View Full Version : Big Islanders check in here!
How many of us here are on the Big Island? I've never been to a forum before that featured a place for Hawaii folks to write each other, and I'm curious. I always think I'm the only person on the Big Island who goes to any internet forums. Prove me wrong! :)

Hi Mother_Sunshine!
We live in Hakalau and homeschool our 12 and 8 yo dss. We're always looking for other homeschoolers to do activities with. Interested? Most of the people we know who homeschool end up quitting when their kids get older. we seem to be rare holdouts
MauiMamma- there's a new LLL group in Kona- try there for meeting mamas. pm me if you need contact info

Yes! :D That sounds great Malama!
We just started homeschooling this year, so we're new holdouts ;). Dd was home with me until kindergarten but went to PS for K and 1st grade. It took a militant 2nd grade teacher to open my eyes.
We've been searching for homeschoolers in the Hilo area but it has been nearly impossible to find anyone like-minded and around the same age.
PM me!

Just wondering if there are any mamma's that want to start a mamma's circle.
Maybe there is already one existing? I am new to the Big Island, and due to have my sweet babe any day now!
I am a waldorf kindergarten teacher, and would love to even have a crafting circle once in a while. or just meet at the beach. :)
Kona mama, I didn't receive a mail from you, maybe it is about this very thing?
hope to hear from you again.

Here's the LLL Leader's info for Kona. Her name is Rachel and her # is 325-3055. Not sure when her meetings are- maybe the last Fri of the month? Call her for the lowdown. THe Group is fairly new, but with some more mamas like you, it'll grow big!

Hi All!
I accidently found this site while looking for something else. What a great idea! My two children (16mo and 4yrs) and I live in Volcano.
My current interest is gardening (specially permaculture)....though I haven't been very succesful.
I also sell unbleached cotton diapers, covers, and slings.

Ran across this thread searching for Big Island homeschool activities (Heather, I think I recognize your name from the BI HS group?). We are new to Kona - my two boys are 10 & 12 and anxious to meet some kids close to their age. Anyone out there fit that bill?
Feel free to email me.

Aloha from (way) up north! Don't live in Hawai'i anymore, but grew up in Honoka'a and go back fairly often to visit family... Tutu's gotta see her grandbabies! I often feel a little out of place when I go back (bf'ing, cd'ing etc) so it's nice to know there are other like-minded mama's back home.
A hui hou!

I am so happy to find so many home schooling mamas there! We are seriously considering moving there and I was planning to home school. I was worried there may not be home school groups there. We live in MD and there are several. My son is only 10 months but when your considering moving that far away you want to think ahead. Any suggestions for areas to look at to buy a home? We are coming at the end of april to check it out. :D

Hi ~ I live in Arizona, but have been wanting to move to Kauai (the only Hawaiian island we've been to), but have lately been considering the Big Island. We homeschool and have 4 kids and obviously AP. It sounds like we'd fit right in!?!
I'd love to hear what you all like and don't like about the area that you live in - homeschooling life, how much you have to drive, the weather, earthquakes, bugs, drugs, beaches, organic produce - I don't care, whatever you're willing to share! :wink

Hi Mamas!
We will be moving to Papaaloa next summer. We're not sure of plans exactly, beyond that....but we have time to decide. ;)
I just thought I'd introduce myself.
My husband and I are pilots, though I am now primarily a SAHM. Our son, Jett, is now 16 months old.
We'll probably be living near my uncle, who has a guava farm. They have four kids, three girls (between maybe 4-10 yrs., guessing) and a son, now 18 months.

Wow! I didn't know there were so many Big I mamas here!
I live on the Hamakua coast, 4 miles north of Hilo on the scenic route. My little boy is 2 1/2, and I'm due with another baby in August. I'm definately homeschooling, and am very into natural childhood, cloth diapering, baby wearing, island foods, and devotional service.
Pleased to meet you all! A hui hou!
