Going to Hilo- need advice

We'll be in the Hilo area for about a week on vacation in October (right before Ironman). Can anyone suggest good places to eat and things to do? We are staying at Dolphin Bay...not into the resort scene.

Also, I'd like to bring my cloth diapers. Any recommended laundromats?
