I saw somewhere that if you have had previa you should not have a homebirth so I was wondering if there was anyway to saftly have one. I plan on seeing an OB during the first 1/2 of my pregnancy with all that that is including utrasounds and the works and if my placenta moves up as it should than I would like to continue on with my homebirth plan. I also had a C-section with my #2 and everything went fine and I healed up real nice. I am hoping that these two things will not hinder me from having a happy homebirth with #3 when the time comes.

I don't understand why they should be related? Does having previa in one pregnancy mean that you are at a higher likelyhood to have another? OK, just looked it up. Yes, you are 12 times more likely to have a recurrence of previa. Frye also states that "repreated pregnancies iwth short intervals in between...there may not be sufficient time fro the previous placental site to heal, thus reducing the available space for a new placenta to implant". she doesn't say how long to wait however.

It seems that if you went to a midwife, they would be able to rule it out as would an ultrasound (here in Oregon, midwives can order ultrasounds too). Then, if the placenta is where it needs to be, you could birth at home.

A previous previa should not rule you out for a future homebirth. A midwife can accurately locate the placenta with a fetoscope & by palpating the uterus. Just because you *may* be at higher risk for a previa does not mean you will have one, and I wouldn't think a midwife would rule you out on that basis.

And just to clarify, you had placenta previa with your second child & had a cesarean because of the previa? Is that right?

Yes I had a complete previa and as I grew the placenta began to peel due to the fact it was so perfectly centerd. I went on bedrest at 15 week and stayed there :bawl it was very tough on my family. I had the c-section because of the previa. Also to help see that it didn't happen again or to at least lower my chances I have waited almost 4 years between my youngest before we have even talked about another one. I'm not even pregnant but since my last pregnancy was so tramatic on my oldest dd, dh and myself I am kinda scared to try again.
