Does anyone know why in NT they say to NOT wash the kombucha brewing bowl in the dishwasher? After you drink some, can you wash the K-T glasses in there or not? :scratch
I can't wait to try it. DH is addicted to rootbeer so hopefully this will satisfy his need for sugar/fizz. :LOL

mmm, that's strange. I hadn't seen that. I pour my fresh brewed Kombucha into a glass gallon jug (the ones you get apple cider in) and refrigerate it. Then I pour the fresh brewed tea into a gallon glass brew jar with wide lid. I always wash (by hand and dishsoap) the brew jar between changes. I add the cooled tea, one of the mushrooms and some of the Kombucha from the previous brew. NO problems.
I drink from a regular glass that definitely gets washed in the dishwasher. I do run an extra rinse cycle to make sure all soap residue is gone. Maybe that's the worry, soap residue from 'dishwasher' soaps?
If you need a 'shroom' let me know. I will have another one on Monday. I just shipped my other spare today.

I just did a search and found this thread, wanting to ask a question.
Where can I buy this 'mushroom' to get started, a place you have bought from and find reliable? I have a good friend who gave me a starter 'shroom' but she is new to K and just cut her's in half with a little bit of tea in it, so I don't think it's enough of a starter to use. I just want to start new and get it right from the start.
Thanks! Trying to learn all I can about this.

Soap, even the non-petrol kinds, leaves a coating on dishes, that can't be rinsed off. This coating can harm the scoby and drink.
To clean Kombucha making dishes, use white vinegar. The vinegar must be pasturized or you may end up with mother of vinegar, instead of Kombucha.
http://www.happyherbalist.com/pictures.htm says:
Use only distilled vinegars (or alcohol) for cleaning or to aid starting. Using raw vinegar may convert your kombucha to mother of vinegar. (MOV) Whenever you use any vinegar be sure that it is pasteurized or boiled. The common White Distilled vinegar is OK
Mother of Vinegar (from a red wine) Very similar to kombucha. However kombucha is a decidedly different species of bacteria and yeasts which makes kombucha unique.
