For those interested, let's make a list of songs that are special to us in some way. I intend to make a mix including at least one song from each mama so I have a nice way to be reminded of you. I will probably listen to this music during birth (or at least early labor). It sounded like some others also liked this idea, so hopefully we'll get quite a variety. To help us track down the song, please include the artist, song title and if possible, the album.

my first choices are:

Paul Simon, Under African Skies, Graceland
(a long time favorite)

Paul Simon, Father and Daughter, Wild Thornberry's soundtrack
(a newer song that really makes me smile)

Here are some I like lately...I'll include all the info I know...

India Arie "Ready for Love"
- It makes me just sob lately for some reason, cause it's so beautiful. You can listen to the lyrics and think of it in terms of a mom coaxing her baby out. Most of the lyrics can fit that idea- though there are some that don't. Still makes me weepy.

The Sundays, "When I'm thinking about you" from Static and Silence. -Just a nice relaxing melody.

And for those having boys...
John Lennon - "Beautiful Boy" :love

My pick is Sarah McLachlan's "Sweet Surrender", off the albumns Surfacing or Mirrorball.

The lyrics seem to really fit the whole labor/birth/parenthood experience. Leaving behind one life for a new better one, knowing all you can do is surrender to the experience, etc.....

I have another Sarah McLaughlin pick...Elsewhere off of Fumbling Towards Ecstasy.

I love the time and in between
the calm inside me
in the space where I can breathe
I believe there is a
distance I have wandered
to touch upon the years of
reaching out and reaching in
holding out holding in
I believe
this is heaven to no one else but me
and I'll defend it as long as I can be
left here to linger in silence
if I choose to
would you try to understand
I know this love is passing time
passing through like liquid
I am drunk in my desire...
but I love the way you smile at me
I love the way your hands reach out and hold me near...

This is one of my soul stirring songs that dates back to DH and I's dating days in college. I read a post, I think it was on MDC, about what songs were good for laboring and someone mentioned anything that helped get the baby in there, would definitely help get the baby out. Well, this is probably the song for me. Everytime I listen to it, I'm flooded with all the same intense passionate thoughts we shared 10 yrs ago and it brings me back to a time where we would just linger and dream...most of our dreams have come true. It's a wonderful place to "return" to.

Kate Bush "This Woman's Work" is very inspiring if you're at your end...."I know you have a little life in you yet, I know you have a lot of strength left"

"Lightning Crashes" by Live is about moms giving birth, I LOVE that song, lots of energy in it
