Well, I told my parents yesterday. They tried their best not to sound horrified, but the looks on thier faces suggested thoughts such as, "She's WHAT? Another baby? Has she lost her mind?" And then when I mentioned homebirth my mom, in a disgusted tone, said, "You're really going to have a homebirth???" I guess I have some educating to do!!! After a while she said, "Well, I suspected this sooner or later since you haven't had a homebirth yet." As if I'm having another child just to have a homebirth. :angry :eyesroll My Dad is actually excited and loved the "Papa's Top Ten" t-shirt we made him (with his 9 grandkids names + coming in Sept. 05). He's excited to wear it to my son's birthday party tomorrow, while my kids are wearing their big sibling Sept 05 t-shirts! Now to see how shocked the rest of my family is!!!

Anyone else had interesting / unexpected / horrifying / etc. reactions from family and friends?

Congratulations! I always hated having to "inform" my family because they've never been truly happy for me.

congrats.

even with the mixed reaction, i don't think it was a mistake to tell. i waited too long with the fourth for fear of judgment and hurt my amazing grandma's feelings when she didn't find out until 16 weeks and my BIL (who was thinking about moving across country to live with us) had to know and then told his family when we asked for privacy (MIL then told EVERYONE). my sister was hurt too that we waited a couple weeks to tell her. (actually she saw my post on MDC and called me angry)

i'm happy for you, and they'll eventually be either or they'll figure out it isn't worth arguing about...you can't send the kid back, right?

happy gestating and homebirthing!

I think my parents are going to be horrified as they think we are broke incompetent children. :angry Do parents ever stop thinking of you as children? Do we ever stop acting like children?

Do parents ever stop thinking of you as children? Do we ever stop acting like children?

I'll let you know if it ever happens to me! :love

Mom2threenurslings - I feel for you, being right there with announcing I'm pregnant with #4! My parents were thrilled, actually (the more children in the family, the better, as far as they were concerned), but when dh told his parents, they were less than thrilled (sigh).

I'm probably going to be spending the next 3 months getting up the courage to make the general announcement, once the third trimester is passed...not looking forward to that, I'm afraid.

So sad, isn't it? Even if it isn't what people would want for themselves, I don't think they shoudl act horrified at our choices. I would never dream of acting horrified if someone told me they were having an only child...(sigh, again)

Everyone was excited for us. My dad is a little concerned, because he doesn't know how he's going to share his time between a new baby and ds. He's so close to ds I think he's really worried :love He didn't really say a whole lot to me, but talked to my sister about how hard it will be for him. Can I say how much I love my dad?
