i found out from a friend that there's an ob in town who delivers babies at the birthing center. what i hear thru the grapevine is that "she's just like a midwife." this is good news because dh and i can't afford a homebirth or the birthing center and insurance is being a royal pain in the booty about it.

we'd settled on an ob we'd heard good things about. but that meant a hospital birth which i'm not looking forward to unless it's attended by a mw like with dd (but that's not an option anymore.)

i called to find out more and get an appt with her but her office was already closed for the day.

ok. just wanted to share my happiness!! :D

That *is* exciting! If it works out, you'll have to tell me who it is-- that's awesome!

You might be pleasantly surprised! I found out late in my last pregnancy (#2) that my OB will let daddies catch the babes coming out if they want. She said she usually doesn't offer it to first time daddies, as they will most likely say no, but by the second child, they usually say yes! My dh caught DS#2 and loved every minute of it. Of course I missed it because my eyes were closed...but I will make sure to keep them open for the next one! Also, there is only her, and one nurse in the room with us during delivery, so it is sort of like a home birth, but I get the best of both worlds...no clean up for us! Good luck with your OB!!

well, i spoke too soon.

actually, this ob (technically she's a family doctor) does deliver at the birthing center. however, my insurance won't pay the fee to use the center. it's $2400. they won't reimburse anything since it's out of network. stupid insurance.

but, she practices by herself, someone actually answers the phone at her office, and i think i'm gonna see her instead of the ob i was initially thinking about using. if she delivers at the birthing center she's bound to be cool.
