Hey, I'm hypothyroid too! I had my blood tested at 4w, again at 7w, and last week at 10w (by my mw). I was normal at 4 w, but by 7w my TSH was 10 which I figured since I was keeping the house at 78 degrees when I normally like it at 70. My endo upped my dose by 25mg, and my TSH from last week is down to 3 and I feel "normal" too. I wonder if I'll have to up the dose again. I get my blood tested again in a week, then again a month later when I see my endo again. I'm beginning to feel like a pin cushion.
There was a fantastic article about managing synthroid during pregnancy in a July 2004 issue of The New England Journal of Medicine. The results from the study concluded that most women will need to increase their dose by 30-50% during pregnancy, and usually the first dose increase needs to happen before 10 weeks. The study also showed that by week 20, the thyroid levels stop changing so a blood test once a trimester after then is sufficient. Also, these women resumed their old doses after pregnancy and by 6 weeks post partum they were back to their pre-pregnancy TSH levels.

Jennie-
That's why I'm a little nervous. My endocrinologist is at the Cleveland Clinic and he's one of the top thyroid docs in the world so he is UNBELIEVABLY busy! He told me that when I found out I was pregnant to get my blood tested before making an appt. with him. So I did that and was told that he is incredibly busy- takes months to see him- so that he would call me back with the results and either up my dosage over the phone (if needed) or tell me I need to come in.
He was supposed to call yesterday morning and didn't. I'm going to call this morning. I have been pretty cold the last couple of weeks- more so than normal. When I called the doc last friday, the nurse told me that some of my numbers were a little out of range but she didn't specify which ones (that's when she told me to doc would call first thing Monday morning).
Is this a dangerous thing if my dosage needs to be upped but hasn't yet? I mean dangerous to the baby?
I currently take 100 mcg. I really hope that if it goes up, it will go back to normal after birth.
I'm due around 6/17 so that would make me 9 or 10 weeks. Now I just have to not freak out until I talk to my doc!

I talked to my doc this morning and he said I am "disgusting normal"! I told him that I was nervous because the nurse told me some of my numbers were a little out of range. He asked when I had my blood drawn, when I'd eaten last etc. Once he found out that I had eaten about 1.5-2 hours earlier, he said it made sense- the numbers that were a little out of range (like insulin etc.) were supposed to be a little higher since I wasn't fasting.
He said the only other number that was a little out of range were my kidneys- he said it is "disgustingly healthy" lol and a little high even.
He's such a great guy. He told me that I'd done my homework and was doing a great job and to keep it up. No adjustments to my meds needed right now and that I need to get tested again in 2-3 months. What a relief!
To be honest, I'd expected my dosage to need to be upped (I'm sure it will need to be next time I get tested)- I'm much more worried about getting gestational diabetes again!

Sorry I didn't see your earlier post. That's great news! My endo has 5 patients right now who've needed no dosage increase during pregnancy - maybe you'll be as lucky as them.
Just keep eating lots of protein to help keep the GD away!

Isn't that funny? That's ALL I have been craving is protein. I couldn't stand meat while pregnant with DS, especially chicken!
Give me all the red meat you can- roasts, hamburgers, steaks, anything!
I wonder why some need to be upped- what's the difference? It's so strange to me- I know enough about it to get by, but the whole thyroid, endocrine system thing is just foreign to me, you know?
