Last pregnancy I was told I have "irritable uterus" which meant I had frequent contractions from early in the second trimester, without discernible impact on my cervix. I ended up being on bedrest at various stages and having some mild medications to try and stop them as they became quite painful and definitely uncomfortable much of the time. In my case it really wasn't due to dehydration or over-exertion. Just getting into the car was enough to set them off... and lying down didn't really quell them at all either.

Now, this time around I am hoping to avoid the bedrest altogether and am taking cal-mag as well as pregnancy tonic to rule out some deficiency being behind the twitching!

Has anyone else had experience with this.. any other ideas on how to handle it. With a 3-year old I am not going to be bed-ridden without due cause this time around. (I delivered at 42 weeks last time after trying all rememdies to induce labor naturally).

Same thing here. My uterus would contract if I looked at it funny. I got sick and tired of it contracting all the time, and you're right -- I drank so much water I was sloshing. Can't give any assistance, but I am interested in the question.

Hi. I had contractions from my 19th week through the end (at 40 weeks). They were annoying & at one point we ended up getting an ultrasound because they were 2 minutes apart & fairly strong. There was no effect on my cervix either so we ignored them through the rest of the pregnancy... Mine was caused by a fibroid. (My mother had the same thing through two of her pregnancies.)
No bedrest, just rested when they got strong. Mostly they stayed about 5-7 minutes apart. (for 21 weeks!!!!)
Best of luck to you!

I had ctx from 13wks on with DD .. even rolling over in bed at night would start them. I ended up on bedrest at 20wks (3cm dilated), on terbutaline and later a mag. drip .. But, we got her to stay in til 32 weeks. I'm SO hoping I don't have to do it that way again .. DD will only be 19mo as it is if this babe makes it to due date ..

Hi! With my first pregnancy I too had an irritable uterus. They could not figure out why it was happening and I ended up on Terb and Advil. We figured out after the fact that it was caused by my Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I eliminated the foods that were bothering me and hoped for the best with my current pregnancy.

THis time I have had no problems at all :) If you are sensitive to certain foods, try cutting them out andn see what happends. Hope all goes well for you!

I had that with my last pregnancy and it turned out to be a UTI.If this happens again please rule that out.Hugs,Catherine

As far as I know I'm not having contractions but I definately have abdominal pain or cramping and have since 4 weeks. Lately it's been higher and sharper and I discovered the pains are at the edges of where my uterus is (I didn't know my uterus was that high yet until I saw the mw on Monday). I assumed it was tendons but maybe it's something else?

I also get them when doing any type of exersion. Swimming, pool walking, pushing my WC, bending, twisting, driving (stick), etc.

Bleh.

I can't help you much-- I had it with both pregnancies. First one I was on bedrest for a few days here and there, and never dilated or anything. Had her 4 days before due date.

Second pg I felt cx from 10 weeks on, was on bedrest with official preterm labor from 23 weeks and terbutaline. Ended up having her at 38 weeks.

I think you will probably be fine as long as your cervix remains closed. Just drink lots of water and don't overdo it. What got my cx going was stress, car rides, and anything that made me feel cramped for space or uncomfortable in that position. I ended up not driving the latter 1/3 of my first pg becuase our bucket seats would trigger the cx.

I know you should NOT take flaxseed oil or EPO, and you might want to avoid sperm contact by using condoms, as wel as being gentle when you are intimate.

Good luck!
