Hey everyone! Hope you ladies all had a nice weekend. I was up early with DD both days, but then got to have a nap with her which was sooooo nice! I also went for a long walk with her to the park, and the exercise felt good.

Question of the Week: Well, this is going to sound silly but...what kind of maternity undies do you prefer? I do have a reason for asking, lol.

I know one of the owners of LunaPads from my old LLL group. She recently sent me a sample (a second) of lunapanties, undies with a built-in pantiliner. They promote them for pregnant women (among others) to deal with PG discharge. But they don't make a maternity brief style. They just have regular brief, bikini, and thong. The bikini is promoted for the PG mama.

During pregnancy, I prefer brief style. I cannot stand having a band of clothing cutting across my belly, and the bikini style also happens to be right where my CS scar is (although I don't think that's the main factor, as I didn't like that style even before DD was born). The lunapanties brief style is not maternity, so it would cut right across my middle: not comfy. But the bikini style is not going well for me either.

Anyways, she asked for feedback and I'm going to suggest that they make a maternity brief style (ie. full belly and butt coverage), since not all PG women like bikini style. I figured I'd do an informal poll of you ladies, to see if I'm not alone in this.

Am I the only one who can't stand having fabric cutting anywhere across my pregnant belly? Am I the only one who likes the full, grandma-style coverage of a maternity brief?

:D

QOTW: I don't like things cutting across my belly either, but my regular panties (pretty much a standard bikini style) have been working fine so far (and worked for me through my entire preg. w/ DS). I just wear them under my belly. I would really not enjoy having panties to pull up *over* my belly. A lot of my maternity pants have the low, under the belly band (which I am just loving by the way, didn't make these when I was preg. w/ DS either!) ... and obviously over the belly panties would be kind of goofy w/ under the belly pants ;)

QOTW-
Piglet, I like briefs, too. I wear these microfiber ones that have a lot of stretch, but bounce back into shape when off. They give really light belly support, and I am in love with them. They aren't maternity ones, though. I just bought them at the department store in a size XL. They go up to right around my navel. I don't know how, but they never fall down. Ahhhhh, comfy. I think they are called "Barely There" or something.

ETA: in my last pregnancy, I gave up in the last month or so and went commando. I was sick of my underwear not fitting me right. It was pretty liberating. ;)

Well, I am off to my first-ever chiropractic appointment. I'm kinda nervous. But I have been waking up SO sore lately, and getting more sore throughout the day. I need to go. Plus, I have been in several bad accidents (one where I went through the windshield) and I am sure my back is all messed up. My MW speculates that this could be part of the reason dd never engaged in my pelvis....my spine was too misaligned to allow her entry into the pelvic inlet. We'll see. :) I'm excited to go.

I had a nice weekend. Took the boys to a parade on Saturday. IT was the rodeo parade and ds#1 LOVES horses. Then yesterday relaxed the day with dh and went to the drive-in movie theater last night. We saw Shrek 2--pretty good, and Envy--really stupid.

QOTW: Well I have never used or bought maternity underwear. I just continued using my reg. underwear, cotton bikinis, and then replaced the ones that got stretched out during pg with new ones after I had the baby. I am not into the grandma style and can't stand anything cutting into my belly as well. I have low rise cotton bikinis which come up to just under my belly, very comfy :thumb

Hello Mama's!

QOTW: I prefer stuff that goes under the belly. I have some super low cut maternity underpants from old navy. It covers just the up to the pubic line. There very comfy! Super low riders. I don't like having my belly covered up. I prefer the maternity clothes that go under belly as well.

Well, I have had to totally revise my workouts recently. They have just been exhausting me! I now do 20 minute arms with weights Mon. and Wed. and hips buns and thighs Tue. and Thurs. I'm going to try to still do Taebo on Fridays, but we'll see. All that, and my 3 yo boy should be plenty! Anyone else recently have to do some switching around?

Checked out a couple of houses this weekend. Fell in love with one! Hoping everything comes together OK!! If it's meant to be, it will, The Universe Provides ;)

Had a fabulous weekend. Even though I didn't get my big chance to go off on my own I still had a very relaxing weekend. Dh felt so bad for me that I didn't get to Massachussets that he's pretty much tbeen taking Alias on outings all day. So I've been enjoying some very relaxing and quiet days and still getting the family time in the evenings. Dh keeps telling me how well rested I look! I've two more days of this luxury (Dh goes back to work on Wednesday) and then it's back to normal. Although I have my MIL and GMIL comming in a week and a half for a ten day visit so it'll only be routine round here for only a short while.

I am having so much trouble sleeping. Fortunately it's not the dreaded insomnia but I just can not get comfortable! And like Katie, I am so sore and achey in the mornings. That, combined with very sureal dreams, has made for many a night of tossing and turning. I really have to get a massage. It may help.

QOTW: I'm in the bikini camp too. When pregnant with Alias I wore my cotton bikinis the whole time and never felt uncomfortable. And so I'm doing the same this time around. I do have to buy a bigger size when pregnant though as my ever widening pregnancy bum won't fit into my regular undies after 4 months. I'm intrigued by the lunapad underwear. They sound like a really good idea. I'll have to check them out.

momadance - Good luck in the house hunting. :fingersx: It sounds very exciting.

Hey everyone! Bikinis here as well, cause to me they don't cut across the belly. I can't even stand maternity clothes that come up over my belly, I don't want anything touching it.

We had a pretty good weekend. It was really hot here in Portland, so we drove to the beach where it was a lot cooler, but still sunny. Logan had a blast digging in the sand w/ his new shovel and pale. It was so nice to just lay on a blanket under an umbrella and listen to the waves. We also made a bonfire saturday night which Logan was thrilled about as well. It was so cool. We were exhausted after it was all over and slept good last night.

Last week I didn't post cause I was feeling like crap and Logan was having major sleep issues, which he seems to be over for now. I knew if I posted it would be all complaints. I'm really scared I'm gaining too much weight, and I hate that I'm worried about it. I have to really watch what I eat. I've been craving sweets and carbs and just giving in, cause I'm pregnant.

And Amy - just wanted to say you've been in my thoughts as well, and I really hope your MIL steps up to help more.

talk to yall later,
Courtney

23 weeks

I miscounted and kept posting 21 weeks last week, but I was 22, lol. I can't believe in just two more weeks my little boy will be "viable". Seems like a big milestone.

Well, you guys have all succeeded in making me feel like a prudish old lady, lol. I just can't handle the bikinis...guess I'm the odd one out, lol!

But, it don't matter b/c I scored a "rainbow six pack" of light mama pads from Hidden Pearl Creations at their recent stocking. Should have them in a week or two, I hope. It's definitely time for "regular protection". 'Nuff said. :)

A chiropracter sounds heavenly. I'm so stiff these days. For some reason, the last 2 days DD has been having nursing marathons in the morning. Usually she wakes, nurses for a few minutes, then gets out of bed. Now she wants to nurse for ever. I did manage to get comfy enough (by switching sides of the bed with her) to nurse her an extra hour this morning, so I got to sleep in with her until 8 am (she's usually up around 6:30). So it seems I'm trading longer sleep for increased stiffness. Sigh!

Funny story: I met a lady at the playground yesterday with a 3 yr old DD and 10 month old DS. Spacing same as mine will be, etc. She said her tip was "get a double stroller now". She said she waited and regretted it. I asked her what she was planning on doing before she got the double (thinking she was going to mention slinging) and she says she thought her DD woudl just walk, or they'd push two... oh my. I'm sort of kicking myself for not mentioning it to her, but I plan on slinging baby and pushing DD in one stroller. I slung her for 8 months, so I don't see why I can't do it with this guy. This lady kept having to put her son in the stroller and wheeling it all over the playground to attend to her DD. I hope to set a good example by slinging DS and being able to play with DD at the same time! :D

Good news. :) Well sorta LOL. I have a UTI. Quite a nasty one, in fact!! I had no symptoms....no pain, no blood, no fever. The most I've noticed is today and last night I had a little more urgency to pee but that's it, and I figured that could be from drinking lots of water. But it's some rare bacteria strain, one of the reasons I think the results took so long! But I'll be on antibiotics this evening. :) We finally know the cause of my labor!!! :D

Even MORE good news. I haven't dilated any more, nor effaced any more, and the baby moved back up. :banana So I am quite relieved. It's funny, I woke up this morning and actually FELT different...like things inside had gone more back to normal. I am SO happy. That Cranactin must really work for helping ward off infection, at the very least it slowed my nasty one down. I'm still on bedrest for now. MW said to stay fairly strict for another week or two, and as time goes on go ahead and keep trying more things. Still no sex, exercise, etc. for a good while, she said to wait til at least 28 weeks (I think I'll wait til more like 32 if I can stand it for safety sake). But at least even now she said if I want to run to the store or go out to eat, it's ok...but don't do the all the grocery shopping. And I measured right on schedule, baby's heartbeat was great, etc.

As far as MIL, who knows. She acts like nothing happened. :eyesroll Ah well. I'm not one to just be mean or something, but it changes some things, you know?

QOTW: I bought some over the belly undies last pg bc the pants that went over my belly from Motherhood had cheap seams that irritated me. I didn't like them and didn't wear them for long. In the end I stuck with my regular VS bikinis and some bravado bikinis. I don't like things on my belly when I'm pg, and I remember pulling my over the belly pants down often. Plus, now that I am in FL, the idea of extra layers anywhere is assinine!! I'm wearing Motherhood bikinis now, a little bigger than my normal size, and wow they are the most comfy ones I've ever worn and dirt cheap!!! (4 for $13) But everyone has their own preferences. :)

Katie, hope the chiro visit does you well, I can't wait to go again. Just so you know, you might end up feeling a bit icky tonight...after my first visit, I felt a little weird and icky that night, but only the first time. :) But man my back felt great, I actually felt taller!! (and might have been since my pelvis was crooked LOL)

mirthfulmom - glad you have been able to have a mini-vacation after all.

Courtney - glad things are a little better at home!!

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers. :love

QOTW- Bikinis for me too, I'm with Stanleymama...with Dd I wore my regular underwear the whole time, and bought an extremely cheap bikinis in a bigger size (as in a dollar a pair) near the end, those are the ones I am liking best right now since they are so thin and it's so hot. I just couldn't justify $12 a pair maternity underwear, which is all I could find. This time I do have one pair of Bravado maternity bikini that I got for 1/2 price but honestly they are nice and all (and match my Bravado nursing bra, in the black w/leapord print :Sheepish: ) but they aren't that different from my regular ones...maybe I'll appriciate them more later.

Lucysmama- hope that you enjoy your chiropractor visit...I'm sure that you'll notice a huge difference in how you feel a couple of days from now.

Momadance-hope the house that you fell in love with is meant to be yours!! I totally believe you will get it if it is meant to be...I'd always liked our house (from the outside, I'd never been in it) and one day when we were driving by I thought to myself, I wish that house would be for sale and low and behold a week later saw a sign out front. We came and saw it and it couldn't have been more perfect for us.

Amy- Sorry about your MIL...I know I can't totally relate to your situation but I do know the feeling of being second rate, my MIL found a new man and a new family it seems and that she's too busy for us. She was my doula for Ember's birth and has no interest it seems this time...I know this is nothing considering what you are going through, I just mean to tell you it is OK to feel snubbed and to want to punish her by making her wait to see the baby.

Piglet- I wanted to tell you that you can go ahead and add Kai as Oakley's mn...I am pretty sure that's gonna stick, I've been telling people that and DH hasn't protested (not that he would because he came up with it :LOL) so I guess that means that he's certain.

LOL, I can't remember if I'm at 25 or 26 weeks, talk about preggo brain. I'll have to check the calendar.

Amy - I've been thinking about you to and I'm glad to hear that you've been taking it easy and that you are feeling better.

QOTW - I also hate having fabric across my belly. I wear my regular bikini and brief undies without a problem. I'm also loving this new style mat pants. They certainly didn't have them 8 years ago when I was pregnant with my son!

I have my own question of the week. How's your libido these days? I ask because mine is suddenly through the roof. I was so not interested in sex these last few months, too tired and too sick, and now here I am almost at my third trimester and I'm all over dh, lol! He's not complaining though, lol! I've been feeling good and energetic in general too. I don't remember feeling this way with my other pregnancies either. I remember being so focused on impending motherhood that sex was low on my list of things I wanted to do. It's very different this time. I was also sicker with this pregnancy than my others too. It's funny how different each pregnancy can be.

Wow, there were two new posts in the time that I wrote mine so now I have more to say :LOL

Amy :hug I am so relieved that you have some answers (not that you have a UTI though, he he). It's great to know that there was a cause and is now a treatment, and it's great that your body is already feeling better! :twothumbs Crazy how you can have no symptoms like that, and good for us all to know and be aware of!

Piglet, I noticed that about your weeks...made me really :scratch because we are only a few days apart (and mentally I think of the 18th as my dd because of my earlier u/s but officially the midwife is still using the 21st) but I didn't want to point it out.

Courtney- I am glad to hear that you had a nice weekend and things are better, but feel free to vent away when you need to too, we won't hold it against you....promise :hug

Kathy- I've wondered if my sex drive this time has to do with me having a boy, :LOL, you know...extra testosterone making me want it as often as a man! :bag: I think that the fact that I am, er, much easier to please has something to do with me wanting it more often...not sure if this will last so I might as well take advantage of it :blush Unfortunately DH doesn't seem to want it more than usual. :irked: Last time I did go through periods of want it, but there were also dry spells, unlike this time so far at least.

I forgot to post my weeks too ... I think I'm 24? *lol* apparently the preggo brain is contagious! ;)

Amy, I am *so* glad that things are going better. Hope the UTI heals up quickly and that the next few weeks are wonderfully uneventful for you :) :)

06-21-2004, 04:36 PM
Hooray Amy! It's too bad about the UTI but what a relief to know what was going on. Hope the infection heals up fast! And I'm thrilled to hear that the baby seems to be doing just great. As for you MIL, I think you have the right attitude. There are some people in our lives that we have to just accept and work around. They're not going to change so why even bother wasting precious time being angry. Easier said than done I know, :eyesroll I constantly struggle with this around my relationship with my mom.

Courtney - Hey vent away! That's what we here for. Hope this week goes better for you :hug.

Sex drive, eh? You know I went thru about 2 months of just being reved up all the time. But the last week, I feel like I just can't be bothered. One factor is that I'm getting so big that I feel uncomfortable and self-conscious. Another is that Harrison is practically always moving, and nothing kills the mood like having the baby kicking at Dh during our more, ahem, romantic moments. And lastly, while Dh insists that he dosen't think I'm unattractive, he just isn't turned on by a pregnant belly (we had this problem with the last pregnancy too). So to get Dh excited enough to actually move things into the bedroom takes way more effort than I'm willing to put in right now. My guess is that there won't be much to speak of in the sex deptartment for quite awhile. Boy I hope this dosen't come off as too bitter.

Piglet68

I'm so thrilled to hear your good news, Amy!!!

Yah, the sex drive thing during the third trimester really threw my DH for a loop. He would lose the mood when baby started moving, lol. But this time around he said he wouldn't be so foolish as to pass it up when he knows there will be at least six months of "don't come near me" after baby is born, lol.

EmbersMom: your comment about the matching bravado bra and panties with that hilarious smilie made me laugh out loud!! :D

Hi Mamas,
I'm w/ Courtney about this last week being really tough. I've had a lot going on, but I felt like I would be so whiney, I just couldn't bring myself to write it all down.
We've been in the midst of a family crisis...they found 7 suspected brain tumors in my g-pa. This past week has been a flurry of frantic phone calls, plane flights, stress and worry. Turns out they are not tumors, but some sort of rare fungal infection. Sounds pretty gross to me, but sure beats brain cancer! Hannah has renewed her interest in nursing, esp all through the night. That, on top of being so worried and now finding it hard to get comfy in bed, has led to lousy nights around here. My dreams are so intense and vivid, when I do get to sleep, I wake up feeling emotionally wrung out.
I feel so huge all of a sudden, off balance, and really achey and sore. Saw the chiro today, which really helped. Lucysmama, hope it helps you, too. My first few appts, I felt terrific initially....then a headache set in. My chiro said this wasn't unusual, just so you know.
QOTW: I don't like anything cutting across my belly...so it's either tiny bikinis (which aren't fitting so great anymore) or big ol' granny undies. Last preg., I wore my usual guys until they were ready to pop and then moved into the big granny ones. Then, like Lucysmama, just went w/o any once it all just got too irritating. :blush
Piglet, funny you mention the double stroller story. Everyone IRL keeps bringing them up with me, '"what kind are you getting?", "why don't you want one?", "how will you live w/o one?". I don't want to lug a huge thing like that around w/ me, besides the fact that I doubt I will ever use it much. We rarely use(d) one w/ Hannah. I keep wanting to suggest to my worried and concerned friends/family that if they want to make my life easier, they could help me buy a king sized bed. ;)
Amy, so glad to hear you and the wee one are feeling better! What a relief. :twothumbs Too bad your MIL is such a putz. Phooey on her!
Well Hannah, my napping lap mate for the past hour, is waking...so my 'puter time must end. Hoping everyone gets some good, restful sleep soon!

sex?:scratch I seem to remember participating in something like that about a month and a half ago :bag: I have NO sex drive.. While Pg with DS I was the complete opposite. Now I never want it! Good thing Dh is super busy with work, school and fitting in time with Ds, or else he might even notice~!

Lucysmama

Sex....? I'm with momadance. I vaguely remember doing something that involved dh and I nekkid, but it was a looooooooooooong time ago. I just have NO libido. I am actually a little skeeved out by the idea of it right now. That's how NOT into it I am. Dh is cool, but I know he wishes I was more into it. Last time, we did it like rabbits starting at 38 weeks trying to soften my cervix with the prostaglandins. So I guess we can count on that again, at least.

New here and thought I would just chime in.

I am actually wearing thongs :D
I only started wearing them like a month before I got pregnant. I like it because there is no panty-line and some of the maternity pants I have pull pretty tight on the butt.

I would love to have a pair of those lunapanties, but I thought they were kinda pricey and well I have no money.

I also just wear any underwear I had that were a bit stretched out before getting pregnant.

Hi All-We DID IT!!! :banana We bought a house in Mukilteo, WA (about 30 min or so north of Seattle)-a very looonnngg way from Iowa that's for sure! It's awesome and has a great view of the Pugent Sound (small view but one never-the-less!) We move in about Aug 3. It's quite the relief to have one hurdle taken care of, now we just need to sell our house, find a midwife and get DS registered for school....it never ends ;)

As for panties...I just buy a bigger size of regular briefs and in the end they are a huge size of undies-but what are ya gonna do? LOL I tried maternity ones and they always went up my bum-yuck!

Lots of kicks lately that really have some wallup-surprised the heck out me sometimes!
Have a great week!

23 Weeks

Welcome Mom2Lily! :innocent

Happy Monday, ladies! I've been out of the picture the last week since we had our big move on Friday. We finally got our internet up late on Sunday night, but I was just too exhausted to check in.

Amy - I was so scared for you and so relieved that a cause was found; do take it easy for a while - guess those sticky vibes worked for you in the interim!

Our new house is just awesome - it still needs a lot of TLC but we're looking forward to all of the projects we can take on between now and October. The neighborhood is perfect, too. We have a small park located two doors down and there's a great mini-neighborhood just two blocks away with restaurants, coffee shop, movie house, etc. We're so excited.

The only damper is that our financing plan has fallen through a bit - we were going to originally put down 5% only so that we could use some of the proceeds from the sale of our old house to get us through when I'm out on leave from work. Now the lenders want 10% (long story) so we're looking at needing to scrape up a good deal more cash - dangit. :bang Oh well - such is life.

QOTW: I like anything super stretchy - like microfibers and Hanes has one that I think is 'Barely There'. I typically like the french cut but have recently bought some of the bikinis for when belly gets too big.

Hope you all have a wonderful week!

OakEmber

Ann- Congratulations on the house :balloons sounds great!

Karin- Sorry to hear about your grandpa and all the stress you have been going through, glad it didn't turn out to be brain tumors!

Piglet-Thanks for adding Oakley's mn! And I am glad you got a good laugh out of my smilie, it's always fun to try a new one...what amazes me is how I can still seem to find new ones even though I've looked at them hundreds of times :LOL

OK so I have officially had a bad mommy night...it's been sooo hot today and I am cranky, I've seriously been pouring myself a cold glass of water (from the water tank) adding a couple ice cubes and watching them melt within a matter of minutes and I have a girl who refuses to go to sleep even though she didn't nap today and was falling asleep at 5:00 and spent an hour crying about a teddy that she left at a friends :crying :bang :shake I totally lost my cool with her and now I feel awful, sigh.

It's five thirty am and I'm up with insomnia. My mind always seems to decide to occupy itself with stress thoughts during these pregnancy-induced nightwakings of mine. I'm jealous of all you guys who are buying houses. We bought a place, but have to sell it now before we even move in (long story). Yes, we're making a nice profit, and we'll be debt free because of that, but still starting from scratch in many ways. We're once again apartment hunting and I'm just so tired of it all. Tired of the "no pets" (my cat does nothing, what is the big deal!), tired of temporary accomodations, etc....

oh, ignore me. i'm just being hormonal. i think i'll head back to bed and see if i can't sleep. figures when dd is finally starting to sleep through the night regularly, it's ME who is having teh nightwaking issues.

21 weeks 3 days

I FINALLY had an ultasound last night.... just one baby in there and it's a

GIRL :storkgirl

Piglet: I hope you get lots of pleasure and joy out of adding that to the database. :sunshine We don't know what the name is yet. DH came up with his top names last night and I will make a list today and we will compare and see.
Everything looked great on the ultrasound, so that was a relief. This may sound silly to some, but I get a great sense of relief from knowing my baby has 2 arms and 2 legs and 2 kidneys and a stomach and all that.

Amy: I am sooo happy that your contractions are gone and that the preterm labor was due to a UTI, which can be fixed really easily. That is great news, and I am glad your UTI is clearning up.

Ann: Congrats on the house!

Lucysmama: I hope your chiro visit went well and you feel better now

Karin: I am sorry about your grandpa and all that stress. We are thinking of and praying for you.

Welcome Mom2Lily... :welcome:

QOTW: I never had maternity underwear. I just wear my same old stuff, which is mostly bikini or brief style. I just have the elastic underneath my belly. That is how I wear all my elastic pants, shorts or whatever, I just keep it underneath my belly, so I will still wear my elastic shorts, pants and skirts right up until I deliver probably.

Libido: Mine has picked up recently. In the first trimester it dropped just a slight bit, but lately it has picked up some. Probably still not as high as some people, but for *us* it is more often than usual. :throb

Piglet: I'm right there with you on insomnia! I can't stop thinking about this house, and buying a house. I toss and turn, and while I'm up and at 'em, I feel like I'm going to puke thinking about what a huge step it is. My sister laughs at me. She thinks it's funny I'm 25 and on my second kid with an absolute nonchalant attitude, and freaking about home ownership. She's in her 30's and the opposite.

Hooray truebleux :D
Hooray annr33 ;) send me some good house buying vibes. I had been wondering where you were!

Lucysmama: How'd your visit go? I go friday, with a massage as a follow up! I go about every 6-8 weeks. What technique did they use? I'm a big upper cervical fan(ao, or nuca). Much gentler!

Embersmom, I was a irritated mama last night too! Dh hasn't really been home since Sunday night, and Ds won't see him till tomorow night (unless we meet for a quick lunch) I swear, Ds was trying to irk me! Then I'd say something completely not like me "PLEASE knock it off" in that tone where you sound like your using ALL your power to remain patient, and he'd look at me and calmly say "Mommy, don't talk like that." What a stinker. Don't feel guilty about it!

ameliabelia congrats on the girl. I've recently been wanting to get an US. But I know it's only due to the uncertainty of looking for a home!

Where in the world is Letia?

:shy can you mama's send me some good home buying vibes? Nothing's more powerful than a preg. mama! :D

Momadance- :dust Hope everything goes well with your house!

I know what you mean about home ownership freaking you out. Dh and I rent right now. We are thinking of moving back to Olympia, WA soon...who knows when/if we will ever buy a house.

Ann- Glad your visit went well! Congrats on the house!

Amy-Glad you just have a UTI! (That sounds weird, but considering the alternative....) I get them ALL the time, they can be such a PITA and cause so many problems.

Amelia- :banana YAY!!!! Congrats on your daughter! You must be thrilled! :banana

Piglet- I find that I still nightwake at 4:00-5:00 am because my dd always woke then. Now that she is sleeping pretty well, it's such a pain. But after 28 months straight of getting woken up at that time, my bod is just used to it, and wakes up. (I usually have to pee anyway these days, so it's ok.) Maybe you just aren't used to sleeping straight thru the night anymore?

To everyone who asked, my chiro appointment was ok. I didn't get adjusted, it was just a consultation and exam and testing. I was really :irked: because he wouldn't discuss my results with me, I have to go back tomorrow to discuss them, and THEN make an appointment to get adjusted. I'm just like, "Pop my back already, dude!" I am sooooo sore. I have been having sciatic nerve problems, too. On the good side, the practice has 9 or 10 pregnant women getting care, and the chiros really want them to have quick, healthy births. They thought it was great I am HBACing. The female chiropractor (it's a husband/wife) also had an unnecessary c/sec and she plans to HBAC with my mw someday too. :) So I am glad they understand how important it is to me to be at optimal health for my homebirth.

Hope you guys have good days....

and speaking of bad mommy moments....I snarled at dd last night in the middle of the night. She was crying and whining about "wanting to go home" (I'm sure she was just dreaming and confused) and after 10 minutes of trying to convince her that we WERE at home in bed, I snapped. :guilty I spoke harshly to her, snarling, "Lu...GO...TO.....SLEEP!!!" in a mad way. :guilty She burst into tears, of course. Being a mama to a toddler is really hard when you are so hormonal. I definitely have a shorter fuse.

Amelia, congrats on the GIRL!. You are right: adding to my list makes me happy :nut

Good question, momadance: where is Letia?

Lucysmama: I'm sorry but I had to laugh at your comment "pop my back already, dude!", lol...this insomnia is totally new and just showed up with this pregnancy. It actually hasn't happened in some time now, I thought I was past it. I wake up at about 2:30 am to pee, and then can't go back to sleep. Maybe it was in part due to the stress of getting close to moving and having to find an apartment, etc. I hate apartment hunting. I just want to find a place NOW (even though we are 3000 miles away, lol). Luckily the rental market is totally saturated with listings right now. We'll likely just take a walk in the neighbourhood and find a place that way.

Don't have much time, but it seems like we've all had a rough week!!!

Another twist to my story....I'm allergic to all the antibiotics that are considered safe during pregnancy that can fight the strain of bacteria I have :eyesroll ....so we decided since I had no leukocytes in my urine yesterday, I'd double up the cranactin til Thursday and retest. I'll keep you posted LOL.

Glad I am not the only one having bad mommy moments! I guess that it would be unrealistic to think that we could glide through our pregnancies without any hormornal disturbances...I guess I should consider myself lucky that it has taken this long to catch up with me!

Amy- Goodness woman...nothing else, OK?!! Just kidding ;) But seriously...hope this is all behind you soon, good to see that you still have a sense of humour about it all!

Amelia- Yeah another girl! Congrats :girlpin. Aww, sisters, I'm a little jealous :D

Yes, I was wondering where Letia is too...hope all is well.

:OT
We got and airconditioner today! :banana Yay! Now I shouldn't have as many heat induced crabby nights at least!

Oh and I heard a name at the beach that I thought was cool, incase any of you are still looking- Torren (or Torrin/Torin, etc.) Maybe one of you will like it. :) Was a boy but really it could go either way, definately more masculine though at least to me.

Went to the mw today. Is anyone else measuring ahead of schedule? I know when we conceived, but I'm measuring 3 weeks (at or in 27 weeeks) ahead of schedule. Mw was very nonchalant about it, but that seems like an awful lot to me. What do I know though?!

06-22-2004, 07:48 PM
momdance, I am sorry you are having so much worry about the house. Moving and everything is sooo hard. Good home buying vibes coming your way.

I have never measured ahead, but I have heard lots of other people say they measured ahead. I don't think it really means anything other than as we get further along in pregnancy eveyone is different and grows at different rates. If she isn't concerned, I wouldn't be, but anything a little different is always stressful :hugs

I think we will need home-selling vibes. We have a house we want to live in KY. Some friends from church offered us a free house to live in for as long as we need (we are trying to save money and eventually go abroad and work with the poor for a few years and do missionary and social justice work). So, we need to sell our house and DH needs to find a job up there. That is pretty stressful, but I am not too worried. Having a free place to stay really allows him to find a lower paying job without our bills being so strained.

Being a mama to a toddler is really hard when you are so hormonal. I definitely have a shorter fuse
That is sooo true. I have been having a hard time with being patient lately. Especially when DD is nursing, it just drives me crazy, but other times are hard as well. Thankfully DH is home a lot now since it is summer (he is a teacher) so that helps TONS

Amy, I still thinking about you, and I hope that everything is fine. I am sure it is. I am allergic to lots of antibiotics too, I am sure your body will heal the UTI just fine without them.

Oh, and we picked a name: Greta Marie (so Piglet, you can have more fun adding that as well :wink)

Okay, I'm beginning to feel the third trimester. We went to the pool near our home today for a family swim. We had a fabulous time but it's about a 20 minute walk to the pool. And boy oh boy, after the walk there, the swimming (well mostly just kinda squating in the shallow end while Alias kicked and splashed) I was really feeling the baby weight on the walk home. Hard to imagine that I'm only going to get bigger and heavier.

I have been having my "bad" mommy moments as well. I'm chalking it up to heat and hormones. Does anyone else feel like they're packing around a small oven? I can't believe how easy it is for me to break into a sweat! On Father's Day poor dh had to finninsh making his Father's day pancake breakfast because I was getting so over heated standing at the stove. I'm going to have to be very careful I don't dehydrate.

Oh Amy... what next? It sounds like you're taking this all in stride though. I hope the whole infection heals up quickly.

Amelia - Hooray! Another girl. That is so great! Congratulations. And love the name Greta Marie, it's a very classical sounding name.
And I'll send some house selling vibes your way too. Here's hoping that the buyers come soon and make an offer above the asking price!

momadance - I'm measuring a week ahead this pregnancy. With Alias I was measuring almost two weeks ahead by the third trimester (and he was ten days overdue). I don't think it means anything. Some of us just carry a lot of baby.

Her name is Heidi Marie (yes we used the same middle name, my middle name is Marie too LOL). So they will be Heidi and Greta, kinda a Germanic theme here. Our last name is Germanic sounding, so we wanted something that would flow well with that.

Amelia, I love your name :) It's very sweet ... I have a girlfriend names Greta that I just love, so it has all kinds of warm and fuzzy connotations for me.

I'm definately feeling winded more quickly too. We were at a Solstice party last night and were dancing and drumming and I had Ethan and another little boy spinning around me and dancing with me, and I had to bail pretty quickly. I was worried that I would be sore today, but I felt fine when I woke up. Sure slept like a rock last night though! *lol*

I've also had my bad mommy moments :( Usually of course, when I lose it, it has little to do w/ the actual even that spurred it, and when I calm down I feel so badly that E. felt the brunt of my frustration about something unrelated. But he has also been *really* challenging lately. I've been reading Siblings Without Rivalry, which is writted by the same people that wrote How to Talk So Kids Will Listen... (which I really liked too) ... and it reminded me of some basic techniques that I need to keep in mind when dealing w/ DS. It just takes *so* much more energy and creativity to be a positive parent than to be grumpy and a "because I said-so" kinda mama, yk? *sigh* I *know* it's worth it, but some days it really seems like such hard work.

Don't have much to say, except this thread reminded me to go buy new underwear - and I'm so glad I did. It's weird how little things can make you so happy. Congrats to all the house-buying ladies, I'm a little jealous, but mostly happy for all of you! ;)

I went through the hormonal induced bad mommy moments a couple weeks ago. I think I've finally gotten past it. One thing I've really noticed w/ Logan (probably obvious, but oh well) is that he really does mirror my mood. So, I've been extra affectionate and patient w/ him lately and he seems to give it back to me ten fold. He's been so loving w/ the baby in utero lately too.

Anyways, I think I may have a UTI too, I don't know though. We'll see at the appointment tomorrow. I dread being weighed. I know I've been snacking too much. sigh.

And congrats on the girl Amelia! I love the name Greta as well, it does go great w/ Heidi.

And thanks to everyone who welcomed my vents earlier, I may take you up on it :)

I've not stopped by for nearly two weeks now and it's funny to think this morning about how much I've missed this on-going conversation! My husband's parents have been in town from NC and my computer time has been severely limited as we have worked on removing a bearing wall in our house to open up the first floor.

Amelia, I really like the name Greta Marie but had to smile since I'm Gretchen Marie and get called Greta, Bridget, Rachel, Heidi, Gretel, you name it, all the time. Have a fun with your second daughter!

QOTW: I've just been wearing what I have on hand (all bikini) and will replace whatever stretches out beyond repair once these two arrive. I've looked and looked at new undies but just can't bring myself to buy any. I think I'll enjoy buying new ones in October much more since I'll be able to wear them for a lot longer. Ah, simple pleasures like buying new underwear...

I can't, can't, can't imagine being pregnant with a toddler at home. I feel so self-centered right now :bag: it's hard to guess how I would react to someone else's needs, especially someone who is periodically unable to coherently express specifically what they need. My hat goes off to all of you!

We went to our second Bradley class last night. I think they're going to be good but we were somewhat surprised about the discussion related to nutrition during pregnancy. It just seems SO obvious that your baby will only benefit from a good maternal diet. We are primarily vegetarians but have added meat to our diet over the past few months as my need for mega amounts of protein have increased. I know most of America has crap eating habits but we were just surprised nonetheless about how basic the info seemed.

I'm sorry to hear about all the UTIs. I have never had one but can't imagine they are any fun. Good luck resolving them as painlessly as possible!

I love hearing about all the moving, especially to the greater Seattle region. I am trying to figure out a way to convince my husband we need to move out there. My folks live about 30 minutes outside Olympia, my brother and his partner live in Seattle, and my sister and her husband live in Bellevue. I think the best place for us in that region is at a non-profit with offices in Sedro-Wooley and a new facility near Diablo Lake in North Cascades National Park. Talk about isolated way up there! Safe travels this summer!

Karin, I know you have a super community of friends and family in the area, but please do feel free to call if there's anything I can do to help this summer!

No names for our babes yet. We haven't told anyone in real life that we're have one of each and surprisingly, no one has bothered us about names. Most folks are more concerned about whether they'll be identical or fraternal. I, of course, always have way too long of an answer for them.

OH! Piglet, a few weeks ago you said something about egg splitting to cause identical twins being something a woman could be genetically prone to. I agree it does seem that she could be, but I can't recall reading anything that says anything other than identical twins are random. Who knows. Maybe in my next life as a geneticist I'll sort that out.

Yikes this is long! Have a great Wednesday everyone!

Hi all, this is my first pregnancy and everything is going pretty well, I am having a girl! I have to get the 3 hour glucose test tomorrow so that is a bummer. I just got some new undies at victoria's secret, they are having a big sale. I got large (usually wear medium) low rise bikinis and they are working out well although they hardly cover my butt, they fit just right under my belly. I am still wearing my medium bikinis and they are riding low also but are pretty tight.

Hello, KateMary!!! :wave When is your EDD? I'll add you to the list. (I just saw you were 25 weeks, so I"m going to put down Oct 6 as a guess, but let me know and I'll change it)

Amelia, I just LOOOOVE the name Greta!!! Marie is a very traditional name in our family. At least one girl in every generation has it in her name. If we were having a girl, she would be a middle-name Marie, too!

mirthful: well I just looked and you are almost 27 weeks - isn't that technically third trimester?? I had to LOL at your Father's Day cooking thing, that happens here all the time. Sunday is my day to cook dinner, and I also take DD out for the afternoon so DH can have some time alone (since he's home with her during the week). Lately, by the time I come back with DD and prepare dinner, DH ends up having to finish the cooking and dish it out b/c I get so tired and sore...

gmvh: yeah, my first PG was so mellow b/c of no kid around...but in all honesty, I have to say my DD has been great. Mind you, I'm at work all day during the week, so I don't have to deal with it too much. The nursing does get to me sometimes - it hurts when she latches on (reminds me of that first week when she was a newborn and I'd have to curse and count to ten whenever she latched on, lol....). But mostly she's been wonderful, and loves to say "baby Sa-Sa mama TUMMY!"... :love

Yup, only a few days left until I officially move into the third trimester. Where has the time gone? And with the incradibly busy schedule I have this summer it's going to be September before I know it! My MIL and GMIL are arriving next Thursday for a 10 day stay. And on the day they leave I go back to take a summer session class at the U (I've got to finnish this @#$* degree before the baby comes... I've only been working on it since 1993!). So I'll be in class five days a week for four hours every day for 6 weeks. Phew! That should get me good and worn out. Also during class time I'll be having a few friends visiting here during the months of July and August. Then after classes are over we're going on a short trip to Seattle for Dh's cousins wedding. I think I get about two weeks of quiet before Alias begins going to a toddler daycare program for 3 half days a week. And once the official 2 week integration period is over for his daycare I'll be lucky if I get a week or so of quiet rest before our newest little guy arrives. Wow. I think I have too much going on this summer.

Gretchen - I had to laugh when I read your post about being pregnant with a toddler. The only time that it really gets to me is when Alias won't nap. I need him to nap, desperatly. I must have that precious hour and a half all to myself. It's the only me time I get all day. I usually have my worst mommy moments on those no nap days.

And of course... :w KateMary. And good luck with that yucky 3 hour glucose test tomorrow.

Welcome KateMary! Yeah another girl for us (the first like 8 of us to find out were all having boys so we couldn't believe it...girls are finally catching up, not that it's a compitition :LOL...I just thought I'd let the newcomers in on our boards quirks, hehe).

Amelia- Greta is a really sweet name...and perfect with Heidi!

OMG! Congratulations to all our moms starting the third trimester...how exciting, and hard to believe :exclaim

I was really spoiled my first pregnancy...I was a SAHM in training :love I quit working at about the end of my first trimester, partly because we thought we were going to be moving but then it didn't happen, and I would have had the summer of anyway since I was working in a school. I could nap whenever I wanted :D Ok, that's enough bragging out of me but it sure was nice. For the most part it has been nice this time too, Ember is old enough that if I nap on the couch while she is playing or watching TV she's fine...and she still naps most days too, or did while I was in the real tired stage so we'd nap together.

Just got to tell you all about something funny today. A lady who works at our Family Place as the pregnancy outreach worker asked me, from across the room how long I had nursed Ember for...and I was at a loss for words for a moment, didn't expect that I guess, and didn't really feel comfortable shouting 3 across the room :LOL So instead I blurted out " a long time, like triple what most people do" and of course then I felt bad, worrying that it might have sounded condescending (which apperently I can't even spell). Then I walked over and told her, and explained that I'd never really been asked that point blank like that. What I found so funny about it was my reaction, really I was just dumbstruck for a second by it, I didn't want to lie but it didn't seem like something I wanted to share with everyone while they were eating lunch:LOL

hi!

welcome katemary and mom2lily!

trueblue, i'm so glad to hear things have eased up now for you. i told my dh about it too and even he was sending you good vibes! (he hears a lot about the ladies in our "pregnancy group")

courtneyandlogan, sorry to hear you think you might have a UTI too. hopefully it'll clear up quickly.

wow, i'm so amazed that some are starting the third trimester!!! wow! being due at the end of october means i get to hear about most things before they happen to me - it's fun to get excited for everyone!

let's see... i bought my first maternity pants!!! two pairs from old navy. the kind with a thick elastic band that sits below the tummy. they are still a bit too big, but dh's pants got too small so i just take care to make sure they don't fall down. i really like them both - one is a full length pair of jeans, the other is a capri length pair of brown cargoish pants. i tried on a pair of big panel pants and it was ridiculous, the crotch was at my knees.

oh, and of course, QOTW: so far all my panty collection still works just fine for me. they are all bikini types and they sit under my belly (or squish down a bit to ride below it). i will probably buy the old navy maternity panties soon that are really low cut, but i'm hesitating cause i like cotton and they are a blend (though still about 95% cotton if i remember right). i'll probably go ahead an pick up a pack and see if they are comfy. i don't like pants going over my tummy, but i can see how the big panel stuff might be nice when i'm much bigger.

anyway, things here are great. the baby has been getting really active the last week or two... well, maybe it was very active before too, but now i can feel it way more often. dh has felt some kicks now from the outside and was quite impressed watching our fetoscope jump when i layed it on my tummy and the baby gave it a kick!

oh, and from a previous week's discussion i forgot: i use peoples screen names when i reply to them because i feel since i don't share my actual name it's not fair exactly if i use their actual name. after hearing that most people who do share their real names prefer to be called by it, i'll make an effort to start trying to use them instead.

Okay, here's a weird question.
Is anyone else havign to shave/wax their legs more often? I waxed my legs last week and already I have a bit of stubble. Can it be that even leg hair is growing faster because of pregnancy hormones?

bluehalo
06-23-2004, 09:43 PM
Welcome KateMary --- congrats on your daughter :)

Shaving ... I'm finally starting to shave fairly regularly again, so although it seems like I'm doing it all the time, it's still not that often. I shave *maybe* once a month or two during the winter (when no one but my DH sees my legs), and then I coast as long as I can through spring/summer in long skirts 'till I finally break out the shorts *lol*. I shave once a week or so now, but I'm ok w/ the stubble in between, although I know some people would be grossed out by it *lol* Wish I had the guts to say "screw it" and just scare the world w/ my hairy legs all year long, but I'm still too self conscious. Oh well.

Is anyone else noticing more swelling? I've definately noticed a "tightness" in my fingers and sometimes my feet. My wedding rings still fit, but feel snug, so I've been taking them off :( I didn't swell at all during my first pregnancy, so this is kind of weird to me. Anyone I've mentioned it to says it's b/c of the heat. I make sure to stay plenty hydrated, so I just don't know.

We're heading off to West Virginia tomorrow for my husband's big mountain bike race of the year. He's mostly recovered from the 7 stitches he got in his calf last weekend, so hopefully we've gotten all the injuries out of our system and he'll survive this in one piece! Have a great weekend everyone!

Thankyou to everyone who gave me positive feedback on our name choice. I also belong to a yahoogroup email list with a playgroup I belong to IRL and I posted that name choice to them and only one person came back and said they liked. Everyone else never mentioned, so I figured that means they don't like it :lol. Oh well, to tell you truth I don't like a lot of the names they pick for their kids. It is a rather mainstream playgroup, and lots of their kids have very trendy names. Funny thing on names, it seems to me generally that people who are more AP tend to pick more classical, unusual or meaningful names while a lot of people I know who are more mainstream tend to go more for trendy names. Not always true, but generally can be. Has anyone else noticed that?

Welcome to KateMary :welcome I see you are having a girl, CONGRATS!

mirthfulmom, Wow, you do have a busy summer. Sounds fun, but tiring.

flitters, I had to smile reading your post. I remember with DD I was really small, and this stage was just starting to need maternity pants as well, and most of those were too big. My how things change with your second, I really got bigger faster this time. Wonder what will happen with my even later children :lol

Embersmom, that is pretty funny about what happened in the store. I don't think I would know how to respond to that question as well.

Bluehalo: have a great trip

Well, I have noticed a definite increase in the growth of *all* my hair, and my nails, too. It's getting crazy and out of control.
And I've started to notice some late afternoon swelling, as well as extreme exhaustion, on days when we've had a busy morning. It's starting to get pretty hot and humid around here, so afternoons are a good time to sit down w/ your feet up and drink lots of iced RRL tea. :D

Ok I have a question: Anyone struggling with feeling dizzy? It really hit me this morning and is coming in waves. I got up to help the boys this morning and I had to lay down on the floor because I couldn't get my bearings and felt like falling! I guess I could look it up, but I am feeling a bit lazy to do that at the moment.

Next ? Anyone who is not nursing having nipple soreness? Mine just started a couple days ago. I am going to be 23w on Saturday, could they be already revving up for the colostrum?

If anyone can help me out--thanks ladies! You all are the best!!

stanleymama - Yeah I get dizzy spells from time to time. It's because I have low blood pressure. Not dangerously low, but on the low side of normal. So if I stand up too fast, or move too quickly from one postion to the next I get really light headed. Sometimes so much so that I feel like I'm going to black out, never have though. It's funny that I wrote "move to quickly", I am moving so slow now, especially when I stand up, it's hard to imagine that I still have the ability to move fast enough to get light headed.
Other reasons you might be getting dizzy spells... dehydration (I find that I am really prone to them when I've been neglecting my water intake), and mild pregnancy induced anemia.
You definately want to bring this up at your next midwife appointment though, just in case.
Feel better soon!

And I wouldn't say that my nipples are sore, but they definately are more sensitive to the touch. Alias has a nervous habit of pinching my nipples through my clothes while I'm carrying him and it dosen't take much now for me to feel the pinch.

My nips are really sore, too. Actually, my breasts in general. I chalk it up to the colostrum production. I seem to be making a lot. I even leak after a shower! And I can express drops from each breast whenever I want.

Dd is fascinated. She tries to breastfeed, but of course she doesn't know how. So she kind of just puts her mouth to my breast and holds it there for a minute. All of her toddler friends are still breastfeeding, so she sees them do it all the time. I think she really wants to, too. So whenever she sees my colostrum leak out a little, she wants to try it. I let her....and if she is still curious after the baby comes, I am open to the possibility of her learning to actually latch, though I don't know how feasible that is. She seems to "miss" breastfeeding, although she never actually did. It makes me so sad. :(

My hair is growing like nuts, too.

Amelia- I have noticed that about naming. I think I have mentioned before, but I am really fascinated by naming trends, and the way they come about. I really pay attention to everyone's baby's names. The trendy names I hear a lot are all from mainstream parents....Madison, Dylan, Austin, Kayla....and the crunchier parents I know have a Luca, Martha, Alice, and a Wes. Interesting.

Piglet :storkboy :boypin Well, looks like we're having a Boy!

I buckled with all the anticipation, and I am so happy! It was amazing! He was so playful, and MIles loved seeing his baby brother! :love Yipee! No more It! He, Him,! We're thinking his name will be Gabriel. Nothing in stone yet... What a relief to see him! Perfect and right on the mark with the anticipated arrival date!

I'm in shock! I totally thought we were having a girl! :bag:

As far as the dizziness goes I experienced this right around 20 weeks, it's apparently due to the increase of blood flow that's going on right now. At the time I was complaining of it, it was somewhat early. My mw said just to take it slow and easy, drink alot of water, and eat every 2 hours, (small meals with a serving protein) I also have low bp.

Just to let you mama's know, I lit candles last night to pass blessings along to October mama's!

Wow Lucysmama! I only see the colostrum if I work at it. It's amazing that your leaking it! I'd never heard of such a thing! That's cute about Lucy! :D

About shaving, I hadn't noticed, but recently learned preg. women are more suseptible to sunburns due to excess estrogen. I thought that was pretty interesting and a useful nugget for the summer time mama's!

momadance, Congrats on the BOY!! Woo Hoo! That is great! I really like the name Gabriel, that is one name we were thinking about for a boy.

Lucysmama, that is too cute about Lucy wanting to nurse and the colostrum! Aww, you never know, maybe she will figure it out when your milk comes in and you will tandem. It's possible :lol

I feel dizzy a lot a times too, when I get up too fast or whatever. My dd used to like to play ring around the rosy, but lately it is too much for me. Even that game makes me dizzy :lol.

momadance, congrats on the boy!!

Gretchen, I know you think we have it rough being pg with a toddler....but I think we will all be even when you have 2 newborns at once! :LOL

As for the nipple thing, mine have gotten more sensitive over the past few weeks. I'm so glad DS weaned himself (but also really kinda sad, he hasn't nursed in over a week!!! He actually asked once or twice in the past couple days, but given the preterm labor, I did not let him).

Well I'm gonna go watch GH now. Gotta keep on my tv now :rolleyes. I tried doing a little more on Tuesday and the baby was positioned weird and lower again yesterday, so that it was uncomfortable to sit, so I'm trying to take it really easy again. Mom left today, so we're on our own for the weekend, but DS and I are going to go down to her house so she, Dad, and my sis can help us out for a week while DH is underway. Ok I hear it starting, gotta watch my soap!!! :D

I got an email from a mama named "sunshinegal" who is an October mama lurking on our threads. I have added her to the list. So a big hallo! to sunshinegal :wave and I hope you will delurk and come join our gab sessions!

momadance, hooray and congrats on the BOY!. I have to say that Gabriel was on our short list of names. I love the name for a boy! It's strong, and yet soft at the same time. Like a "sensitive man". :LOL

leg hair: I'm like bluehalo, I do it as little as possible in the winter, then try to do it regularly in the summer. I don't mind a bit of stubble, but my hair is fairly light. Still, if I let it grow long it's just toooooo long for my liking! :) I don't know if it's really growing faster, or I'm just noticing it b/c I'm wearing shorts and capris all the time.

nipple soreness: well, I have noticed just lately that nursing DD is driving me a bit nuts. She likes to try to "twiddle" my opposite nipple, or even just lay her hand on it. I just can't stand it any more. If she's quiet nursing, I really still enjoy nursing her. But lately...the last couple of mornings she's been wanting to nurse all morning long (and she's not awakening to nurse at night now..maybe this is my payoff, lol). She fiddles and UGH...but....I have no colostrum. In fact, I can still get some milk out. I didn't have any colostrum leakage prior to DD's birth, either.

embersmom: I had a spoiled first PG, too. I stopped working at about 22 weeks, and really spoiled myself for the rest of my PG. I went to the store every day for fresh fruite and yummy things, I napped all the time, etc...I have to say that it's not as bad as I thought it would be now with a toddler around, but again since I'm at work during the day, and work is fairly laid back, it's not quite the same as being FT SAHM to a toddler while PG!

and yeah, gmvh....you will definitely make up for your "toddler-free" pregnancy when you are dealing with TWO and we're just trying to handle our ONE little newborns. :D

lucysmama: I think that is adorable about lucy. don't feel sad: how many toddlers think it's "normal" to nurse? I think it's great that your DD recognizes it as something "natural" and also that you don't freak out and are so positive when she attempts it. i know some mothers who would send really negative vibes if their kids tried to do that (sad, but true). part of what prompted me to write that is I saw for the UMPTEENTH time this morning the episode of "Elmo's World" all about babies...not only did every baby have a bottle, and not only did Elmo never mention that babies get milk from their mamas, but they even went to a farm and all the baby animals were being fed from bottles!!! grrrr :angry WTF sort of message is that sending??? :rant

okay, enough of that, lol....i'm having a blast preparing a "cloth diapering 101" handout for my PG friend back home in BC (Nanaimo) who is getting ready for her first baby in July. She is so naturally AP by personality but didn't know anything about it. My mom gave her the Sears book and she totally loved it. She's hoping for a gentle, natural birth and I got her a newborn starter set of cloth diapers from Loveybums...she is so pysched to try CDing! So I'm making her this personalized "how to" sheet...fun job for me! :love

Had my OB visit today. All is fine, baby is growing great. And found out that they've changed the GD test so I can actually EAT. Yay!! :banana I was so sick to my tummy the first time I did the GD test with DD, b/c I had to fast from midnight on, drink that soda for breakfast (I don't mind Orange Soda, but not first thing in the morning on an empty stomach!!) and I almost passed out when the sugar levels crashed in my blood. This time I can eat and just have to wait 1 hour before drinking it, and I can do it in the afternoon. So this should be MUCH better!

True Blue

Cool Piglet! My midwife gave me a choice, drink the soda or eat a meal she had planned out with the same amt of carbs or be creative on my own and put together 100g carbs...I'm going to go with her plan. I am soooo hungry in the morning, it sucks to have to fast then only drink soda! Plus, she is going to be the one to draw my blood 2 hours later, rather than me having to sit in a lab the whole time like I did last time. :) I just show up for my regular appt at her house 2 hours after I've eaten.

Baby is so active now! I feel like in the past week its actions have become much stronger. If I lay the remote control on my belly (like I mentioned, lots of tv now!!) it gets bounced all around. Great entertainment. :D

Momadance- Congrats :boystork and what an awesome name you've chosen too!

:hola: Wecome Sunshinegal, I hope you come out of lurkdom...we love getting to know new people.

Lucysmama :hug Try not to feel sad about Lucy...it's great that you let her try anyhow and validate her feelings, I think that's the most important thing.
I am not sure what problems you encountered last time with BF but I hope that things go better for you this time :hug

About the shaving...nope, my hair and nails are growing the same. I am the only oddball? :LOL

About the GD testing...I have seen discussions about it on the pregnancy board but is anyone else here not planning on doing it? I see my midwife on Tues at about 24 weeks so I am sure it will be discussed. I don't feel that it is necessary for me to take so unless she thinks it's important for me specifically for some reason I will be skipping it. Anyone else?

I'm not getting the GD test either. I was really pleased that my midwife offered it as a choice. With my Dr it was just a part of the regular course of prenatal care. But my babies are always in the 7 and a half pound range and I have no history of diabetes in myself or my family so I decided to skip it for the time being. I'm really liking midwifery care!

My kids got to hear the babies hearbeat (154) at my appointment this week. They were really excited about it!

Momadance-Gabe is one of the boy names we have picked out-I've always liked it...We still have not totally agreed yet though. My Dh is terrible at agreeing to anything! My DS wasn't names for 2 days since we couldn't agree- I always have to "see" the babe before I can commit.LOL
We have Haley or Shae picked for a girl. Not sure about middle names yet.
I really like Cade and have for a long time but suddenly it's getting realy popular here-like every weekend in the baby section of the paper there's another one!

I have about 6 baby name bks-it's so sad ;) And I just bought another this week-it was the only one I pd for full price though-at least all the rest were garage sales.

Take care

I was going to ask about skipping the GD test, since I tested negative last time. Doc was aware of the recent study showing a very high second negative rate if you test negative for the first one, but b/c I am an "older mom" and we aren't actually sure of my family history (i'm adopted) he said I really didn't fall into the "lowest risk" category where he would feel good about me not doing it this time.

Then when he told me I don't need to starve myself, drink orange soda for breakfast, and basically end up fainting from a blood sugar crash...I decided it was No Big Deal. I actually like the taste of that stuff, lol.

I decided I'm going to go ahead and take the GD test. They gave me the soda stuff to drink before I come in, so I don't have to hang around the office forever w/ a toddler. The instruction sheet didn't say anything about not eating before hand. It just said bring a high protein snack for after the blood draw. I just found out my g.pa has type 2 diabeties (I don't even know how to spell that word) - so whatever that means.

My prenatal went well the other day, my urine tested clear, but she gave me antibiotics anyways (for my suspected UTI) and sent a sample off to be cultured. To this my dh says "so, when your urine comes back, it'll be really sophisticated." haha, he's such a dork. Anyways, my symptoms are gone now, so I must've had something, who knows. The baby is measuring right on schedule, and the midwife was so nice not to comment on my 10 pound weight gain in 5 weeks, yikes. I was about 12 pounds under my usual weight when I got preggo, so I keep telling myself that. Definitely gotta lay off the baked goods. But I just made some brownies from scratch, and mmm they're so good.

Dh came home sick yesterday w/ a stomach bug and slept all day. I secretly hated him for getting to stay in bed all day. I kept thinking, "he doesn't even try to get better." When I'm sick, I'm up eating saltines and drinking gatorade, etc, and I MAKE myself better cause I know people depend on me. I know it's irrational, but I was about to have a nervous breakdown, having no help at all w/ Logan and just not getting a break. He's fine today though. I couldn't believe how down I felt though. It's rough when there's no family around to help or just to talk to.

I dreamed last night about Zander, and he was so beatiful, looked a lot like Logan. I dreamed that I came home and my dad was caring for him, and I was like, "oh, my baby was born?" In the dream it was 38 weeks. I was kinda bummed that I had him so early. My dad said, "since you were gone, I fed him a bottle of juice with cracker crumbs mixed in." I was like, you fed that to a newborn? Anyways, I started nursing him and just stared at his face. It was so nice, nursing my dream baby.

Congrats on the boy Momadance! I love the name Gabriel too- I think we considered that one too - it's so beautiful and strong.

Oh and Piglet - you can add "Zander Julian" by my name, if ya want - I think we're sticking w/ that.

Gotta get out of the house now, the sun broke through. :)

I'm not taking the GD test either. I don't have a family history, well other than my cousin on my father's side, but she was over weight when she had both her children and she has bad eating habits, very stereotypical American diet of fats and sugars. Plus I had the test when I was pregnant with Alias and there wasn't a problem. So my midwife told me I didn't have to take it again if I didn't want to.

Courtney - I empathize with you 100%. I am always so ticked off at my husband whenever he gets sick (which fortunately hardly ever happens). I always feel so resentful that he gets to take a break while I do all the parental work. I know that the reality is that the man is sick and not on some Tahitian holiday but I can't help calling him all sorts of names in my head as I smile and get him yet another glass of juice.

Kathy - That's wonderful that your kids got to hear the baby's heart beat. It's so great to be able to share some of the pregnancy with them.

Okay, so I'm 27 weeks on Sunday, moving on into the third trimester. Does that make me 6 or 7 months pregnant? I just can't figure it out when people ask me.

True Blue

Pregnancy months are lunar months....4 weeks long....so that would make you almost 7 months (7 months at 28 weeks). Wow I can't believe some of us are so far along!!!!! I'm just dragging here....It feels like I've been sitting around doing nothing forever but it's been just over a week. :irked: Oh well. I've been feeling pretty good so I'm kind of starting to do a little more each day, just gotta see how my body reacts. So far so good. :)

Now a question. My belly has been kind of uncomfortable for a few days, and I think I have figured out why. The baby seems to be transverse at the moment....anyone else's baby like this and does it make sitting and some other positions uncomfortable for you too?

OakEmber
06-26-2004, 12:02 PM
Months have always confused me too...I usually go by weeks but some people do ask in months. I have been saying I am in my 6th month, I thought I'd post the breakdown that is in The Pregnancy Book, by Dr. Sears...maybe it will be helpful for some of you too (I'll start at the 5 month since we all at that point or past).

The 5th Month- Weeks 17-20
6th - 21-25
7th- 26-29
8th- 30-33
9th- 34-40

Ok, so that's what he says but now that I look at it, seems rather confusing, LOL....the last month being 6 weeks. Then again we all know that 40 weeks does not = 9 months!

Courtney- I hope that your Dh is feeling better...it's hard not to feel a bit resentful towards our Dh's when they are sick...I think most tend to milk it anyway :LOL Sounds like a beautiful dream, I wonder if it will turn out to be prophetic...38 weeks sounds good to me, hehe! Zander Julian is great! Glad that you didn't let you MIL ( I think it was her, it was quite aways back) sway you.

Hi everyone! Hope you are having nice weekends!

Dh and I are going to see Fahrenheit 9/11 tonight with some friends. We are pretty excited. :) Dd is going to my MIL's house.

I have been having the most VIVID dreams lately!!! Tons of dreams about the baby, labor, birthing, and sex. (Last night I got it on with Chris Noth-- "Mr. Big" from Sex and the City. :yum) In my dreams, my baby is a boy, but in my awake life, I think it's a girl. Wonder what that means?

Amy- glad you are feeling better! Sorry you are so umcomfy!!! I think my baby is Right Posterior, just like Lucy was. :irked: That is supposedly the hardest to deliver of the head-down positions. I think that's just the "comfy" spot in my uterus. Have you all seen www.spinningbabies.com ? You can read about Optimal Fetal Positioning there.

So yay!!!!!! We are getting so close to our third trimesters! That kinda freaks me out a little, too. :eek

Letia, oh Leeeeeeeetttttttttiiiiiiiiiiiaaaaaaaaaaa? Where are you, girl?

What do you all think? Should I change now or wait...I am so indecisive! I'd hate to think of losing my identity on other boards too though, maybe I should just be Ember&OakleysMom but that's pretty long. Hmm, someone make up my mind for me ;)

Thanks for asking! :love I feel so loved! :grouphug I was checking my pms b/c my buddy from here met me here and I dont have my email set up. Then I decided to look around a bit. I haven't been online til today. I've been so beat up! :p Then I posted about bras...oh man! :eek Mine is really stressed out! It keeps popping! Dh said the right boob which keeps doing it, looks bigger. He said can I pump it to get the milk out or something. :shake Baby's moving quite a bit, even right now. I have gotten some doozeys! I've jumped a couple times. And I bet he wonders what's going on! Especially at the welcome reception Thursday with all the music! He was going nuts! Oh man! I got *two* charlie horses this week! :yikes: I'm not sure if it was from the walking or pregancy or the fact that I was thirsty and felt guilty about asking dh when he was already in bed. I got one last night....I was still a bit asleep. Dh was massaging it out and it tightened again!!!! I was screaming and I remembered him telling me to stop screaming. It was awful! I was concerned. Wrong time since its Saturday;but, dh had one yesterday too while we were at Emerills. Maybe its just the stress on the body. Wow! has there been stress! I look forward to getting home! Well, I guess I'll check yall gals later! I'm hungry! :(

We came back form Fahrenheit 9/11 a couple of hours ago and WOW! Most of the info that was in the movie has been pretty heavily covered in the Canadian press so I wasn't too surprised by what was in the movie but the documentary was still incredibly powerful. I had tears streaming down my face many times. I of course don't want to politicize our thread here but I do heartily recommend the film. Just be aware that with the pregnancy hormones a raging there are some tough parts of the movie to watch.

Thanks for the info Amy and Amie. The whole month thing is so confusing but if I try to answer people when they ask how far along I am in weeks they look at me so confused. I don't blame them. 7 months is much easier to understand than 27 weeks.

You know I was wondering about some of you gals here would be changing your screen names. I guess it would be kind of a tough call since a lot of you are so well known by your exisiting screen name. But for what it's worth Amie, I really like the screen name Autumnbabes.

And I've got a little right posterior babe here too. Alias practiclly spent the whole third trimester leaning off to the right side with his little feet shoved under my ribs. And it looks like little brother is following in his footsteps. I guess the right side of my uterus is all broken in and comfy. I'll definately be taking a good look at the spinning baby web site, thanks Katie. I don't want to go through the 4 hours of pushing during delivery followed by a vacuum extraction again.

WOW. We just saw it, too. It was incredibly powerful. So much not covered by our media here in the US. Of course, I was aware of nearly all of it, as I regularly read other country's news, and read a lot of nonfiction books about the Bush Administration (from both partisan sides). But man. I cried, I laughed hysterically, I was outraged, I was overjoyed. I highly recommend the movie to anyone, regardless of political affiliation. It was mostly footage of news channels, war footage, and Bush footage. So Michael Moore really lets the images speak for themselves, which is very effective. It really is the year's must-see film. I was very moved by a lot of it. :bow to Michael Moore for having the guts to make it.

Thanks Katie! Only prob is they say the couch is your enemy....hard to avoid leaning back when you are supposed to be resting and lying down sometimes on your back with a pillow under your tush to keep the baby up! Now a question. My belly has been kind of uncomfortable for a few days, and I think I have figured out why. The baby seems to be transverse at the moment....anyone else's baby like this and does it make sitting and some other positions uncomfortable for you too?

Funny you mention this, truebluexf, because I am having the same problem, only in the opposite direction. Baby Cookie has been comfortably transverse, and just flipped to an up/down position...and I can barely breathe and my back is killing me! :irked:
She turned while I was in the bathtub on Friday night, and immediately my right leg went numb. It was very scary, and lasted for a few hours. Saw the chiro on Sat morning, and that helped tremendously. But she is still laying up/down and I'm finding it very uncomfortable. Wish she would stay sideways for a few more weeks, and flip head-down just in the nick of time. ;)
I checked out the spinningbabies site, and thought it was chock full of good info. I wish I would have seen this before Hannah was born. She had her arms up by her face, in utero, and was born with her left arm extended above her head. Wasn't a very pleasant experience for either of us, and I wish I would have known what to do beforehand to help her get into a better position for birth.
DH and I tried to go see Michael Moore's movie last night, were really excited it was playing anywhere in our area (not a particularly liberal area), but the line was sooo long. We decided to wait until later in the week, see if it slows down a bit. I'm glad to hear positive reviews of it.
Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. We are heading out to Kansas next week, g-pa stuff again, so I will probably be MIA for a while. Take care and stay cool, gals.

I just know the position cause I had a prenatal a week ago, and my midwife felt the baby's position, and showed me where the parts were. I could feel a hard mass on my right side, the head down right above my pubic hair, and a foot up above my belly button. The baby is still in the same position as then.

Otherwise, I wouldn't have a clue, either....although I could tell for a while now that the baby is head-down, cause I can feel that little round ball there. It is very prominent.

I am having bladder issues. :tiptoe Anyone else? I feel immense pressure on my bladder at all times, and I feel like I have to go about 70% of the time. (Probably because of the aformentioned head.) It is a real PITA, though...I am constantly going to the bathroom, only to get a little trickle. :irked: The baby has also started punhing me in my bladder. I swear I have come within centimeters of peeing in my pants! Is this TMI? Is this normal? I don't remember this starting so early with dd.

I just kind of can tell LOL. Well, when the baby was head down, it was only on one side of my abdomen...one side was much harder than the other. For a few days, I could feel hardness on both sides....like a bum and a head on each side....so I'm guessing transverse, though I didn't have my midwife confirm. But it seems to have moved now. That's funny that one of us was more comfy in transverse....I felt this immense pressure in both pelvic bones when I sat or leaned over....like the head and butt were going to push out through each hip!

I still have to be careful but I feel better knowing I don't have to play around with antibiotics that I might be allergic to or could harm the baby. :) I feel sooo much better knowing the cause of my problems is gone.

I am skipping the GD test as well. I didn't have it with DD, there is no history of diabetes in my family and I am really low-risk for it, so we aren't worrying about it.

When I had the u/s they said the baby was breech, which I could tell since most of the hardest kicks were down low. Then, I felt her flip and be transverse and felt kicks on the side, and now she is head down I think since I feel stronger kicks up higher. The only way I can tell if by where I feel kicking.

Amy, I am glad everything is better!
