And looks like we are having a very healthy baby. We wanted to know the gender, but the stinker was breech with his/her butt down and legs folded all up front, lol! They offered to take another peak next month, so I'm still debating that. We found out with dd so all of my baby clothes are pink, no gender neutural stuff. I know u/s is not good for the babies. I just really want to know. Looked like a little sweetheart though.

Congrats!! How exciting that you were able to see a nice healthy babe in there! YAY! Funny, but not too, that s/he was hiding the other way. We have our u/s next wednesday and I'm hoping we'll get a peek at the gender, too. We have very boy oriented clothes (some bottoms are neutral...). Maybe if you have a boy, and we have a girl, we could SWAP our clothes!! ;)

Congratulations! We had ours today too- and he is very much a boy- boy parts hanging out all over the place. It WAS exciting- wasn't it? Seeing all the bones all strong and healthy...those tiny little hands and feet, and fingers!
Now that we called our family about it being a boy- demands for the name have started. Goodness. If you DO find out- maybe you should keep it a secret! I know I am hormonal, but folks drive me crazy- the day you get married (at my WEDDING) they want to know when you are having a baby, the day you are pregnant they want to know what he is.

Drink a Coke before your next Ultrasound. The little stinker will be awake then! That's what I've done w/ all my sonos!! ;) It works!

marylang -- that's exactly what happened to us last week. healthy baby, everything looked great. but the kid wouldn't give up the goods. and we have boxes and boxes of very girly clothes. so if it's a boy we'll have to do some serious begging, borrowing, and shopping.
we have to have another u/s in 9 weeks because i have a partial placenta previa. so we might find out gender then. but i've kinda gotten used to not finding out, so we'll see.

We had our big U/S yesterday and it was great! Sure looks for all the world like its a girl, no hiding and no boy parts showing, so looks like its pretty certain. She was very active with her hands the whole time, touching her face and head...opening and closing her mouth and everything. Everything looks great, 10 fingers and 10 toes, all that good stuff! :thumb
The weirdest part was seeing all of that going on but not feeling any movement yet, although I think I felt something a few minutes ago!
My DH predicted a girl, but we didn't care too much either way. My mom's happy cause she can make pretty things, she's an awesome seamstress and makes beautiful smocked dresses!
Now my big dilemma...what to knit first for the little tyke-ster-ette?!?!?!?

Congratulations on your healthy baby!! We had our ultrasound yesterday and we're having a healthy baby BOY! :love He was asleep throughout the entire ultrasound but had his legs wide open so we were able to take a peek at his little pee pee :thumb
I tried some of the suggestions to get the baby active...drank oj and ate lots of sweets...but he was knocked out without a care in the world! Hopefully he'll keep up with this sleeping habit after birth...

How exciting for everyone. They become so much more real when you see them moving around on the U/S. I had a really good U/S last week at the perinatologist - he's got the real whiz-bang high resolution machine so we got a good look. Everyone looks really good and healthy and growing well. Fascinating to see the finger and feet bones and the spine and spinal column and brain developing. We got a good look at both babies in shots looking at them from the butt looking towards the head and it looks like I'm getting the variety pack - a boy and a girl!!!! Very excited about that. It was good timing since I went back home for a shower and visit last Thur-Mon, so I had news to share.
Everyone said that they thought I'd be bigger. I feel pretty big, especially since I've been in maternity clothes by necessity since 8 weeks, and that's after I lost 30 lbs before I got PG, so I could wear my old pre-weight loss pants for a while before I had to wear mat. pants. When I got back my boss (who can say anything and I know he doesn't mean to be rude) told me that I'm really putting on weight now and getting my butt back (he thought I lost too much weight before, it wasn't intentional weight loss). The OB is happy with my weight gain and since I'm starting to have blood pressure issues I know she'd tell me if it was too little or too much. Funny how people have such differing perceptions of how PG you should look at a point in time.

We have our appointment for next wednesday right before thanksgiving. I hope baby cooperates and shows us the "goods" so we have something to share with family the day after! Mostly though I hope everything is "right" with baby and that all parts are there and good to go. Oh the nerves the nerves - will the nerves be calm post u/s?
JoyAnne
11-15-2004, 12:20 PM
Well, it calmed my "omg I am havign an US and I will see if everything is okay- as well as if everything is NOT okay" nerves, as everything was fine!
One thing that surprised me, and maybe this was only because I am of "advanced maternal age" being 35, and thus saw a specialist for the 20 week level 2 US, part of it was internal. That freaked me out, probably because I didn't expect it- haven't had anybody in there for 16 weeks or so at my first OB visit. It didn't hurt or anything- just pressure, but it was wierd now that I can feel the baby all the time- intrusive, more so than usual.
Good Luck!! Hope you have great news for the holiday!!

Well, we had our big ultrasound on Monday!
It is another girl! She is big and healthy and was very active. We got a very good shot at her ottom and there was NOTHING there, so the tech was very certain it was a girl. We were a little disapointed at first, but are getting very excited. An interesteing note, the tech said that the more smae sex babies you have the less likely you are to have the next baby be a different sex. It has to do with temp, ph, and timing. Makes since, but I had never thought of it before!
I will post pictures as soon as dh gets them scanned.

Congrats Jessmcg!! How cute and wonderful that you'll have three little girls that will hopefully be very close to eachother. I don't have a sister myself, but I understand that there's nothing like the love and companionship of your sister! Glad to hear that everything looks healthy and happy in there too!
I'm off to my u/s appt this afternoon. Wish me luck! ;)

We had ours today too. :) One healthy baby-- we didn't find out the sex, even though he or she seemed perfectly willing to share. It was at the same place that did our u/s for dd, but this time they went really fast. We got two pictures (the scary head-on skeletor one and a picture of a foot) and that's it-- last time we had 5 or 6. So maybe we won't be sharing pics this time. ;) Although last time, the video didn't work-- maybe this one will. That would be a fair trade-off.
Exceptionally happy to have a healthy baby and to know that all of our birth plans are on-track. :D Woo-hoo!!

Everything went fantastic at today's u/s! It's a definite GIRL!!! :girlpin There was no doubt about it...missing all the boy goods. DH and I were a little surprised b/c we both had feelings that it was a little boy and that ds would have a little bro to team around with. They'll just get to team around together as brother and sister! It will be neat to have one of each gender and we're super happy that everything looks healthy and normal in there. YAY! :love :LOL :thumb My heart is sooo warm!! ;)

Ah ok that makes sense to me as well. A woman at my church told me her DD's doctor (following me still? :LOL) told her that since she'd had three boys her chances of having a girl were only 12%. I thought that was ludicrous because each time roughly your chances are 50/50. I know timing can affect it but otherwise it seemed all things being equal you'd have the same odds each time. But it does makes sense that maybe there's a reason that you keep having a baby of the same sex no matter what. DH and I have joked that since we've already had two girls this one is also a girl since he only makes girls. Maybe the bigger truth is that together we only make girls. We'll know tomorrow!

i think my dh and i only make girls LOL.
we're convinced this is a girl. we decided to have an U/S at 21 weeks because i'm huge, and not feeling this babe hardly at all. there has to be a huge something in there that is growing fast. but, i'm not going to find out what it is.

wasabi and danaalex - All of us seem to only make girls :)
I had also thought that each time it was 50-50, but it makes since that timing and ect make a difference too. I know several families with 4-6 kids of all the same sex (some all girls and some all boys). My dh says that it is genetic becuase my mom had 4 girls (then she had a boy - all it took was for my dad to get a vasectomy :eyesroll )

Well I can make boys. :LOL My first was a boy. But apparently I can't make boys with DH. Timing, Chinese predictors, all that other stuff be damned even in the most optimal boy circumstances we still get girls so I must kill all the boy sperm. :LOL

We had ours today too!!! Baby looked great. They saw all the important parts (brain, heart, kidneys, stomach, bladder, spine, etc). All the measurements were consistent too. At the end, she went down to the bum end & I yelled out "It's a GIRL"!!!!!!! I'm SO excited. I have been feeling girl all along & my dd has been talking about her baby sister since 2 days after conception!!!! We were right. We're THRILLED.

With ds2 I conceived from sex we had 5 days before O. All the predictors said girl. Nope, still had a boy. My mom had 3 boys before me, so maybe it IS genetic. Ds1 is pretty convinced that he will have only brothers, and in fact is quite convinced he is having TWO brothers this time (they seem nice, he has talked to them :D). I always assumed that each time was a 50-50 shot as well, but I guess maybe all the boy hand me downs could come in handy.
Congrats to all those who are have found out. It must be exciting to have a gender to put to that belly :)

I should say btw that we weren't trying for a boy with the boy timing with DD. I actually ovulated early and so it was pure chance really. This time around wsa just my second PP cycle so we weren't really sure if I would o at my regular pre-pg time or later as I did in my first cycle. I did o regularly and it just so happened that was two days after the last time we BDed. My mom actually suggested to me that if we wanted to try again we could have the sperm spun down so there were only boys and I could be artificially inseminated. Um yeah I'll get right on that. :eyesroll

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to say that we had the lovely 3.5 HOUR ultrasound the other day which included waiting for a flipping hour and forty five minutes. Word to the wise - never schedule an ultrasound before a holiday!!!
Okay rant done.
Praise be.
Baby looks healthy, all the limbs and organs. I am breathing just a bit easier. Will be able to catch entire breath once baby is safely born and in arms.
He is a boy. :love

congratulations on the healthy son :). i can't believe you had to wait so long! WOW!!!! i am usually a patient person, but i think 1 hr 45 min would've been pushing my limits LOL.
i remember having to wait with my first DD, we had to get an U/S for dating purposes and my bladder wasn't full yet. so i had to wait for 45 min for that, and man was that hard!!!!! LOL.
congrats again!!!

My dh and I both predicted it was another boy, but she turned out to be a GIRL! :love I do remember feeling early on that it might be a girl...should have listened to myself then! Funny!
With our first, I felt as though it was a boy and wasn't surprised when the u/s tech confirmed that it was in fact a boy.
The cool thing for us to think about is that the baby is a boy or a girl from the moment of conception, not from whenever we find out it's sex. :) I find it interesting to see how my and my dh's thoughts convinced us that it was a boy rather than a girl... :D

ok, for all of you that had the BIG u/s how long did it take and what all did they do? i had mine today, and i waited in the OBs office for 1hr and 15 min, i was just about to leave when she called my name. then i sat in the room for 15 more min, again i was getting up to leave when she walked in. we chatted for about 2 min, i sat on the table, she put the vhs tape in, turned the machine on, did the gel thing, looked at the baby for about 3-5 min MAX ( measured the head, the abd, and the femur) then we were done. that was it.
i had expected the BIG u/s, to be where they look at everything to make sure all is ok................ i know now that there is only one baby, but i still don't know if there is a growth of some kind in there or not. i'm measuring 26 or 27 weeks and the baby is measuring EXACTLY 21 weeks and is under 500 g, somewhere in the 400s but i forget. i was even more disappointed with this experience than the one she did before. i am very very happy to be leaving her practice, and heading up north.
the ONLY reason i decided to have this u/s was to get some peace of mind, and i got none. in fact i was more upset when i left than when i got there. i cried the whole way home, and my DH is out of town so i can't even tell him to come home to be with me.
oh well....................................

:dropjaw HOLY MOLEY mama! That is the biggest CROCK I've ever heard of. That OB should NOT NOT NOT be doing u/s. Geez....
Our ultrasound (NOT a level 2, just a standard anatomy scan) took about 30-40 min from start to finish. We were sent to an outpatient facility, which has high-tech equipment (I was impressed, LOL). The technician who did it was a certified u/s tech & a radiologist reviewed the results before we could leave. If they could not find ANYTHING or ANYTHING looked off, they would have sent us for a Level 2 with a Perinatologist.
During the u/s, she:
1. scanned uterus from all angles, just go get basic look.
2. scanned placenta & cervix
3. Baby - looked at bladder, kidneys, spine (both neck to pelvis & a view through the vertebra to make sure they were shaped properly), stomach, insertation point of umbilical cord, nose, mouth (looking for cleft lip), brain, arms, hands, legs, feet, gender
4. Measured - brain (around head & between ventricals), belly, long bones, etc
5. Umbilical cord - checked for insertion & 3 vessels
6. Heart - focused in on heart, checked for chambers, arteries, etc. Got beats/minute
7. assessed amt of amniotic fluid
I can't think of anything else. I can say, with my dd #1, my OB did the scan herself. I was NOT satisfied w/that & was referred out (you know my job history & why that didn't fly, LOL). I don't think OBs should be doing these!!!
GRRRRRR
HUGS mama! I'm sorry!!!!! At least the baby is measuring on target, that should make you feel better!!

Wow Dana that sounds a bit off. With my first and second a tech did the u/s. For this one the tech scanned for about a 1/2 hour. Than the doc came in and was unhappy with her work (she WAS really sucky) and did the scan over. Maybe you can call your doc and discuss your concerns? ((((hug))))

we are moving in 9 days so i am just going to wait till we get up north to make my decision. i KNEW i shouldn't have let her scan me again, but i thought well, maybe she'll do better this time. the first time she did a vag at 14 weeks and i measuring 20 weeks and the baby is at the top of my uterus. first she told me i miscarried at 5 weeks, then she said (after i reminded her how far along i was and that we heard the heartbeat at 12 weeks, and that i measuring 6 weeks ahead, not behind) maybe it was my cervix, but she wasn't sure and was kinda asking.
so, i had originally decided against having her do another, but my DH kinda talked me into it. so, i went. and man was i pissed that i went. so, we'll see. i'm going to call some people in the columbia, MD area this week and next and ask them what they think i should do ( in terms of getting another U/S or not) if most of them say no, then i won't, if they say yes, i probably will.

We have our u/s next Tuesday. I can't decide if I want to find out or not, usually not, but I falter. DH does, so he won't be any help. I'm trying to get him to promise me that no matter what i say when we are there I really don't want to know. But he won't because he wants to know.
danaalex, sorry your's was so yucky.
THat's interesting about after having just one gender your chance of a different gender goes down. A lady at church just had her 5th boy, #'s 3 &4 being twins. She so wanted a boy and was really sad when she found out it was a boy.

Dana, I'm glad you'll be going elsewhere-- sounds like a waste of time with your current doc!
As for us, we had the "big" u/s on Monday-- I really wanted to find out the gender to get the name settled! I had a doubtful feeling that the tech could tell, and sure enough . . .the baby had its legs tightly closed and a hand covering all important parts. The tech told us there were three lines that could be girl . . .or butt!
So, we're picking a boy's name but assuming it's a girl. My DH has been right for the last 6 PG (of people we know) and he thinks girl.
I must admit-- it is kind of fun not to know! I never would've believed that, but it's true!
