I am so incredibly dizzy! I can barely even walk without assistance. I am dizzy sitting up and the only time I'm not dizzy is when I'm laying perfectly still.

And it isn't on and off, it's constant and I've been this way since Friday afternoon.

What could this be?

some women seem to get dizzy in the first trimester...about the causes of that i dont' know...i woudl also think it could be yourblood preassure or blood sugar.

honestly i woudln't worry aobut it..seems like ihear LOTS of sotries from mamas who are dizzy through the first trimester.. hope you get to feelin better soon :)

I would watch your sugar level. I was extremely dizzy during my first two preg and ended up being diagnosed with hypoglycemia. Monitoring my bloodsugar enabled me to bypass all the dizzy spells during preg#3. Good luck....I'm sure it will pass. Until then stay hydrated, eat good and rest! You deserve it Mama!

Are you lightheaded, or are you experiencing "the room is spinning" vertigo?
If you're really spinning dizzy, it might not have anything to do with the pregnancy and could be something like vestibulitis - an inner ear problem. I don't know, but if it were me I would probably call a doctor, especially since you are having trouble functioning.
This sounds awful, I hope you're better soon!

I get very dizzy during pregancy as well. Not as bad as it seems for you right now but pretty dizzy.

If it is pregnancy related its caused by your body doubling its blood volume for the baby. I have to be carefull not to get up too fast or to even turn around or turn my head too quickly. It should pass in a few weeks or a month or so.

Hope you are feeling better today. :)

... during my first pregnancy. It's not uncommon. I got it during sleep, so it would wake me up as I had the sensation of falling out of bed. Scared the hell out of my DH!

However, since you say it's constant and you sound like you aren't functioning very well, it might be worth a call or visit to your OB/Midwife.

Good luck and I hope you feel better!!

My doctor is a useless tit. He did no tests, didn't even check my blood pressure! I need to find a midwife so bad!! All he did was tell me to talk to my employer about disability. Ugh.

Or maybe just a better doctor, if you can't find a MW? Was it you who posted that the doctor had said morning sickness only starts in the morning and gets better as the day goes on? Maybe it was Max's Mami. How frustrating for you!!!

I'm getting used to the dizziness, it's not going away though. My doctor told me when I went to see him while TTC that charting was useless and didn't work. :irked:

He's an idiot. But now that I have a midwife it's great. :D

I've been really dizzy too. Whenever I stand up from sitting or laying down I have to hold onto something until I stabalize. I have heard it is normal in the first trimester but I can't think of the mechanics of it. Blood volume increasing would decrease dizziness. The uterus isn't big enough at our gestation to be demanding too much blood volume yet. Maybe it is the progesterone, it relaxes smooth muscle, maybe it relaxes the blood vessels too. I know that when you are taking progesterone as a medication one of the side effects is dizziness.

I am having the same problem, getting dizzy when I stand or sit up too quickly, but not all of the time. I believe mine is caused from lower than normal iron levels in my blood. I have always been borderline anemic.

I've had the same problem but not to the degree you describe. My theory is the progesterone one. I noticed it as soon as I concieved. Erika, did you get a chance to ask your midwife about it?
