Is vitamin E okay to take while pregnant. As everything says, I should consult a doctor before taking it, but I don't go very often and when I do I totally forget to ask even though I've written it down.

DH really wants me to take it because a good friend of his swore by it during her pregnancy. She had no stretch marks and her skin was very elastic during the delivery so she didn't tear or anything.

So I'm wondering if it's safe to take or not.

TIA

I can't honestly say wheather it's safe to ingest or not (that's a very good question!) but if I were you, I might buy some Vit E lotion or essence to rub on your skin... I know that it's worked miracles for my scars before, and now that I think about it... I may as well just go get myself some now too! :LOL

Vitamin E is a fat soluble vitamin, so any excesses that you ingest are typically stored in fat in your body. Therefore, you should not take too excessive an amount. You can look up the RDA and then take that (or even double it) and that should be a safe amount to take. You can also look up the maximum amount that can safely be taken before overdose symptoms manifest. Be very watchful about taking vitamin E as you lose weight in the future since as fat is "burned", the vitamin E will be released into your bloodstream as well.

I second the recommendation about the lotion or oil with vitamin E, too. There is no risk of overdose with that.

From what I have read up on it on the internet, Vitamin E 300 IU's in the first trimester may help prevent miscarriage. I'm not sure if thats 100% factual, but what I've read.
My mom is a HUGE vit e buff. She took a 1000 mg a day when pregnant. Since Vit e acts as a glue for the placenta (so I've heard) it isn't really that ironic that my placenta retained and took hours and hours to come out.
On another note, I have read about many benefits of Flax oil supplements, and have to say that I really think that it helps with your skin stretching. It also supplies Omega 3's which we need. I have stretch marks, but not as many as I expected. I think it's because of the flax oil in part. Maybe something to think about.

I'm supposed to take Vit E because of varicose veins, but I haven't been remembering to do it. If I recall correctly, the capsules I have are 400 IU, and I take two a day. My mw said I could double the daily recommended intake, but not more than that.

My MW recommeded I take Vit E for vericose veins and hemmerhoids. She advised to stop taking it around 35-36 weeks because it can cause the placenta to be "sticky" and be difficult to expel.
