Hi! As many of you may know I am starting a playgroup for attached families here on Oahu. We had our first 'official' get together this last Tuesday and we desided to go under API as a non-profit playgroup, we are in teh works of getting all teh paperwork handed in that they need to post us up on their site! We are planning many more playgroup get togethers, but I wanted to tell you all about our Harvest Fesival!
Later this month (tentivly pending on location- the 30th) we are going to host a family harvest festival! It is going to be on a Saturday morning, so it is a chance to bring the entire family along, we will have activites for all age groups, moms, dads, and families. We are looking for families to volunteer to host booths, some examples of booths that are already planned are; a star tunnel for tots to naviagte, a sugar-free bake musical chair type game, Hawaiian harvests, pumpkin sensary table for little babes, the dress up corner for kids to dress their parents or each other in goofy outfits, and a three leggeded parade race!
Everyone is invited to come in costumes as this is a masquirade type event, however, no scarey, gorey, or frigtening outfits please! Instead of a custome contest we will have differant catagories of parades and differant kids can MC each parade!
This will be a chance for families who want a safe evironment for their kids to learn about giving and receiving as they go form booth to booth playing games and enjoying healthy snacks( no commercial candies). The theme should reflect the bounties of the earth or harvests.
If you are interested in volunteering to host a booth, or have ideas for booths, OR would like to come, please let me know~

I'll keep you all posted as to the exact when and where when I get confirmation on a location~
Thanks!
Kelly S

I didn't know there was a pumpkin patch on the island. When are you thinking of going? Also where is it?
Thanks.

The Aloun Farms Pumkin Patch in Kapolei! Its opened Sept.30 through Oct.31st it is located at 91-1440 Farrington Hwy, Kapolei, HI 96707 if you want to do a map qwest ( I am terrible!!!!! with directions)
BUT I must warn you- it is HOT , there is pretty much no shade, and very dusty! The red dirt just blows everywhere. So playcloths would be a good idea. We went last year, we were used to pumpkin patches from teh aminland, this is differant, but there are feilds and feilds of pumpkins, they have horses and other stuff out there for the kids. I think they have some shade tents, and petting animals for the kids as well.
I am thinking we will go Tuesday the 26th - any suggestions for times? Maybe around ten AM so we can be there and goen before it gets too hot?
My Katie is one now she I am going to put her in some raggy cloths and let her explore, I think she will have a blast, I don't know if this would be the best for all ages- We went last year with her in a carrier, I paniced about the dust the entire time, so be warned!
Call me 421-1145 if you want to plan on meeting there! Or email me KellySciarrotta@yahoo.com
Thanks

Great Angie! Did the time of 10:00 sound good to you? I know that will be a pretty good drive you you guys...
I asked DH agian about directions, he said it was pretty easy to find, and that there were many signs along the way. Whenever he is driving I never pay attention to were we are going. What he said was you tkae H-1 to exit 5A- then you take a right onto farington, he said it is up the road a bit and on the left but it is well marked. Now, it has been a year so I don't know how he remembers this stuff, but he seemed confident.
I look forward to seeing you guys again! OH! I forgot to get in touch with Heather about Noah's broom-- I will send her an email right now. Sorry about that.

Sounds good Katie. I asked my DH last night if he wanted to go to the pumpkin patch and he was pretty enthusiastic about it. It is a long drive for us and I'm not sure if there will be traffic. I'm guessing it'll be about an hours drive. I think we can find the location. I did a mapquest last night and it looks pretty straight forward. Are you bringing your Ergo? I'd love to give it another try. I suppose I could check out Kahala Kids but I actually try to avoid that store. They have really cute stuff but their prices are outrageous. I'm sure that their location is very high rent, but I still think that their mark-ups are off the wall.

Don't worry about the broom. I found Heather's phone number on an old email so I was going to call her and ask is she could bring it to LLL.

Great! I can not wait to meet your DH as well, what does he do for a living? I don't think Sonny will be able to come along- although he asked about having a BBQ one weekend fo rthe fun of it...WOW! That is a hike for you guys - I am not sure about traffic eigther.
OH Heather and her family will be at the pumpkin patch as well. She said she will bring Noah's broom along.
I am going to bring my Ergo and maybe a sling as well. And playcloths for Katie. I remember it being very much red dirt and dusty. I think Katie will like the petting area- I am going to try and find a phone number to make sure they are having the petting zoo again this year and confirm hours.
I'll keep you posted!

That's cool that Heather is going too. Noah will be excited to see his broom! I felt so bad about leaving it there because he had just gotten it that morning. Oh well, it'll be like a whole new toy again! That's great that they have a petting zoo! Noah loves animals. We take him to the zoo all the time.

I would love to do a BBQ sometime. Weekends are difficult though. My DH is a cook at the Oahu Country Club and has Mondays and Tuesdays off. Otherwise he works 1:30-9:30 pm

Oh thats cool Angie- you guys eat really well!
If he has Monday and Tuesdays off would it be better if I started to plan the playgroups for another day? I have been trying for something ever other week, but I just picked Tuesday out of the hat- what day would be better for you guys?
Oh, I was thinking about the first get together in November we could do a kids music exchange... I have to look into it- I know you can copy you own CDs as back ups and you are okay, and I know you can not sell copied CDs but what I was thinking is everyone could make a CD of their families favorite kid songs and then we could just swap copies, like a cookie party everyone brings two copies, and then takes home two differant copies. I have to see if that is legal :innocent I am not sure...
Katie has tons of cute kid CDs and she loves to dance, and I know I really like holiday music... it was just an idea LMK
Thanks

Kelly, it doesn't really matter to me. I actually like the Tuesdays. My DH likes it because I go out and he can stay home and play video games uninterupted, lol! Plus we only have one car, so on days he works we have to juggle who gets it. If I need the car that means I have to drop him off at work and then pick him up again at 9:30. So usually he just takes it.

I think a CD exchange would be fun. There are lots of songs that Noah loves.

grumble ! :irked:
I loose so bad! I am so sorry Angie, but I just called the farm again to find out about shade and such, well turns out they are sold out for weekdays and will only be opened the last two weekends now. SO! If you want to go to the patch you can go on the weekend, but the Tuesday thing can not happen... grumble !
SO! I am going to make Katie a pumpkin patch! You are welcomed to come play with us! I am going to make some pumpkin treats, tell her some pumkin stories, paint a pumpkin, carve one, and let her play with the innards of a pumkin! I think she will like picking a pumpkin out of a nice grassy, shaded area better anyway!
I called Heather and she knows, and wrote you an email, I hope this does not screw you guys up too badly! LMK
Thanks
Kelly the pumpkin head!
