Hi everyone,
I'm an Aussie who lives in South Georgia , USA. I am still and always will be an Aussie at heart so I hope you won't mind me joining this tribe! It might relieve a little of the homesickness. My DH is American,so here we are! My DS listens to lots of Aussie music poetry etc, so we don't lose his Aussie side. Can't wait to know you all! :thumb

hi Talia :wave

I have afriend who has been living in NY for many years - I used to send her gumleaves to burn in her apartment! like incense for the homesick... when she comes here with her kids they can't believe there is a whole world of people who speak just like their mum (no we aren't putting it on, we do speak like this :LOL) so I agree having some aussie stuff for your ds is a great idea - I guess you could even order from the ABC shops online for non-wiggles kiddie music? eg Play School and Don Spencer and Noni hazlehurst etc, unless the grandparents maybe send it over!

where are you from?

I was raised in Cairns but went to high school and lived in Sydney, I love that city. I am getting a really great Australian influence for my DS on the weekiend, my brother! He will attend uni here in GA for a semester so that will be wonderful!
Oh how I miss playschool, I just can't wait till DS is old enough to enjoy it! :D

a northerner! I lived in Brisbane for a couple of years after I left school (80/81) but don't think I could manage the heat in Cairns

how good to have your brother close by for a while - but pardon my ignorance, what is GA short for?

play school is such a part of the scenery here isn't it, I remember my youngest brothers watching it as kids in the 70s and some of the same folks were hosting still when my oldest ds watched in the 90s!

I love in Geogia, it is in what they call the Deep South, like in that movie OhBrother Where art Thou. The locals have really drawlly accents and eat really yummy fried Chicken. They are also really into nice and friendly, but things are definitely different in these parts, most people are born and raised and stay in the same town, marry into the "right" socio- circles, so the old ways are pretty much presserved, good and bad, I love living here, if not just for the experience of the unique culture!
:) But Australia will always be home for me.

rereading the thread i see you said you were living in Georgia, sounds like quite a culture shock! but nice and friendly is always good, especially if it includes a ring in from australia

I loved Oh Brother where art thou, my kids like the soundtrack music too

there are a few other Aussies around MDC, dunno where they are at the moment though, probably ogling all the gorgeous diapers in that forum!

Hi Talia and fellow aussies,

I too am an aussie living in GA. I live northwest of Atlanta (Woodstock). It's so lovely when you find out there are other aussies close by. We have a great Australian run bakery :thumb close to us which I visit with my DH and DS (10 months) when I need a reminder of home. Am a new joiner, and excited to get to know other mums/dads. :)
