Hello, I 'voted', hoping to have a midwife waterbirth in the hospital....or at least spend lots of time in the water and then give birth. This will be baby #1. I'm just taking it one day at a time and haven't thought of the delivery quite yet.

This is baby #4. Will be my third homebirth. Planned unassisted.

edited to add: planning on another waterbirth too! (I have had two and it is wonderful!)

This will be my second child and I'm planning a homebirth with a midwife (hopefully a waterbirth).

Baby # 2, homebirth with midwife.

What I really want is to have a homebirth with a midwife. I'm not sure if I am going to be able to get them. My hubby wasn't too thrilled about it at first, but now he gave me a stipulation that insurance has to pay for it. We will see.

So I can't really vote in the poll since it is still up in the air of where I am having my baby.

I voted for unassisted. It would be our 3rd if we go through with it. I'm thinking about a waterbirth, though, and dh wants a m/w here if I decide to go that direction. It's all still a bit up in the air!

Well, as I am a homebirth midwife assistant, I will vote for that option. It will actually be my 1st at home, all my other 4 were in hospitals. We actually use a birth center, that space is another option, but this time, I am looking forward to my own space and getting some rest afterward-something nearly impossible in the hospitals around here!

I chose other. I think my main goal is to freebirth. I am hoping for a UC, DH is hoping for a HB w/ a mw.

eta- I will be a VBAC and 17 months post c/s when this baby is born.

Going to be OB at the hospital. Not *my* ideal, but with two, no other options where I live. At least my OB has a low c-section rate and I do like him.

This is #2 for me and I am planning an assisted home VBAC this time.

I'm hoping to have a VBAC. Hospital with doc is pretty much my only choice. There are no RMW where we will be living and DH would never live through (his nerves would kill him) a homebirth after the complications (oligohydramnios) with baby #1. All that really matters to me is that I have a little tiny one to hold after it is all done.

Well, I'm almost embarrassed to post this at MDC, but this will probably be my 4th and final c-section (unless I go into labor at home before my date which in that case I would stay home and head to the hospital at the last posible minute.) All three previous births were by c/s and for very good reasons, (mild spina bifida to start and add in complications with EVERY pregnancy) and I don't know how comfortable I am with the idea of VBA3C, so unless I find a midwife that is willing to take the risk. I'm just happy that my doc talked me out of the customary tubal after 3c/s. I have always dreamed of a homebirth...or just a vaginal birth really, but that's just not what has worked out for me.

Not feeling very crunchy at the moment,
Becki

I voted midwife at BC. I would love to go the HB route but DH won't go for it since ins. will pay for the BC.

I voted for MW at the hospital since that is what my insurance allows. If I go with a MW rather than an OB I have the option to water birth so that is what I'm aiming for!

Well, I had my first appt today, and we know that this one will be c-section #3!! :innocent

I really don't know yet. We'll be moving shortly, and I haven't been able find find out what all of our options will be yet.

I'd rather have a midwife at either a birthing center or at home. I'm no fan of hopsital births, but it's not out of the question.

Doctor at hospital since our insurance doesn't even have a listing for "midwife" or "birthing center" or anything close on it's database...

I voted hospital birth. Since the hospital my DH works at is self insured, everything done at the hospital is, "free." So, economically speaking it makes sense for me to have my baby there. A birthing center would have been nice, but the one here closed, b/c the hospital got ticked off that it took away all of their business.

I voted mw in hospital. Unfortunately no birth centers here in GA, and my husband is too scared to do HB b/c I hemorraged with DS#1.

I voted for homebirth with a midwife. This is baby #2. We had an unexpected "unassisted" birth with dd. She came out faster than the midwife drove :thumb . I am hoping for a waterbirth too. The idea of unassisted birht is very intriguing to me but I think it is too much for dh at the moment.

this is our 1st child.

i voted homebirth with midwife because that's the choice that most closely matched. actually, i think we will be doing a homebirth with a nurse and doctor.

this is our second - will be a mw at the hospital "birthing inn" (very similar to the center nearby I toured) - first was at a different hospital with mw.

We're delivering at a birth center at a hospital w/midwives, let's go waterbirth! I wanted a homebirth, but insurance won't cover it, so we'll be saving up for the next one after this birth. 1st birth was highly medical in a hospital w/medwives.

I am may be trying for a VBAC this time at a local birthing center. Had my first at a birthing center in 2003.

Voted other, as it is still in the works. Prefer a home waterbirth with a midwife, but we will see how things go. Having a problem getting a midwife withing labor distance! :)

I voted M/W in hospital. It's what we did with DS (our only, right now). It was a long, arduous process, and ended in c/s. I may go all the way to planned c/s if I have the same late-term complications I had last time.

My uterus is heart shaped, but it's not bad enough to find it on the 20-week u/s they did (I'll ask about it this time, though). But, by the end, they were asking if I was bicornic. Anyway, bad back labor. DS and I didn't respond well to any drugs. My water was broken for 1.5 days before they intervened at all, but once they do, you're stuck on your back with an IV, so no more yoga, shower, etc. It was icky. It will be easier emotionally to take control of the situation, I think.

But, nothing is decided yet. The m/w who managed my c/s told me everything is still ok for VBAC, and my m/w's do them, so we'll see.

God willing, this will be baby #3 for me. My first was hospital OB/Gyn delivered, my second was midwife-assisted homebirth (wanted it to be waterbirth but my labor completely stopped in the tub). Plan this time, if all goes well, is to have another homebirth, but my wonderful midwife is spending the year in Africa, so I have to find a new one. Very traumatic...
In the process of interviewing now.

#2 girl - unassisted, car
#3 girl - unassisted, kitchen
#4 girl - unassisted, bed
#5 - unassisted, location TBA

We're planning a home waterbirth with a midwife. We had one with #3 and it was wonderful! The 1st 2 were born in the hospital w/o meds - why bother going and being uncomfortable and harrassed if I'm not going to take the meds anyway? :)

Maya,
At what point in labor did you get into the tub for your waterbirth?

I've had 2 hospital births so far, and this is what we're going for this time. So far, my experience has been good, with the nurses willing to accomodate. I know it's strange at MDC to go the hospital route but I had to giggle when I saw that the option was in italics on the graph. I feel a little left of center IRL so it's always funny to come here and be mainstream girl.

I think the italics show that is how you voted on the poll. :)
