B.C. college statement tightens its circumcision recommendations (http://www.medicalpost.com/mpcontent/article.jsp;jsessionid=DGCBCJFOFMJF?content=200407 05_193202_5416)

Why can't it be this way (or even a stronger stance) EVERYWHERE??

'and the result is the adult male is denied erogenous pleasure, though I don't know whether anybody will ever know that for certain," he said.'

well, if he had a foreskin, or had messed around with one, it would be pretty obvious! whole penises *work* in a way circ'd ones just don't. to say this is anecdotal is silly; how else are you going to measure pleasure? an erectile meter? there is more to sensual experience than strength of erection, which would only be valid if one measured the same penis before & after circumcision, anyway. at some point you just need to either see for yourself or take someone else's word for it!

other than that, i was glad to see such a strong statement.

Oh, I thought it was Boston College!

Anyway, from the article:

But when you cut through it all and examine it, it appears there is still a small portion of our society that might have been making the decision without being fully informed as to its implications

Ouch!

BTW, "small" segment? Not yet.

Three cheers for Dr. Sendel and his group for saying what has needed to be said officially!

It is great that he also speaks of the sexual damage. This is an area that the medical profession seems to give short shrift and I would have given it short shrift as well 10 years ago. However, the "Band-Aid Experiment" coupled with the positive effects of restoration was enough to convince me beyond a shadow of a doubt that circumcision is sexually damaging.

For those of you who don't know about the "Band-Aid Experiment," this is the way it works: You put a Band-Aid on the tip of one of your fingers for a couple of weeks. At the end of two weeks, remove the Band-Aid and evaluate the tip of the finger for sensitivity compared with the other nine fingers. The finger tip that has been covered will be substantially more sensitive. The foreskin fills the same function as the Band-Aid. It covers, protects and keeps the glans moist just as the Band-Aid does for the finger tip.

At various points in my life, I have done both manual labor, construction type work and corporate executive type work. It was easy to recognize the different states of my hands at those different life steps and I didn't even have to wear the Band-Aid to "get it." It was obvious. The correlation between the protected finger tip and the protected glans was just as obvious and that doesn't even consider the sensations that were lost in the missing foreskin.
