View Full Version : PM Box Full? Here's What To Do!

Have you received a message that your PM box is full? Since you have a limit of 70 messages total you need to clean your files of those you don't need to save.
First of all clean out your Inbox. Inbox comes up as the default folder when you open your Private Messages control panel.

But the key to the cleanup operation is to set the "Show Messages From" menu to "The Beginning"

The default setting is "Last Day" which is why it appears you have no messages in your inbox until you change this setting. With it set to "The Beginning" you can see all the messages in this folder and delete those you don't need to save.
The next folder to clean out is your "Sent" folder.

Once you've opened this you should then select "Show Messages From The Beginning" as you did for your Inbox folder above and delete the saved messages you don't need to keep.
Another folder that might be adding to your space load is your Message Tracking. Just clear out those that have been read by the recipient.

That should do it!

Cynthia, I got an email that the limit on PM's had gone down from 70 to, um, I forget. What's the new magic number? Great explaination and graffics by the way.

Cynthia, that was my problem. I knew how many were in there, but I'd forgotten the new limit. Duh.

Cynthia - I just got an email saying someone was trying to pm me but my inbox is full. However, I only have 4 messages in my inbox (I chose from the beginning), none in sent items, and one in message tracking. ??? What do I need to do?

Here's my question: Someone tried to send me a pm. She wrote a very long message. She tried to send it and received the "pm is full" message. But the system then made the message go "poof!". It disappeared on her, and it never appeared in my mailbox, even after I cleared it.
Couldn't the system be better designed so that the message doesn't just disappear? Could the writer receive a warning so he/she can at least copy and paste the message elsewhere, rather than having his/her words disappear?
My dh is a computer architect/developer and he says it can be done--a simple pop-up telling the writer that the pm box is full would suffice...
Also, on this note--when we reach 34 messages, could we get a warning? I never had one, and had no idea the limit was 35 (I'm fairly new here and never hit a limit before).
Thanks,
Melanie

We do have a pop up box that says the recipient's box is full...I then re-address the PM to me(sending it to myself) so I can send it later.
On the main page where it says Private Messages..it tells you if you have any new ones and it also tells you how many you have in total. :D

I'm not sure what you mean so let me ask...
I *think* you will receive a notification in your email that you have exceeded your PM limit. If you only have 10 total messages you have not exceeded your PM amount.

so if i have exceeded it, then when i sign in i'll see the amount. even if i have exceeded my limit yall are able to put another message past my limit in my box telling me that my box is full? does that make sense?

No, it does not go to your PM box..it is sent by email. It says "In Box Full at Mothering.com" When you open that email it tells who was trying to send you a message. You will not recieve that message even after you clean out your box. You have to ask the sender to re-send it.
Hope that helps..:)

Something to add:
You said you only had 10 messages and it said your pm box
was full. This CAN happen..........you might have only 10 messages
in your inbox. You need to also completely delete out your
sent mail and your PM tracking mail. ANd you must do so
"from the beginning" b/c sometimes you have mail (in or sent) that does
not show up on your screen.
I see now that Cynthia explained that on her first post here...but
just in case!

wannabmommie I placed that new message next to your message totals because I get many emails from people who receive the PM box full notification and ask how to clean out their PM box. :)

OHHHHHH! *Carol of the Bells* I thought it was trying to tell me something at first! I hadn't gotten a PM notice before, I guess I didn't because it wasn't full! :idea
thanks, *now* I'm *really* straightened out now!
