View Full Version : Cyber Shower Sign up HERE!!!!

I was thinking we could have a cyber shower. Not anytime soon but we could all go ahead and sign up for it and all so that we have plenty of time to figure out what we will get our shower partner. I was thinking it could be a "blind" shower and we wouldn't find out who was getting our presents until we get them. I think it would be fun. I could handle matching everyone up and all. Anyone want to do this???
Could everyone who wants to be included in the swap please e-mail me at Formulawulf@comcast.net I am working on getting everyone on a list and will be making the matches in a couple weeks.
Anyone who hasn't already e-mailed me and who wants in please e-mail me at Formulawulf_pj@yahoo.com.
I will be moving this weekend and will no longer have the comcast addy.

Sounds like fun!
How would it be blind, though? Don't we have to know who we're sending it to?

sure, count me in. there are enuf of here from BC and that could lessen the cross border stuff but i guess we could mark the packages gifts since they are!!!!

Well it would be blind in that you wouldn't know who yours was coming from.
Should we think about what we need/want? Should there be a cost limit?

great idea! :thumb :love
I think there should be a price limit...
Also when it gets closer what we could do is each momma write a small wish list or something.
Like we have 1 post that says wish list and each momma partisipating would reply and then we could see what our momma wanted... make sense? :LOL

I think we should have a cost limit and minimum. Could we say no less than $20 and no more than $50???? If that isn't agreeable then let me know ammounts that would be.
I think we should think up what we need/want. To save room on the boards everyone could just e-mail their wish lists to me and once we are all paired up i could send the wish lists out.
We could also add on the wish lists if we are willing to have gently used items also. Personally i know i would be open to a used item if it was a higher end thing and could be bought in excellent condition used for much less. If we do a used trade though it would have to be excellent - new condition items only.
Whats everyone think of that? Any ideas?

I would like to be involved, but part of me feels superstitious as I m/c at 11.5 weeks last time.
I would love if homemade items could be included. You can't put a pricetag on that!

I think Mama made items would be great as gifts from the more creative Mamas. Definately priceless.
I totally understand the supersticious feelings. This is why i said no time soon for the exchange. I was just thinking i could go ahead and get everyone on board that wants to be so i would go ahead and get everything situated and ready for when it is time.
I was thinking a good time would be sometime in February or March for an actualy exchange date. I could send out the e-mails to everyone on who their partner is and what their wish list is sometime before Christmas or in January that way there would be plenty of time to get a nice shower package together without having to rush.
If anyone wants to go ahead and send theirs in with their info you can send it to FormulaWulf@aol.com.
I will need your MDC screen name, real name, mailing address and wish list. The info i am sent won't be given to anyone other than myself and the partner you are matched up with. I can either match people up by region, due dates, wish lists (ie someone who wants homemade with someone who wants to give homemade) so please let me know if you are one of our creative Mamas. OR i could just put everybody in a hat and pull names.

im in :) $50 is alittle steep for my lowly budget though. i dont want to nix someone out of a good partner. im good at $30, maxed at 40 with a heafty explanation to dh :eyesroll
i'd totally be good with gently used. if it survived a baby and is still in good enough condition to be handed down...that sounds like good quality to me :)
annakiss
10-05-2004, 03:15 PM
I agree with Jenn about $50 being a little steep for me. 20-30 is much more in my range.

Sounds like everyone is more for the min/limit set at between $20-$40? I am trying to get up a set of guidelines so i can edit the original post to include the guidelines. So far i have this.
1. price minimun is $20 and max is $40.
2. Gently used items are acceptable.
3. Homemade items are acceptable.
4. Sometime in February or March. (We can tack down a definate date close to then)
Anything anyone doesn't agree with or wants to add let me know.

I'm in too! Only sugestion is that we dont have a price minimum. $40 or $50 would be too high for me too. I agree that homemade items are much more valuable.

I'm in.... $20 range is what I'm able to do... We're on a pretty tight budget here and this baby will be #2 so we have a lot to keep in mind here for ourselves (no offence to anyone... we just live tight paycheck to paycheck lately).
If we could try to arrange best as possible canada to canada and us to us, etc. I think it would cut down on costs for a lot of us when it comes to shipping. That way we can spend more on the present than the shipping (I've been in swaps where shipping has ended up as much as the swap value which isn't pretty).

Keep the ideas and input coming ladies. I will be putting it all on the first post in the next week or so.

I think around $20 is about right. And I agree about keeping the shipping together.
I have also done swaps/secret santas where shipping was a ton, and that was even for parcel post. Let's keep that in mind when we make out our request lists also-- smaller and lighter is generally easier to manage.
I would like to point one thing out.
For the ladies in the states, it does not cost any more to send something to Canada, than to send it within the states.
For us in Canada, it costs twice as much to send within Canada, then it does to send to the states.

I knew it was pretty cheap to send from Canada to U.S., didn't know it worked the other way around.
Doesn't it take a couple extra weeks, though? Esp. to go US to Canada.
No, as long as you mark it as a gift. I have gotten stuff from FL in 5 days. ANd as well, as long as we are not doing this around a holiday, but that is just good common sense :P

Actually, packages that I have sent in previous swaps to Canada have always been higher priced.... usually twice what I would pay for priority in the US to get as cheap as it gets to Canada.

I love this idea and am so in! I too agree that $20-30 should be the limit. I actually would prefer to do gently used/handmade gifts!
I think recycling and reusing goes along with MDC's whole concept of parenting anyway. *grin* Not that getting new is bad mind you.
I also thought it might be a good idea to do the "secret shower" thing all the way. What I mean is once we have a partner we could send anonymous e-cards and such to the other person as little bits of encouragement etc. Especially if we see that person posting that they are having a hard time.
Just a thought,
Nichol
