Hi all!
I would like to make sure I invite you all the join the playgroup this Tuesday, Pearl harbor area. I am organizing a playgroup, so far we officially have three members! Hooray! I am wondering what everyone would think about being a playgroup under Attachment Parenting International, or if everyoen likes the idea of building our own, less formal group from scratch? If you have thoughts or ideas on this- or you just want to come out and play, call me at 421-1145! The topics will include fair expectations at differant devolpmental stages, and the theme for the kids is shake rattle and roll! We are goingt o make soem easy recycled toys for tots!
If you are not sure if you would like to join, be sure to call me for more details!
Hope to see all you fun ladies and your wonderful families soon!

Okay I survived the trip to visit family!!! Wondering if there are plans for the next playgroup? I would like to hang around some people who aren't constantly looking at me weird and asking questions.

:!wback: Val! I was just thinking about you the other day. I didn't know when you were getting back. I really want to get together again. It seems everyone lives on the complete other side of the island. My house is always open if anyone wants to come over this way. I will defintely be going to the next get together.

I am so excited to find some Windward Side Moms. I've been in Kailua since September and would love to get together with some other Moms. My dh is in the Army, I'm a SAHM with my 3 1/2 month old dd.

mom2noah,
I noticed your signature regarding rearfacing, I was wondering if you know or have any information about which side of the car is safer for the car seat, my car won't allow the seat to go in the middle. My insurance company says behind the driver and then the carseat manufacturer (according to the salesman) says behind the passenger. Thanks for any help.

Honestly, I don't think it matters too much. The safest spot is the middle but other than that it is what fits best into your car. For instance, if you are tall then obviously you would want it behind the passengers seat. I had my DS in the middle but just moved him behind the drivers seat the other day because I was car pooling with a friend. I've actually left it there because it's so convienent! It was kind of a pita to reach over into the middle to buckle him in and stuff. I'll probably move him back over eventually.

Here's a few other links to read

I hope that helps!

*Rant below - beware*

It seems like everytime I come to the Mothering forums I find out I'm doing something else wrong and I need to change it. Last month it was EC'ing, earlier this week it was plastics, then it was mama cloth/diva cups, now it's carseats!!!

These are real issues and things I need to be concerned about but I'm sick of all the research that goes into each one and the purchases and just how frustrated I am with the fact that the general community is closed minded enough to not have a clue about this stuff, leaving me uneducated until now.

So, here we go with carseats.. no I didn't realize that children in Sweden stay in rear-facing car seats until 4-5 years old. Yes, those videos were far too compelling for me to look away from. We don't have the money for a convertible car seat but I'll start saving..

*Rant over*

Jenn, the car seat you have now can't rear-face?

JennInSeattle

Nope, it's foward facing only - I didn't realize I'd need a convertible.

ARG! I have been out of it for a while, but I think I got my head back on. Sort of. OKAY! Valerie is back! How was the trip? I did not plan a playgroup for this next week, becuase LLL is going on, and did not want people who are on tight gas budgets(like me) to have to choose. I know we are all over the island, and I hope to rotate locations. So far, we have made it to Heathers, and Jessica is credited with getting us all together in the first place! SO! I hear there are lots of neat outdoors things to do, I even have a listto share of top Keiki things to do here in Hawaii, I willmake copies for you all. How does the 23rd sound ? If someone wants to host - LMK or we can plan my side of the island again- Pearl Harbor has a nice shaded baby pool at Scotts pool that is free. Or if weather is icky my house is always an option too, but i am open to any suggestions!
OH yeah, and we are also going to do a holiday and kid's music exchange if you want. Make two or three copies of your favorite kids or holiday music and we can trade off to widen the variety in your playroom.
See you all soon- maybe I will run into some of you at the Baby expo- I am doing a talk about babywearing both days.
Thanks
Kelly

I drove over to Kaneohe yesterday afternoon to deliver 2 slings. It was such a beautiful drive. We don't go over that way often unless it is just to drive.

Kelly-yes the girls got over their illness. They both had URI and it turns out that Allison gets Asthma like symptoms like I do when she is sick. I had to fight off the steroids from the doctors. We didnt use any.thank goodness :D See you at the expo! We will be there both days. When is your guest speaking? On the main stage? Best of luck i will be rooting you on. If my dh can make it he will be there too. He's schedule is 3 AM-1PM now :angry

Val-Welcome back! Sorry we couldnt get together on Veterans day it was a little nuts for us that day.

Okay excuse any typos, but Layla is a squirmy wormy while I am typing and I wanted to type this out before I forgot. The playgroup will be at my house on Tuesday the 23 from 9 to 11. Kelly said something last time about a cd exchange, holiday/kids music. So bring copies of cds that you might want to exchange. I do not have a clue as to how many will be showing up, so the number of copies is up to you. My number is 422-1008, call if you need help with directions, or you can email me, vnjw@hotmail.com.
directions from H1
First, I DO NOT live on base. But you are going to take the exit to Pearl Harbor/Hickam. You end up being on a 5 or 6 laned road, you want to be in the right most lane. Before you get to the guard station, there is a sign that says return to H1/Arizona memorial, turn there. It is the parking lot for pass and id. Go straight through the parking lot and turn right it is South street. It turns a bit, the first four way stop is Casey Street, turn right. The next stop sign turn right, it is Main Street. Hooper Place is the court on the left. We have some parking, but sometimes it is full. You can park on the street, I will pull my car up far so someone can park behind me in the carport. I am in the second set of houses on the left, 3303 apt E.
If you are coming from Kam/Nimitz directions, the street you want to turn on is Center Street, coming from Pearl City, turn right, from downtown, turn Left. It is actually Kam Hghway, but it is just before it turns into Nimitz. I do hope this makes sense. Anyway, turn onto Center, take that first left, then turn on the first right, Plantaion Street. Take this until the first Four way stop, it is Casey Street, turn left. Follow Casey until you hit Main street, the first stop sign, turn right, Hooper is the court on the left.
Once again, I apologize for typos, and any confusion these directions may cause, but I do plan on getting back on here and editing when my husband gets home and can play with the lovely girls for awhile. Just wanted to get it out here so you all know where and when the next playgroup is.

Hi all,
I'm posting for a friend of mine that just moved to Oahu, north / east side of the island somewhere, can't remember the name now sorry.

She is desperately searching for a playgroup for her and her 8 month old daughter. I was wondering when the next playgroup would be?

Thanks,
Jodi

The playgroup is loosely orgainzed at best. We try to get together twice a month. I pretty much took a break all of December as we had company in town. I am setting up Januarys dates right now, I can post the final dates here as well as at oahuapplaygroup yahoo group. I base it on feedback from the mamas, so have her give me a call my new cell number is 808-780-4087
Thanks
