View Full Version : Fluffy thread:What do you put on your home-birthed baby?
Sassafrass 06-04-2004, 02:04 PM I am curious as to what would be most comfy on baby the first few day. I was thinking that we could just put little t-shirts on until the cord fall off and keep baby wrapped in a blanket. Should I just leave baby naked under the blanket? How much skin-to-skin do I need to provide? As much as I like? :love I also have tons of little onesies, sleepers, and gowns. FTR, it will be super hot and humid here, but we do have air-conditioning and we won't be going anywhere for a week or so.
Thanks!
Angela
georgia 06-04-2004, 03:09 PM i've never had a summer baby before, but i'm planning on just a cloth diaper in the sling. maybe a t-shirt. i'm not big on dressing them when they're so new!
momto l&a 06-04-2004, 04:01 PM I have dressed both of mine in a sack, suppose I will put the same sack on the baby coming in Oct.
MomInCalifornia 06-04-2004, 04:40 PM Well, Abigail wore the same outfit home from the hospital as I did 24 years ago, so that was special.
Since this baby will be born at home, I suppose he or she will wear a diaper (kissaluvs) and a cozy outfit. I am due in January so it will be most likely something soft and warm.
Mom2baldie 06-04-2004, 05:00 PM My baby is due in Sept. and I am planning on him/her just wearing a cloth diaper and little shirt around the house... Wont need a cute, new outfit since we wont be coming home from the hospital or anything like that. :)
GnomeyNewt 06-04-2004, 05:33 PM DD was born March 20 of this year, at home. Only thing she wore for her first week of life was a diaper, her wonderoos. I'd would have liked it better if she was naked, but you know that would not be very practical! I was born/rasied in hawaii and I always have it about 75-80 in my house so it was okay temp for her be clothes free! I was mostly naked (my top half) than too, because I just wasn't comfortable with clothes on and dealing with the whole BF thing and the shirts getting in my way. Baby's are so beautiful naked/diapered only ... I love their skin and their freshness. I can't stop looking at my baby and thinking, I'm a mamma! OMGoodness I'm a mamma!
2+twins 06-06-2004, 07:29 AM Both my babies were born in the winter and I dressed them primarily in gowns and a cap. If it were hot, I'd put on just a t-shirt and maybe socks (depending) or nothing at all. Skin to skin is wonderful - I still like to hug my 3 1/2 yo skin to skin when I can. There's just something about it.
busybusymomma 06-06-2004, 08:24 AM My ds was an April babe, it was still cool some days so I'd put him in a sleeper. Once it got warmer, he spent a lot of time in a tee and a diaper. :love
For the first week or so, Dd stayed naked. No diaper even, I just laid her on top of a few of them and some blankets and pads and changed them frequently. I stayed naked on top, and she slept on me a lot of the time. I couldn't stand to see her little legs sticking out of the diaper, it looked so uncomfortable!
thepeach80 06-07-2004, 06:01 PM AJ was born at the end of May and just wore those little snap shirts and then onesies pretty much all summer long. No socks or anything. He wasn't cded at the time, but this one will be. Of course it will be December then and will have to wear a little more than a onesie when we go out. :)
grnbn76 06-07-2004, 06:54 PM Mine will be wearing a knitted by Mama wool soaker over made by Mama hemp flats and a matching (also knitted by Mama) wool cap after he finally joins us.
I just can't wait to have all the gunk on that little baby head get all over the little baby cap and dye the wool...and it will never be washed and preserved for all eternity in a shadow box with the little baby wool soaker.
After that...gowns are pretty much my standard new baby wear.
Can you tell that I am seriously counting the minutes until I'm able to put that little baby soaker and cap on this baby???!!!??? They're adorable, they're done, and they're just waiting to be on a new baby. Now if said new baby would hurry up and get out so they can be worn!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, the gowns are awesome! Forget sleepers, go for the gowns. Much better for those midnight diaper changes! :coffee
