View Full Version : Mucous plug and bloody show?

I'm in a rush so I'll have to make this fast, but I have a quick question...

I'll be 38 weeks tomorrow. I had my first internal exam earlier this week by my midwife. She found me to be a fingertip dialated, the baby still fairly high up (about -1), and not really effaced yet at all. Her exam also stirred up a decent amount of bloody show.

This morning I wiped after going to the bathroom and was surprised to see what I can only assume is part of my mucous plug- it was a really big, thick, gooey, snotty-looking blob.

This doesn't necessarily mean that I'm going to have this baby anytime soon, does it? I know that it means that I MAY go into labor soon, but is it just as likely that the big day could still be several weeks away?

Thanks,
Jenny.

From what I remember from my first, you can loose your mucus plug like a month before you go into labor. I didn't loose mine until I was in labor, but I think you can loose it anytime and still be weeks away from baby...not sure this is what you want to hear...

Hmm, From all the times I can remember seeing my musous plug, I was either already in early labor or, was going into labor within a couple of hours of seeing it.
I know, thats just me, and alot of pg mama's do see this early on so, I'm not sure if I'm helping here or not, but goodluck and positive labor vibes to you!!!

With my first I started losing my plug the morning I went into labor. I guess it could still be a bit, but I would be surprised if you don't have your baby very soon.

Wishing you the best!

With my dd, I lost my mucous plug about 2 weeks before I went into labor. It regenerates if you don't go into labor, so I lost another one when I was in labor. They are so gross, aren't they?! :gross

With my dd, I lost my mucus plug at 36 weeks then delivered a few days past 40 weeks. :eyesroll At least it's a good sign that you're dilating. :thumb
