I'm not sure why I'm thinking about this already (probably because it's going to take me the next 8 months to figure out CDing!) but I'm trying to figure out which diapers to get.
I don't want to have a stash with a lot of variety; I mostly want 2-3 different brands that work well. If something doesn't work for my baby, then I'll ebay it and buy more of the stuff that does. I'm also into simple and easy is best. If it matters, Austin is either very warm or fairly warm most of the year with a few coldish months. I'm also not going to know the sex of the baby, so I'm mostly looking for plain (boring)dipes for now.
So what would you suggest? I want cloth wipes too.

Well holy cow! Dont get me started on CDing - its my obsession!
I am so excited to be building a newborn stash since we used very basic diapers for Maxi's first 5 months.
What kind of diapers do you think you want to use? Do you want to deal with CPFs or you more into fitteds? Do you want hemp or organic cotton?
Its really tough to say you only want to try a few because (for me at least) it was really trial and error to find what I liked best and what worked best (not always one in the same). We have tried some of everything pretty much and now know what works and what we love - though I am still always buying and selling and trading because like I said its a hobby for me.
Give me some more details and I will help you out! :thumb
Oh btw - you can see some of what we have in the Cding link in my sig. Its sort of out of date but it gives you an idea of what a few different things look like.

I'd love to know the pros/cons of organic cotton vs. hemp. I think I'd like to mostly get one or the other unless there is a good reason to have some of both.
I'm probably leaning towards fitteds because I think they will be the most DH friendly (not to mention the ILs). I really don't want to use sposies anywhere. I know that I can handle CPFs...what are their advantages over fitteds other than price?
The diapering board is so overwhelming!

Ok well (this is my opinion) OC is much softer than hemp and hemp tends to have stink issues more often than OC, but I find hemp to be a bit more absorbant. We have lots of both because certain diapers are only made with one or the other some brands use both but are hard to get so I take whatever I can find (like El Bees). I love SOS (one of my favorites) but they are only hemp (for now). So if it comes down to a diaper that I love for the look and fit but it only comes in hemp its not really an issue for me.
I dont think there is an advantage to CPFs over fitteds other than price. I like both. CPFs took me a long time to learn to fold right and snappi right so that they worked for us. But now I really like them. I hand dyed all of ours and I love the way they came out. I put just a CPF on Maxi with no cover at home and it is just the cutest, most classic look!
At home we use mostly fitteds and wool (covers/soakers/longies and pants). We occasionally use CPFs as well. For preschool we use Wonderoos pocket diapers (because they are easier and I dont have to worry about my wool getting ruined there).
For the new baby here is what I have so far:
3 First Class Baby size 0 hemp fitteds
3 Little Caboose size 0 hemp fitteds
1 Kind Hearted Woman small hemp fitted (have an order for 5 more in)
4 small El Bee fitteds (3 OC, one hemp)
2 small Sugarpeas side snap (one OC, one hemp)
6 Muttaqin one size fitteds
18 hand dyed CPFs
18 OC newborn hand dyed contours (these were Maxi's)
12 OC small hand dyed contours (also Maxi's)
3 med. Little Lovies (hemp & cotton) these fit like smalls
1 small Aristocrats soaker
1 newborn Mosaic Moon soaker
1 small/med. Mosaic Moon soaker
1 newborn Little Caboose wool cover
1 small El Bee Wooly Bully wool cover
1 small Sugar Peas wool cover
5 newborn Proraps covers
4 newborn Bummis covers
4 small Bummis covers
2 newborn Bumpy night covers
1 pair small Wonderfull Woolies longies on order
1 newborn pair longies a friend is making
1 newborn soaker a friend is making
I still want to get some more covers/soakers/longies and 2 more small El Bees and some other fitteds in size small since I am pretty sure the newborns will be outgrown in just a few weeks.

Wow Morgan, your newborn stash looks great :thumb I'm also really into cding, but didn't get started until ds was 6 months old, so I'm really excited to buy newborn and small stuff. Jack has been in mediums since I started :eyesroll For Jack I use mainly fitteds and wool and will get mainly this for my newborn sizes. I also have some AIO's for the diaper bag and DH. I don't use prefolds at all so I won't be using them for the new baby either - although I do have a couple that were so cute I had to buy.
Here is my newborn stash so far:
5 FCB 0 fitteds
1 LC 0 fitted
18 Righteous Baby FLAMS
6 Bizzy B Hive fitteds
3 Patchwork Pixie fitteds
1 mosaic moon newborn soaker
1 ebay crochet soaker
1 fuzbomb
2 first class baby wool covers
1 bizzy b wool cover
5 first class baby AIO's
I also plan on buying a few newborn proraps, 6 - 12 Very Baby AIO's, and more of the brands of fitteds I have. I also plan on knitting up a few newborn soakers and maybe some shorts.
For my small's I'm going to get mainly elbees and fireflys.

www.flutterbybaby.com has very baby aio's. If you get on her mailing list she occasionally has 20% off sales. That's what I'm waiting for:)
