Dh, ds (12&1/2 months old and on the floor), ddog, and I are going home for Xmas this year. My folks regularly shampoo their carpets because they have three dogs and 5 cats. I'd like to find a less toxic shampoo than the stuff made by the machine's manufacturer (Bissell, I think). I've been trying to get my dad to use Nature's Miracle (fill it to the almost to the line, then add water), but he's afraid to try it, for fear it may lighten the carpet, though I've used it myself in our small shampooer with no problem).

Does anyone know of a natural carpet shampoo specifically made for use with shampooers? He might be more amenable to trying it.

Is it a steamer? Or does it actually produce suds? I have a steamer (albeit a cheap one, but hey, it gets the job done. :) ) and I use a scoop of oxiclean per fill up. It works really well. Sometimes, if I'm feeling ambitious that day, I use essential oil as well. Citronella works great for fleas.

Hope that helps.... :)

It's a Bissell steamer. I'll see if they like the Oxiclean idea - if my dad is concerned, I'll do it after he's left for work. I've used Oxiclean myself on clothes and like it.

Thanks for the idea.

we've had great sucsess w/ Citra-solv. You have to use a fair amount apprx. 1/4 - 1/2 cup per steamer bucket. But your house smells wonderfully of orange!
