View Full Version : Dallas area pediatrician recommendations??

I lurk here often, but don't post much. But I'm needing some help.
My ped stinks. I just found out she's now charging for after hours calls, and on top of that, she was very unprofessional this past week, when my dd was sick. My 3 yr old dd wasn't cooperating with what she wanted her to do, so she decided to scare her, and told her she was going to make her go to the hospital, which I think is totally uncalled for.
It's sad, since she was very AP friendly, supportive of ex bfing and fb'ing. But I just don't want to tolerate that kind of stuff. And as soon as I find someone new, I'm writing a letter to her.
This is so annoying, she's the second ped we've had. The first, was the only local peds group in my town, and I was griped at, at every well baby visit from 6 months on to wean my child from the breast (and then the ped wondered to me why more women weren't nursing in her practice, lol, what a nut).
So I'm needing someone supportive of extended bfing, and family bedding and delay vaxing, as I just can't take the battles.
I live way out in Greenville, so I'm hoping I can find one in the Rockwall/Mesquite/Garland area, but just about anything will do as I'm desperate.
Feel free to email me with recommendations: stephanie@snugglebees.com
Thanks!!

I love ours - Dr. Ron Blair at Medical City. I know that's a little further in than you wanted, but he's great.

I'll check and see if he's on our insurance. My dr is at Medical City, so it's not that bad. Thanks!

Snugglebee, take a look at our local health care practitioner recommendations page (http://boards.nataly.org/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?;act=SF;f=11). Be sure to follow the link in the very first post to the archives. There aren't many comments for practitioners out your direction, but you may still find a number of comments that are helpful.
Best of luck!

Yeah, I posted there too, lol, and I checked the archive. I think there was only two dr's mentioned and one is not taking new patient's and one is not on our insurance.

Hmmm ... We should have info on more than just two docs. It's hard to remember which boards have listed what docs and what we've just talked about at gatherings. I will try to remind everyone to post their recommendations and not just talk about them!

I haven't found Dr. Blair to be particularly supportive of extended breastfeeding or cosleeping. The literature he has given us seems to go against both. If you don't vax, he will still see your baby, but he is definitely provaccine.
Who is the doc you are leaving? If you don't want to give the name, perhaps just the initials? (I'm just worried it's the same doc I have an appointment with next month.) She's a pediatrician though, right? Well, good luck!

Jenny Clifford. She is very supportive of extended bfing, she does it herself, and she supports co sleeping too. However, she's very provaccine, and she made a little uproar when I refused the prevnar vaccine one day, but that might have been because she had a med student in "observing". She was very rude to me about it, but I figured I could ignore those kinds of things. But I just can't overlook the scaring a 3 yr old because she won't cooperate in an exam.
She did have another dr in her practice who left to move up to North Dallas. We saw him once, and I told him about extended bfing, and he wasn't exactly "supportive" but he said if you like it, then do it (but that was before he had his own baby, and now he does, so his views might have changed). And he seemed very nice and gentle. I might just go find him again, if I can remember his name, lol.
SnuggleBee,
We love our pediatrician, Pilar Bescos. She is pro extended breastfeeding, pro midwives, and never once questioned our decision not to immunize our now 4 and 1/2 year old.
She would NEVER scare a child by threatening hospital. How helpful can THAT be?
Dr. Bescos is far from you, though, in North Dallas on 75 and Forest Lane. But, she is worth the drive. I made a mistake and took my baby once to a doctor near my house because it was so much closer. That Dr. ended up reporting me to CPS because I refused to take my newborn baby's clothes off. I refused because the place was cold and smelly and because the rude nurse was barking orders to me and not explaining why I had to disrobe my one month old baby. Because I refused, the Dr. suspected that I was hiding something. (Or more likely, he was just being an AW).

Thanks, I'll have to see if she's on our insurance. Definitely not too far, I go to Medical City for my ob/gyn.

I grew up in Greenville. Lived there from '79-'94. My mom and little sis still live there. I plan on visiting next month.
Your website is adorable. I've never seen mermaid or fairy dolls. And VERY reasonable for waldorf dolls.
Anyway, I hope you find a ped.
My sister gave birth to her 1st child in Greenville by the Dr. who delivered her 21 years earlier LOL. The actual birth wasn't bad, but the labor was horrible. She did it natural, but I wouldn't have blamed her if she did get an epidural. The nurse wouldn't let her get up at all unless she had to pee.
There's bound to be one close to you. If I remember correctly, there's a midwife around the area (she was in the phonebook a few years back) who may know of someone. Or you could look on some homeschooling lists (yahoogroups, etc) for the area and see what they suggest. I find that a lot of HS'ers are anti/selective vax, EB, etc. Since I HS, that's how I found my Dr. in Austin. She's a Family Practitoner and I couldn't be happier.
Good luck!
