View Full Version : "Birthing From Within"
angelmatt 06-17-2002, 08:22 PM Does anyone know where I can get this book at a low price? Also, does anyone know who the author is?
Finally, how does everyone rate this book?
Thank you so much for your help!
Louise 06-17-2002, 11:27 PM After much searching I had to special order it at my local book store. The author is Pam England and she is phenomenal! I love the book! I think every pregnant mother should own a copy- too bad it isn't more accessible to the "mainstream" publc. Definately order this one you won't regret it!
owensmom 06-18-2002, 11:28 AM I checked out a copy through the library... it is really great, I tell all my prego friends to read it (most are more "mainstream people" - but a couple have said they want no drugs even thought they are having a hospital birth. I haven't gotten any feedback from them whether they have read it or not though...).
Anyway, great great book, especially if you are like me - fairly non-confrontational, so when people challenged the birth I wanted I could quote the book, or re-read parts to get me all fired up again about what I wanted!
Kelly71 06-18-2002, 12:38 PM I got it through half.com really cheaply. good luck.

PapayaVagina 06-19-2002, 10:07 AM I found my copy at a used book store for $3!
hydrangea 06-19-2002, 10:21 AM I always go to bestbookbuys.com. They'll search through several online bookstores (including used ones like half.com) to find the best price. They also have a page where all the various bookstores' current "special deals" are listed so I've gotten some great deals!
I'm actually not sure if they include amazon.com's used book service (they do include their regular books), so if you don't see a used amazon book mentioned when you do your search, maybe go to amazon just to check.
I'm not planning on having any more children but I just got this book (at a great price) anyway because I have heard such great things about it (I'm looking into becoming a childbirth educator and doula so I'm not totally crazy).
angelmatt 06-19-2002, 11:10 AM thank you very much for all the great suggestions!:thumb
Verity 12-09-2004, 08:25 PM but a couple have said they want no drugs even thought they are having a hospital birth. I haven't gotten any feedback from them whether they have read it or not though
I had three unmedicated hospital births, and I loved BFW!!! Please keep recommending the book!

kofduke 12-10-2004, 07:51 AM Try the TP - that's where I got mine!
MamaFern 12-10-2004, 10:13 AM i ordered the book and did a birthing from within class that was being put on in vancouver at the time of my pregnancy. it was wonderful to be in an alternative birthing class. i didnt actually get to read the whole book because my copy didnt come in but i read parts and got a good idea of the meaning of it and it was something that really felt good durring my pregnancy. i recomend it for sure!
mariposita 12-10-2004, 12:03 PM I loved, and actually used the techniques I learned from Birthing from Within during labor. I recommended it to a friend who it helped get over her fears associated with childbirth. You might want to ask a local midwife if she has a copy if you're just wanting to look through it and not keep it as part of your library. It's free that way. That's what I did.
Mom2baldie 12-10-2004, 09:09 PM I absolutely LOVE this book! I had a cesarean with my 1st child and when I was planning my VBAC with child #2, Birthing From Within really helped me work through all the negative emotions and fears that I was experiencing. It was probably the best book I read during that pregnancy and I recommend it to everyone! :wink
Bluegrass 12-10-2004, 10:15 PM I loved it, too. I checked it out (*repeatedly*) from my library.
snugglebutter 12-11-2004, 12:27 PM loved the book - loved the class even more!
i think the author takes a VERY realisitc approach
Bearsmama 12-11-2004, 08:53 PM Never took the class, but I read the book prior to my last son's birth. It was really helpful. Non-judgmental birthing choices, etc. Helped me get in touch with what I really wanted out of my last birthing experience. I would give it a big :thumb
