Hi there

We are trying to move from Spokane, and were originally planning to move back to the WA Coast, but looking at other possibilities. So...my dh might be able to work in Anchorage if his current company gets the contract they bid on (he does phone systems and computer/electrical work).

I am really excited because I know I would love it there, I moved from the San Juan islands and loved living so close to nature, and have always wanted to come to Alaska.

I know its cold!? How is it to live there? How practical is it to keep horses there? Where can you live in commuting distance of Anchorage that is in the country and liveable/affordable?

How is the holistic community there? Do you guys need a holistic vet? I could only find one listed.

Anything else?!

Thanks and keep your fingers crossed!

We had an awesome, somewhat holistic, vet at Bering Sea. She moved to a new clinic, though. I have to find her for next time.

Lots of horses out in the Valley. Some in Anch.

Lots of people commute from the Valley or Eagle River--even closer and still rural. San Juans would be comp. to that. Anch may be comp. to Bellingham maybe?

We have some awesome naturopathic drs. here.

I think it's pretty darn perfect here. You have to be active outdoors to love the winters as they are cold but lovely. And, you have to see if you like the dark. Again, if you're active, it's fine as lots of light from the moon & snow.

Good luck finding out about the move!!

I agree, it's pretty close to perfect here. :) You will be amazed at how quickly you become acclimated. We were here for a year, left for a year & couldn't stand being away, and came back in '97. The first couple years I noticed big changes in my sleeping patterns between summer and winter, but it has slowly adjusted over the years and now I hardly notice a difference.

It gets down to about 20 degrees before I feel like I need a "real" coat on. If the winter temps have hovered around zero, you will see folks out playing in tshirts once it gets up to 30. lol

Lots of horses out here in the valley (50 miles north of Anchorage), and lots of commuters to Anchorage from here. It would be awesome to have a holistic vet out here! :)

Hi there

Thanks for the replies, sounds so wonderful. Does not look like this job is coming together tho so maybe later. In the meantime looking at the Olympic Peninsula, so wish us luck!
