Had an ultrasound today at 10 weeks. My OB said that the intestines, which go outside of the body then go back in, are a little more protruding than normal. She was not overly concerned, but wants to do another ultrasound in 4 weeks to make sure that it has corrected itself. She said it will most likely be fine by 12 weeks. Has anyone heard of this regarding intestines?

Also, she told me today that they do water births at the hospital. I do have a Midwife here, who I have not met with yet this pregnancy. DH surprised me today saying he was not exactly enamored with the MW. I know he is comparing her to our other MW in MI. I like my OB quite a bit. I am considering asking my OB a bunch of questions at my next ultrasound. I am very nervous about the birth ending up too invasive. Not sure exactly what to ask though.

Any guidance here?

No, sorry I can't help there. Perhaps give a call the MW/OB and see what the condition is called then you can look it up

Gastroschisis is when the intestines form outside and don't go back in. ALL babies form their intestines outside the body near the umbilical cord then they go back in by a certain number of weeks.

There is also Omphalocele which is when the bowel/liver forms and remains outside the body.

It can be a common finding it at an early ultrasound, and usually corrected at a later U/S.

I just wanted to add that this can usually be corrected after birth if it doesn't correct by then. At least that is what my pg book says.
