Private Messages

My PM notice says I have 0 unread messages and 8 total messages, but I always delete my messages after reading them and I don't recall ever getting 8 PMs. How can I access and read these PMs? It always says my folder is empty and I have nothing in my inbox (or something like that) when I try.
