Just thought I'd check and do a roll call. I always like to see if there are moms here for a real life swap sometime! I have tried to meet as many as I can, so if you already know me, please just bear with...
Please list username and town. Thanks.

New to the ANC road system, but not new to AK. I've just moved to Girdwood. Baby is due in about two weeks and I plan to use cloth diapers. Been searching ANC for the perfect cloth diaper pail, but have come up empty handed. Anyone have advice on where and what to purchase? Of course I am looking for something to keep the stinks in...
Thanks!

I've actually never used a real diaper pail. I just have regular garbage cans (Sterilite w/ lids) - you just have to make sure a mobile baby doesn't have access to it (or the dog!). ;) I've also heard of using the plastic lidded containers for kitty litter. I put a drop of lavender oil on both ends of a q-tip and tape it under the lid and it works great for odor. Just change it out on wash day. HTH!

Actually, I have two diaper pails, 1 I bought at a thrift shop and has a locking lid, the other I bought at burlington. The burlington one is skinny (no baby head will fit in there) and has a pull out part to dump the diapers in the washer. It also has a lid, and a foot pedal part. The thing I don't like about it is the pull out part has plastic handles that pop off if it gets too heavy. The other pail has a foot pedal part but no pull out section. I keep one in the bathroom for messy dipes, and the bigger one in the laundry room for pee dipes. I did find two diaper pails at a thrift shop in Eagle River ( abit out of your way I know) that are round and have a section for a deo disk. They were up on a top shelf, and look like they had been there a while. One was white one was green I think. Probably could get them cheap. It is the thrift shop next to the ER library. (can't remember the name, something religious).

hey, i'm here in anchorage and ds is just about out of diapers, so i'm going to have a stash to give away soon if anyone needs them...most of mine are nothing fancy...some gerber prefolds and homemade contours, some homemade fitteds i'm rather proud of, some ugly first attemps. some alexis pull on covers, a few wrap covers. anyway, i'm fanatical about not filling up the landfill, so if anyone needs these and you are near anchorage, they are yours (pm me). most fit about 4mo-1yr or so (ds at 20 mo still fits them but he is skinny and we like low rise) again, nothing fancy and most are very well-loved, but if you are committed to cloth, not picky, and on a budget they are for you!
enjoy the snow everyone!

My fav diapers are BBH, and TB, but they don't make Tuesday Bear's anymore, so I have to get them all used. They are so cute, though! If anyone needs diapers, I am getting a bunch more soon, and I will rifling through what I need or can use, and passing on whatever is left. LMK.

No worries, Erica...whenever you can make it :) I'll probably make it to this month's LLL meeting (7 pm at the Midwives this coming friday) too. It's always fun to chat with the other moms there, so if circumstances allow and you want to check it out I could meet you there too...best wishes!

Ok, I have been considering going to cloth. It seems much more ecinomical to me, I know nothing about it though, what would be the easiest way to get started here in Alaska, I wouldn't be opposed to buying used I just have no clue.
Noah is a year old, but he will probably be in diapers for a long while because he is developmentlly delayed. Daniel is almost out of diapers completely except at night. I know there are many different kinds of diapers, I probably need whatever is easiest, one peice, self-contained type instead of covers with inserts, and definitely no pins. Noah is 17lbs and just about ready to move to size 3 in disposibles.
All suggestions welcome!

Laura- Well, hey there stranger!! I didn't know you were interested in cloth! I have been an avid cloth diaperer since Soleil (27m Dd) has been three months old! I personally like Puddlecatchers, but have a bunch of Babies Textiles prefolds with snappis. Never used pins over here.....no sirreee bob. I like Polar Babies Happy Pants, Stacinator wool covers, gotta have my aristocrats at night, Stacinator So Simple cover, and some cheap covers from freddies that velcro...can't remember the brand. Anywho...next time we get together I'll show you my stash. I know way too much about cloth :D and am more than willing to share my info and hours of research :) .

Fairbanks here :)
I REALLY have to remember to let you girls know when I'm coming down to Anchorage. We just got back from a week long trip and did I remember to PM anyone ahead of time... :nono
There are a couple of other mama's from Fairbanks that are here at MDC that CD, but only a couple :(
We are suppose to go back to Anchorage for a week starting December 4th (hubby is interviewing for a job down there) and I'd LOVE to finally meet up with some of you that I've "talked" to here :D

You know, the Imaginarium has preschool Mondays. That could be fun for the kids and then let them run rampant afterwards. Or, the zoo? But, no real warm up hut unless you buy a coffee inside.
Oh, :Sheepish: can I come even tho we're just about done w/dipes?

I didn't know if you all knew this or not... but as it hasn't been mentioned yet (and NO, none of these are my businesses- no spam here)
Alaska has cloth diaper companies!
www.denalidiapers.com
www.auroradiaperco.com
and www.blueberrybaby.com (consignments too)
I think www.puffinpants.com closed, although the wahm is still a member of mothering.
I find alexis featherlites at Junior Towne (and some Canadian AIOs) and diaperaps at Fred's

Back to my original post... (how do I get so off track?) If we would like to get together for a swap, the coffee shop next to title wave books is pretty big... or we could meet at Loussac...
