I am looking for ideas... I really like my midwife and would like to get her something special, but I just dont have a clue what that might be.

Ive read about people giving gift certificates for massages, plants, books, gift cert. for a restuarant....but I want to "explore all my options".

I know that I will def. give her a framed picture with a card and then also any birth pictures or video if anyone takes any - (she has a scrapbook of pictures and also lends out birth videos of her clients), but I kindof dont feel like thats enough.

Anyways, if anyone else has given this any thought and has any ideas, Id like to hear them. :shy

I hadn't even thought about it considering my midwife is part of a team at a clinic and I don't even know if she's going to be at our birth or not!!! I guess it's a different situation if you're working with a private midwife.

You could check out this thread. There are a few ideas in there - its not too long. May be if you searched gift(s) in the Birth Forums you would find some more ideas.

Kara,

Thanks for posting that link! I did do a search on the Birth and Beyond board and went ahead and posted on the midwives board also. I am hoping I get a few more replies and if not, Im sure I will eventually come up with something! :)

Jen,

My midwife works alone, I guess you could say. She has other midwives that she will call and arrange to assist with her clients births, but other than illness, injury (or something like that) I am pretty much guaranteed that she will be with me.

I personally have never had a care provider (family practioner, OB/GYN or otherwise) that has actually treated me like a human being, you know - with respect :) and I feel like she is really doing something special for me so I really want to show or tell her in some way how much it means to me.

We sent a gift basket of healthy treats to the clinic.

I dunno... I thought the several thousand dollars I'm giving her in payment would be gift enough. :W

I'm watching this thread because I'd like to get my midwife something nice and kind of personal too.

When my ds was born I gave my midwife a gold chain with a pearl on it. The pearl was because ds was born in June. MW pointed out that pearls are also from the water (ds was a waterbirth). :)

I don't have a midwife but I usually bring cookies and banana bread to my OB's office the last couple of weeks. I also try to bring cookies for the L&D nurses. It's amazing how happy they are when they get food. :) Especially when it's late at night. :)
