery! I hope I can be a good mommy!
I am sure we will both do fine though. Live and learn as they say. I find that most of the mothers on Mothering have a good head on their shoulders so I am sure you do also! :D And there is always a board to ask questions!!!:scratch :D :D
Good luck to you too! Keep in touch.

Hi Sandy & congrats on your pregnancy :)
I'm just popping in because I noticed that you're in Toronto, and I want to tell you about an amazing Babywearing playgroup in the City. We're called the KoalaMamas, and we meet every Wednesday afternoon ~ one week in the west end, the next in the east. It's really an incredible group of Mamas (no Papas attending yet!), and I want to invite you to c'mon over to our site to check it out & even pop by a meeting if you can before your baby comes!
We've usually got at least 10 women attending with babies & toddlers, and between us we've got almost every sling/wrap under the sun. It's a fantastic chance to meet other Moms, and also try out slings before you buy.
I realize that I sound like a used car salesman, but what can ya do? :rolleyes When you love something, you gotta shout it out, right?
