Hi, I am curious to find out if you celebrate Halloween and Thanksgiving in Germany and how.

With my older DD and some of her friends I go trick-or-treating every year. We knock out friends' and some neighbours doors and even make a scare at the local library. Everybody has asked us to come again the next year.
After the tour, we usually have a little party for the kids and their parents. We split the goodies in two. Half of it goes to a local hospital. The next day, on all saints day we distribute little packages with sweets to sick children in the hospital.
This year, I will ask people to give us more "healthy goodies"!

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. Every year I just have to do my New England turkey recipe and all the rest. We invite some family and friends. Sometimes I felt very lonely at these celebrations, because I miss my American family the most and also when we had somebody at the table who wouldn't understand why we would celebrate this American tradition. Some things you just can't explain you have to live them!
To a happy holiday season in Germany!

We're doing a Halloween party with our English-language playgroup on Halloween. Of course, we've taken advantage of the decorations at Tengelmann, etc. to dress up the house for Halloween. The pumpkins have been carved. Yep, I'd say we're doing as much here as we would have in the US for Halloween. I wouldn't let dd trick or treat in America, anyway. And we don't eat sweets, so it's not that big of a deal to not get treats for Halloween.

Thanksgiving... we aren't planning to do turkey, but to buy some of the roti-chickens that are so delicious. My thought is that someone else can do the work for the bird and the roti-chickens here are so delicious, why worry about it. :) But I will get semmelbrot (I think that's what it's called) and make my own sage dressing, then we'll do mashed potatoes, etc. and have a nice family meal. We always had intimate family Thanksgivings back home, so the lack of family doesn't bother me that much. The 3 of us will do.

And... we're going home for Christmas, so there is that to look forward to.

Any of your favorite Thanksgiving recipes you want to share? :D

Velochic, yesterday, I visited my friend in Munich. She told me that she is going to go to a Halloween Party hosted by someone from her DD's English-language playgroup tomorrow. Maybe it is you!!??
Anyway, the names of my friends are Alice and Martin with Katharina and Marius.
Have a great Halloween! :jumpers:
I have some really great recipes for a classic Thanksgiving dinner. My favorite is a adapted version from an old New England recipe. It is a stuffing with boiled chestnuts and yams. I post the recipe later. I'm kind of in a hurry.
