I've done a lot of reading here about progesterone and I know from my online research that many, many women take progesterone for levels even much higher than mine.

I'm 5 weeks lmp and my prog. was only 10.2 and hCG was 279 (within range from what I can tell). These tests were drawn yesterday, btw.

I have a call in to the OB/GYN clinic at the Kaiser I go to, but have been told that I may not be able to get a hold of anyone about a progesterone scrip till TUESDAY since it's Friday and we're going into a holiday weekend.

I have a feeling I need it before then and am trying to figure out where/how to get someone to prescribe it for me ASAP--hubby and I are calling Kaiser back at 1:30pm if we don't hear something first, but I'm not holding my breath...it took over 48 hours to hear back from them when I called to request these blood tests!

BTW, I had a 10 week m/c in March and have had a handful of "unproven" very early losses.

WWYD if you were me?

Thanks!

Hi Shellie. I can relate. My progesterone was low, between 10 and 11, like yours, when I was pregnant with Ben. I was nursing and thought it may be due to that. I didn't want to take any chances, I had had an ectopic pregnancy a few months before, so I was thrilled to be pregnant so soon.

I did a lot of research online about progesterone levels and supplements. I didn't find any negative studies about progesterone, on the mother, the unborn baby or the nursing children. Actually, a few studies found some positive things for the babies. Anyway, I was prescribed progesterone suppositories until week 12 or so. At that time your bdy will make more progesterone and take over. Although I have heard of some women taking it longer.

You have to do what you are comfortable with, but I wanted to give you my story and wish you good luck!

Thank you!

(And I'm sorry for your loss.)

Did you have trouble getting your doc to agree to prescribe it? That's where I'm at now--they don't want to even discuss it till Tuesday and I'm not comfortable waiting that long!

Shellie, my doctor prescribed it to me when she told me my levels. She said it was pretty low, but I saw it wasn't that much below recc. levels. You may want to insist (if you can) or do a search on here for info. on OTC progesterone creams. Some women use those from ovulation on. You could maybe start that until you get the prescription, I'm sorry I haven't used them. Keep me posted and I'll be thinking of you!
